Has anyone been to see the Dad's Army movie? I just love the TV shows, but have seen mixed reviews regarding the film. Is it rather a short film, or has my cinema misprinted the length of the showing (60 minutes)?

I'm going on Saturday, think it's 100 minutes. I used to think the tv series very UN funny but as I've got older I like it more. OH wants to go....

Just checked another site, chelseababy, and you're right, it is 100 minutes.smile Think we may go tomorrow night.

Wouldn't go if you paid me grin

Critics don't like it which probably means the public will.

No we won't be going I like the original cast too much I think it might spoil it for me.

Saw it at the weekend and really enjoyed it. The cast were terrific and it was a tribute in a way to the original cast and series. Bill Nighy was terrific as was Toby Jones. The women such as Mrs Mainwaring and Pike's Mother have a more prominent role, and I really enjoyed it. It is not a poor copy of the series, more an affectionate tribute.

We are going next week, hopefully. I've been looking forward to it. I know the critics have said its a pale imitation of the tv series, but anything with such a good cast can't be all bad (can it?). It'll be strange to see Mrs Mainwaring - she was only ever referred to in the original.

We're really looking forward to seeing this. I like the comment that its an affectionate tribute- very appropriate. It couldn't be anything else.

We are big fans of the TV series but not going to see this film. I'm all Dads Army'd out after how many episodes were on over Xmas and DH wants to watch them all. I cannot bear Catherine ZJ!

I really like Bill Nighy and apparently the actor (his name escapes me) who plays Private Godfrey has him to a 'T'!
Looking forward to seeing the film and am looking forward to seeing the choice of actress for Captain Mainwairing's wife (the dreaded 'Elizabeth')!

Michael Gambon plays Godfrey and he is very good; his sisters are also major characters in the film where they are only referred to in the series. Also, look out for Ian Lavender.........

We went to see this today. It was a pale imitation of the tv series, and the plot was a bit thin, but the cast as good, and it was fun! Nice to see the original vicar, and Ian Lavender. The lady who played Mainwaring's wife brought me up short - she was the spitting image of the RSM we had when I did my Army training! God forbid that there could be two of them!! shock

We'd really enjoyed it, and although it can't be compared to the original shows, we thought it was funny.
Thought Toby Jones's voice was remarkably like that of Captain Mainwaring. Wasn't too impressed by the actor who played Pike, though, and he was far too 'amorous', too! Godfrey - brilliant! smile

We enjoyed it. A gang of us dressed up in period costume, uniforms etc. I was in a tweed suit, little hat, clumpy shoes, gas mask bag etc. Everyone else there seemed to enjoy seeing us go in. We also enjoyed the scenery of East Yorkshire, where it was filmed.

DD has been to see it and was unimpressed.
