On BBC 2 tonight series 3 of Line of Duty returns. It has 5 stars in my newspaper.

I have just watched the whole of series 2 on BBC IPlayer, even though I had seen it before it really was gripping and to be honest I had forgotten most of the twists and turns.

Enjoy smile

Thanks wilma. I haven't seen Series 1 to make the link between Tommy, "The Caddy" and Dot, so that's helpful.

I agree about Denton and her capacity for violence. It doesn't make her guilty, though, necessarily. I'd like to have seen more of the trial, and the basis on which she was found guilty; to me, the evidence was mainly circumstantial. Unless I've missed something (probably)grin.

I have just watched this Catch Up on iPlayer www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p03lgtd7/line-of-duty-the-story-so-far
having not seen the first two series and all is now as clear as mud!

I am enjoying series 3 nonetheless.

I am glad it wasn't just us * Leonora*! My husband and I were happily watching and then suddenly you get a woman prisoner that you have never seen before and a court case . My husband and I looked at each other, both wondering if we were losing our faculties! I think we will have to give the rest a miss as we certainly haven't 11hours to spare to suddenly watch what we have missed, to work out what was happening.
We should have been told that series 3 was episode 12 - it most certainly wasn't episode 1!

Leticia Sat 02-Apr-16 13:50:24

We also realised that the three who witnessed the shooting at the start of so called episode 1 had a whole back history - that should have been made clear.

Now that the 3rd series has started, I don't think the 'Story so far' video on iPlayer is very helpful. We watched it to remind us what had happened before, but it's not much help to anyone who didn't watch the previous series. You could get away without watching the 1st series, but I would struggle if I hadn't watched the 2nd series.

Wikipedia is pretty accurate, but it's lacking in detail, so shout out if you have questions! grin

gettingonabit IIRC Denton killed the police officer by pinning him to a wall in the car park with her car. That's a pretty serious capacity for violence! winkgrin I kept thinking she was an innocent set up to carry the can, but I reached a point where I accepted she was guilty.

WilmaKnickersfit Sun 03-Apr-16 02:21:18

gettingonabit my memory is rubbish! confused I just remembered she didn't kill him, just pinned him with the car and got a confession from him because he thought he was dying. He later gave evidence and was sentenced to life. Sorry about that! confused

wilma I've been reading Wiki and still hope that Denton is, if not quite squeaky clean, not quite quilty enough for a conspiracy to murder sentence to stick either. If that makes sense (probably not)grin.

Whilst she was implicit in the original ambush and accepted the money, I do not think she intended for the botched operation to end in the death of her colleagues, all of whom were bent. Dot Cottan is the real villain of the piece.

Lindsay is a complex character who is capable of violence (we've seen that) when pushed. However she's also capable of empathy. She took the money to help pay her dying mother's care fees, she tried to protect Carly from being pimped by Dryden and others, and she was let down badly by Dryden.

I think her conviction will be quashed, either on the grounds of insufficient evidence to convict or something to do with breach of procedure. I'm still flying the flag for her (a bit).

I am waiting for Amazon to deliver series 1 and after I watch that will decide if I need to buy series 2. I did think that series 3 was stand alone- no such luck. Series 1 was shown in 2014- I cannot remember what was shown last week never mind 2 years ago.

tanith Sun 03-Apr-16 13:58:38

Charleygirl series 2 you can watch for free on iplayer.. it does explain a lot.

WilmaKnickersfit Sun 03-Apr-16 22:55:33

gettingonabit I think Denton will win her appeal. What she does then will probably be another shock for us! I almost hope she wreaks havoc! grin

Looks like Danny was a red herring and the Gates/Denton of this series is Hari. Can't wait to see what Dot gets up to this time.

gettingonabit Thu 07-Apr-16 22:01:29

Yessss!!

whitewave Thu 07-Apr-16 22:07:27

Oh Peaky Blinders is coming back - yippee!

Ana Thu 07-Apr-16 22:18:27

Well, that was an action-packed episode. I had thought the intrigue would have lasted a bit longer, but they're all lining up to confess!

Glad Lindsay's free, Dot's not quite so happy now, is he?

Leticia Thu 07-Apr-16 22:37:06

I persevered and thought it really good. I don't think it really matters that I haven't a clue who Tommy Hunter and Lindsay Denton are - or any of Doc's back history.

WilmaKnickersfit Fri 08-Apr-16 00:04:04

Okay now she's out, I think it's Dot who should be worried. She's going to be after him for leaving her to carry the can.

This is what I don't understand about tonight's episode. Why did nobody wonder why Dot headed for the industrial estate and not to Hari's house like everyone else? I can imagine that it might come out later that Dot didn't contact Kate as he said he was going to do as he went out of the office, and that in fact it was Kate who contacted him only to be told to stay away. But why did nobody ask Dot what he was doing in the wrong place - which of course turned out to be the right place? What am I missing? confused

gettingonabit Fri 08-Apr-16 10:09:19

wilma I don't get that bit either. Dot went on his own, unarmed, to meet a man who was considered dangerous, against protocol.

He then comes back to a hero's welcome. How?confused

Ana Fri 08-Apr-16 10:14:36

And how did Dot get handcuffed? That bit all happened so quick - did he do it himself? confused

merlotgran Fri 08-Apr-16 10:18:46

He did it himself, Ana. His contortions made it look. like he was having some kind of fit. grin

Minder Fri 08-Apr-16 10:20:35

I've watched all the series and really enjoy it grin

Ana Fri 08-Apr-16 10:24:16

Thanks merlot - yes like Houdini in reverse! grin

PRINTMISS Fri 08-Apr-16 11:27:32

I am enjoying this, I do think Dot is devious, if not guilty, and I believe he received a phone call which led him to the warehouse. I a beginning to think that the list of names he destroyed were those of the young men in the photograph, but why he destroyed it I do not know. I am probably making up another story there. Still good viewing - the other half has no idea what is going on, he does have difficulty hearing, and the sub-titles are too fast for him. This is the one programme I insist on watching even though he does not enjoy it.

gettingonabit Fri 08-Apr-16 14:59:51

I'm guessing the names on the list were those of bent/paedo coppers.

I thought the scene of Dot hancuffing himself was funny; did he hurt himself deliberately with the cuffs?

BarbaraAbbs Fri 08-Apr-16 15:57:24

Only just picked up on this thread having had coffee this a.m with two friends and we spent whole time trying to work out what was happening. None of us could remember details of Series 2!

Knowledgeable friend says the court case couldn't be an appeal because you don't have juries in appeals. Appeals are heard before three judges. I can neither confirm nor refute this!

But thanks for all the info about the back stories....

Ana Fri 08-Apr-16 16:32:59

It was a re-trial, BarbaraAbbs, and her conviction for conspiracy to murder was overturned.

Minder Fri 08-Apr-16 20:30:15

I think Dot is too PRINTMISS
