Best Disney films to watch with a 4 year old?

My granddaughter and I have started to have a regular movie gettogether and I was wondering what films other gransnetters would recommend? She loved Frozen (there's a surprise!) but I'm not particularly keen on some of the other more recent Disney films which seem to me more tailored to adults rather than kids. We've recently watched the Aristocats and the Jungle Book which we both enjoyed.

This could still be going when the granddaughter is 24.
😂

I want to go to see The Magic Faraway Tree but no-one will take me 🙁

The 2016 film Moana is simply wonderful, vivid and a girl who saves her tribe (tho enjoyable to all) MY DGD was addicted to it aged 4 to 6. So was I.

Cossy

Tangled, UP, Jungle Book and Matilda for a real life one!

I think the four year old will be 13 or 14 now. 😀

Yogi Bear. (The film, not the cartoon.) It's funny for children and also for adults.

Recently the whole family watched the movie Albert: Up, Up And Away! - I strongly advise to view. You can even view online, for example on viooz.one/ - there are a lot of movies in great quality). Albert: Up, Up And Away! Is an animated adventure based on the book by beloved Danish children's writer, Ole Lund Kirkegaard. Full of action and laughs, Albert also teaches children an important lesson on the value of friendship as young Albert goes on an epic quest to become a balloon captain.

What age is your granddaughter as some Disney stories can be a bit dark to start with (Bambi and The Good Dinosaur might have crying her eyes out and you saying "it'll be ok on repeat for the first 20 minutes). UP will have her asking why you have wet eyes but is a really lovely film and you can look online about the real UP house (Google Edith Macefield, Up house).

Tinkerbell films (Neverbeast one might upset her though).

Toy story series and Finding Nemo (with perhaps a trip to the cinema to see the new film Finding Dory).

Minions films (Despicable Me) are funny

If she's into Barbie there are literally loads of those (box sets are best as world out about £2 a DVD).

Descendants (if she likes musicals and singing / dancing).

Brave (I'm Scottish so had to include that one lol!).

Take her to asda or Tesco as they normally have loads of kids DVDs and she can pick out ones she likes the look of. Older Films like Bolt (also really good and about a dog that thinks it's a superhero) are normally about £5 or so.

Waveney, the c-beebies version of Peter Pan is fantastic - not sure who loves it more, my DGS or me!

Badenkate Fri 17-Jun-16 15:08:04

My children liked Winnie the Pooh films and my grandchildren liked Finding Nemo so much my son threatened us if we so much as mentioned fish

Waveney Fri 17-Jun-16 14:55:40

Pocahontas is good - we watched it repeatedly last summer. My grandson's favourite is a c-beebies version of Peter Pan ( you can probably get it on the I -player). It's his comfort programme when he is tired! I know it off by heart?

My 2year-old twin GC, boy and girl, love "The Aristocrats", as do I.

My little granddaughters (4 and 6) like Tangled and Brave. (Frozen is, of course, their favourite!) The Little Mermaid is a classic and The Lion King is ok but a bit sad.

Pippa000 Fri 17-Jun-16 13:32:56

Not sure if it is Disney but there is a range of Tinkerbell films, we have watched Tinkerbell and the Netherbeast so often I know the script of by heart. DH likes Tinkerbell and the Pirate Fairy best, think it is the very short skirts!

Lisalou Fri 17-Jun-16 13:23:41

Nobody mentioned Disney's Pinocchio...I loved that one. A bugs life by pixar, and probably loads of others i can't remember

EEJit Fri 17-Jun-16 10:37:11

Not Disney, I don't think, but the Shrek series. I love them never mind the GC's.

Elrel Fri 17-Jun-16 10:09:01

DGD watched Tangled every weekend for quite a while when she about 9, before that she was very keen on an animation film about Moses, Prince of Egypt. We were never sure why. My 4 older GC liked the film of the musical Joseph after we saw the show together when they were 4-10.

Seb2015 Fri 17-Jun-16 09:49:45

My three year old DGS loves Tangled - it's a take on Rapunzel. Be warned though - you'll spend the rest of the day singing, Listen to your Mumsy smile

clareken Fri 17-Jun-16 09:03:14

The Sword in the Stone is good. My DGS is 5 and he loves it, especially when Arthur changes into other creatures. It is on Sky at the moment, if you have it.

Jaycee5 Fri 17-Jun-16 09:03:11

They did a Wind in the Willows collection which my nephew liked at that age. I can't remember which one I bought him but it had a very funny horse in it.
