"Alas poor Scruff, I knew him well, who could forget that pungent smell?"

Luckygirl Thu 11-Aug-16 20:16:17

I was very interested in the point of law under discussion yesterday and the idea that Shula coming clean would not help Helen's case because she had lied before. But presumably she would not tell a lie to get herself into prison, so surely some credence would be given to it.

Luckygirl Thu 11-Aug-16 20:14:54

I think that Rob's ploy with Jess will be to be excruciatingly nice to her - "So glad that you have moved on and are happy" - so that she is manipulated into wondering whether it was as bad as she remembers ready for her chat with Ana.

Gracesgran Thu 11-Aug-16 20:13:31

Nigel's death was the worst and silliest script ever Iam imo but I suppose the SWs wrote what they were told to.

Gracesgran Thu 11-Aug-16 20:07:52

I'm trying to remember back merlot. When Rob first moved in Jess didn't join him because she was looking after her mother who was sick. Was she down in Hampshire then? She could have moved into her Mum's house. Perhaps they knew one another growing up; I wish I could remember. She did get on well (so we were given to understand) with Rob's parents.

Iam64 Thu 11-Aug-16 19:59:57

Well! Rob threatening Jess is just what's needed. I do hope Jess has the sense to tell Anna about this when she visits, just in time for the Friday cliff hanger. I'm hoping that Rob's manipulation and coaching of Henry backfires spectacularly, as it may well do if the Cafcass worker is as experienced as they used to be. I'm teetering off into Real Life here, so must stop that and assume the Cafcass worker will indeed be an expert in talking with children at the centre of this kind of gruesome situation. Henry is just young enough to say something very telling, like daddy says I must tell you…….

Didn't Dorothy tell someone her name was chosen by her parents because they were fans of Dorothy Dandridge. Isn't (or wasn't) DD a beautiful black actor and isn't there a hint that Dan's Dorothy is also black?

As for Richard Locke - he and Shula meant a lot to each other. Isn't Alistair a total nightmare of a husband. His gambling debts almost led to them losing house, home and the stables. Shula bailed him out and nurtured him through it. Where has he been for the past year? Is he gambling again or does he have a lover? He and Shula certainly don't seem to show affection for each other. I usually want marriages to last but in this case, I'd be so pleased to see Shula and Dr Locke set up home together. Shula is more suited to him than her sister Lizzie. Lizzie needs another jolly rich boy like Nigel (I'll say again, I'm still cross they chucked him off the roof)

Gracesgran Thu 11-Aug-16 19:52:56

I think people like Rob may always underestimate someone like Emma and (hopefullysmile) that may be part of his undoing. I just hope Henry drops going to see Daddy's friend into the conversation at his SS interview.

Jess could jump either way now couldn't she. She may be too frightened to speak to Anna or may decide she has too. The hairs were really standing up on the back of my neck; I sometimes wish the acting wasn't so good shock

merlotgran Thu 11-Aug-16 19:46:50

I don't get why he's saying so much in front of Emma, LullyDully. He's such a schemer there must be a hidden agenda there.

phoenix Thu 11-Aug-16 19:45:32

Thank goodness for that,Graces grin

merlotgran Thu 11-Aug-16 19:44:56

How far is it from Ambridge to Hampshire?

Isn't it a funny coincidence that Jess is living there as well now?

LullyDully Thu 11-Aug-16 19:41:51

He must be feeling a bit guilty , yet arrogant as usual , to see Jess to threaten her.He has to win at all cost.He must trip himself up soon surely. There seems a chick in the armour the way he has let Emma in to the house.

Gracesgran Thu 11-Aug-16 19:41:38

You may not think so phoenix but it is arrogant to assume you can tell me how to post be it "lightening up" or in any other way. Perhaps that's how you have conversations in RL but I don't choose to. Sadly I feel this is spoiling tonight's episode but I presume you were trying to spoil something or why show such little concern for the feelings of others. You can go on being what would be rude in any normal conversation but I will not be replying to you on this subject again.

merlotgran Thu 11-Aug-16 19:30:00

Rob taking Henry to see Jess? I didn't see that coming.

Surely Henry is going to mention it to somebody.

merlotgran Thu 11-Aug-16 19:26:31

The Archers in the way that I enjoy it and I certainly don't need you to instruct me. This is a discussion thread - for discussing. Choose to read my posts or not but please don't be arrogant enough to think it is your job to tell others how to post.

gracesgran, that's exactly how I've been feeling for quite some time and I think phoenix, like me, is getting a little tired of you correcting people who don't see the characters through your eyes.

As for being rude....On the last thread you told me to 'sheath my claws' when I was replying to a post you hadn't even read and is just about the rudest comment anybody has ever made to me on Gransnet.

You do not own this thread.

phoenix Thu 11-Aug-16 19:23:56

Well, tonight's episode was rather chilling, the control that Rob is exercising over Henry is awful, the mention of giving the social workers the "right answers" made my skin crawl.

Wonder what Jess will do?

phoenix Thu 11-Aug-16 19:20:28

Graces how on earth could you think my post "rude"?? Also not entirely sure what you mean by "I do not feel lighted up", when I was only suggesting that you might "lighten up". confused

Actually, I found your response rather rude, and how very dare you accuse me of being "arrogant"!

I may be many things, but arrogant I am not!angry

Elrel Thu 11-Aug-16 18:30:55

Suzied. I think Dorothy said her parents loved the film Carmen Jones but everyone thought she was named after Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz.

Elrel Thu 11-Aug-16 18:26:34

Lazigirl. Yes, like an onion, more to be unpeeled. I'm also waiting for Dr Locke to reveal why he thought he recognised Rob.
I think I've given up on who was driving the car that caused Mark Lloyd's fatal accident, there was a point years later when a newcomer or visitor seemed to be briefly in the frame.
Suzied. I think Toby feels it's his duty and privilege to come on to, as Josh (?) said, anything with a pulse. Any attractive young woman anyway.

Gracesgran Thu 11-Aug-16 18:26:20

Phoenix how rude. I do not feel not 'lighted up'. I enjoy The Archers in the way that I enjoy it and I certainly don't need you to instruct me. This is a discussion thread - for discussingshock. Choose to read my posts or not but please don't be arrogant enough to think it is your job to tell others how to post.

Elrel Thu 11-Aug-16 18:19:32

Suzied - Dorothy Dandridge starred in (1950s?) Carmen Jones which was, for me, unforgettable.
'You go for me, and I'm taboo,
but if you're hard to get, I go for you.
If I do, then you are through,
my honey (?) that's the end of you!'

Habanera?

LullyDully Thu 11-Aug-16 14:06:33

Phoenix.......a drama????? Surely not.

Gracesgran Thu 11-Aug-16 12:47:15

Now then me old pal me old beauty, or, in this case GandTea the actor Chris Gittings who played Walter died in 1988 and, a few days later, his character left the Archers in a similar way to the actoreof the show much as Gittins had departed: he "passed away as he slept in his cottage during the night" and was found by his son Nelson in the morning. The character was due to celebrate his 92nd birthday on the radio three days later.

How time passes. That was nearly 30 years ago!smile

shysal Thu 11-Aug-16 11:47:51

I have trouble differentiating between Dr Locke, Harrison Burns and the Vicar. Probably because they all have a northern accent.

Lazigirl Thu 11-Aug-16 10:01:49

Merlot that is clever thinking - "Dan and Doris". Doris would be an even more unlikely name for a young woman than Dorothy.......The SWs are teasing us.

GandTea Thu 11-Aug-16 09:17:25

What happened to Walter Gabriel, he was a key character last time I listened.

Gracesgran Thu 11-Aug-16 08:26:40

I got the impression that RL is more interested in Elizabeth than Shula -did I get that wrong?
