"Alas poor Scruff, I knew him well, who could forget that pungent smell?"
I think the tablet with all those nice apps might actually have a tracking device installed. Cue Rob turning up in Tenby and..........?
AyjayF I thought that was such an interesting question so I looked it up and thought the following may be of interest.
How many letters can a prisoner on remand awaiting trial send?
Two letters can be sent free every week. There is no limit on the number that may be sent at the prisoner’s own expense. Letters will be opened to check that they do not contain prohibited items but not normally read. Normally there is no limit on the number of letters that can be received.
What about telephone calls?
It is normal to need to get phone numbers approved. A prisoner will be given a PIN number to use the phone (not phone cards) on a credit basis. Calls to lawyers are not monitored. Other calls maybe monitored by prison officers.
It made me think about people being kept on remand again but I couldn't reach a conclusion. Helen is, after all, innocent until, etc., but she has probably been safer where she is - not that that is why she is there of course
Thanks, things don't change much in the world of remand. Interesting report today about a Tory MP Philip Davies, that the criminal justice system is soft on women. It's an area I know a bit about and the research confirms women are more harshly sentenced. A labour peer, former MP Jean Corston challenged Mr Phillips, she wrote an influential report in 2007 which went on to inform government policy said there was indisputable evidence women were more harshly treated. One example she gave is of a woman sentenced to life for a first offence of wounding with intent. Aargh Helen ?
Just for those who are interested the expanded Radio Times comments for the week 20-26 August have been added to the Mumsnet spoilers thread
Shula, you're beginning to sound desperate.
What sort of job would Justin have available for Rob now the cattle have gone?
Am I the only archers addict who has some sympathy for Shula? She loved her first husband, he was killed in an rta. Her son Dan had juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (that magically cured itself when he joined the SAS - maybe not the SAS but some crack regiment) and her marriage to miserable Alistair hasn't been a bed of roses. What is Alistair up to? Is he gambling again or having an affair?
Justin sympathises with Rob doesn't he. He blamed Charlie for getting rid of Rob and Charlie was too chicken/polite to tell Justin the real reason. When Rob wasn't fit to play cricket, Justin made some comment about the team not being able to lose someone of Rob's caliber. Justin isn't a very reliable judge of character, nor is he a straight player.
It just gets worse, doesn't it. I've seen on line today, the case of a woman who stabbed her husband multiple times, then stabbed herself and claimed domestic abuse. Her husband died of blood loss, she didn't have Kirsty there to call an ambulance. She got life.
I have sympathy for Shula to Iam. I feel she has tried to do her best with what life has handed her and, although she gets it wrong, her intentions are generally good. Merlot I have a feeling she is desperate - I think I would be with Alistair [rolls eyes]
Justin believed what he was told and he seems a rather superficial person but he did seem to trust Charlie and may contact him - that would be good if it started unwinding a few more things but I rather think we have been led up that path before
Isn't it just so Rob that he has convinced himself that Helen asked him to get involved with shop? Unless I am wrong (often am) she was trying to encourage him to look for another job after he left Barrow Farm?
She definitely was.
I think she did ask him about jobs he was supposed to be applying for phoenix. She didn't want to give up half her job either; he really manipulated her on that.
If she is found not guilty because of self-defence Rob may have a bad reputation but I think Helen would find it hard to take him to court on the basis of coercive control. I suppose the police could but if they don't he will still be free to go off and try to destroy some other poor women's life. He seems to be invincible because he doesn't care what anyone else thinks at the end of the day - he has such a high and warped view of himself.
So.does anyone know the criteria for a case of coercive control? I didn't think Helen would go for that if she is found innocent. But she will need a restraining order? How do you prove grounds for that? There is no.simple.answer to this if Helen and Henry want peace.
I can see Helen going free but Rob still getting custody of both boys. Justin will give him a well paid job despite misgivings from Lillian and Adam and he'll employ a nanny which will cause even more grief at BF.
This is just going to go on....and on.....and on.
Hi Not been on GN very long & have just discovered this thread - I'm an Archers addict without a doubt. Looking forward to contributing, especially about how irritated I am by Pip.
Welcome,BGB. We are.all.very keen Archers fanatics and take.it.all very seriously. Pip used to be the voice of reason. Let's hope she is taking precautions!!
When Pippo was with the obnoxious Jude (have I got the right name?) She was beyond reason!
Welcome, BGB, and enjoy!
Pip! Damn Hudl!
The Pip storyline is really annoying. Didn't she go through a horrible teenage " it's sooo unfair" phase? Then her voice changed at uni, then she went all wanting to stay at home and do proper farming after she turned down some top job in Brazil or somewhere. She was madly in love with the cow man one minute, Now she's "friends with benefits" with the ghastly Toby whilst the hapless Rex pines for her. As if.
I will be so fed up if the script writers continue the siblings fight over one person line. We had that with Ed/Wll and Emurrr. Then with Rex /Toby and Pip and it seems they're building up some rivalry between Elizabeth and Shula for Dr Locke. Elizabeth definitely deserves some love interest and I'd have been reasonably happy to see her having a fling/long term relationship with Richard Locke. There is a track record though isn't there, in her youth, Shula had a relationship with Nigel. Nigel was too silly for her and later, he and Elizabeth fell in love and made a very good couple.
I've long wished the story line would involve Lizzie meeting up with an old school friend of Nigel. He'd be good looking, have had a giddy youth like Nigel did but now be a mature chap with pots of money. They would stay at Lower Loxley but spend the rest of their lives happily together.
Meanwhile, Alistair would die a sad death, possibly he'd be kicked by a horse or cow. After a period of mourning, during which his gambling debts/secret lover may be discovered, Shula and Dr Locke would rekindle their affair.
As for coercive control - I don't know the law about that but, I expect it wouldn't be the victim who took the offender to court. That doesn't happen in the criminal courts, is the police who investigate and the CPS who decide whether the case has merit. If Helen is found NG it can only be because a jury is persuaded she acted in self defence. If that's the case, the police have to investigate Rob. They already know he was stalking her via her mobile phone. Historical allegations of rape in marriage are notoriously difficult to successfully prosecute (well most rape allegations don't go to court, and a large proportion are NG findings). There is no independent evidence to corroborate what Helen alleges. Perhaps we need one of those on line petitions, to find the Ambridge One not guilty of wounding with intent.
It will all end in tears. Mark my words
Welcome to the thread BGB31. Be warned if you follow this thread that it is addictive, and I for one may have to go into rehab when the Rob/Helen story resolves (if it ever does). TA is certainly not "an everyday story of country folk" IMO.
Why does everyone want Shula to get it together with Richard Locke. I find her needy phone calls and "bumping into " him quite cringe worthy. She's not the goody two shoes that she's made out to be as others have pointed out. As for Alastair, he is her husband so if she's fed up with him do something about that instead of trying to hook Richard into an affair. He doesn't seem interested anyway.
I hope to goodness Justin sees the light about Rob who I can't bear to listen to anymore, just hearing his voice gives me the shivers.
I agree HannahLoisLuke, I can't stand Shula and find her 'holier than thou' attitude incredibly annoying (and unjustified).
It seems to me the Dr is making it clear his interests lie with Elizabeth (who I'm a fan of!)but of course Shula cant' bear that.
If Justin gives Rob a job I think Tom can kiss goodbye to any support for his Nuffield application.
Will somebody PLEASE ring Charlie??
Shula is not a person BGB32 and HannahLoisLuke she is a character and her character is being played very true to the one that has been created over the years. In life there are all sorts of people do you really go round saying you can't stand them just because they are different to you or do you try to understand why they are as they are.
Don't bother to answer - I can guess.
If that's the case GG, and I am sure it is. Fancy being Rob.
