Its no use I simply don't see the attractiveness of Aiden Turner as Ross Poldark. He just looks grumpy and a bit smelly most of the time. I like George Warleggan but only because he was such a splendid Freddy Threepwood in the Blandings series.

John Nettles is Cornish. His accent is proper.

I am SO sorry beammeupscottie! I didn't think sad.

tanith Mon 05-Sep-16 12:30:17

But Greyduster we didn't actually see him do it only the sound of a gun shot. He could of chickened out and fired it in the air. I'm not saying he did but its possible..

Well, he's spent too long talking posh in Midsummer Murders then Cornishgirl! Accent seemed to come and go.

Beammeupscottie Mon 05-Sep-16 12:46:41

Don't worry Greyduster! Not that fussed. Sometimes knowing the plot helps you pick up on other things. I am always teasing my OH by threatening to tell. "Do you want to know how it ends" "Do you want to know who did it?" He gets more involved than I do.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 05-Sep-16 12:49:14

Guess it's best to preface with SPOILER ALERT, but so easy to forget!

Greyduster Mon 05-Sep-16 13:23:42

Perhaps Tanith is right, who knows? I am apt to take things at face value.

Ana Mon 05-Sep-16 13:25:56

I think he did it. Can't see the point otherwise. And there was that tarot card...Death!

merlotgran Mon 05-Sep-16 13:28:18

I've read the books.

My lips are sealed grin

merlotgran Mon 05-Sep-16 13:29:25

Mind you, they may have altered the plot to get it all in this series so to speak.

fiorentina51 Mon 05-Sep-16 13:30:26

I enjoy watching this version of Poldark but have say I much prefer the original 1970s series. Robin Ellis didn't need to show rippling torso to set hearts aflutter and Angharad Rhys was a brilliant Demelza.

kittylester Mon 05-Sep-16 13:33:41

I've read the books too merlot and loved the original series but I prefer this Ross. And, Robin Ellis didn't look as though he had aged that well last night!

Atqui Mon 05-Sep-16 13:35:44

I don't think Francis did that in the original, series.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 05-Sep-16 13:42:06

I just googled it, but I couldn't find out. blush

shysal Mon 05-Sep-16 14:44:59

I read the books some time ago, all 13 of them. I may be wrong but I thought Francis died down the mine when drunk.
I loved the original TV series, which I have on DVD, but could never see Robin Ellis's Ross as attractive. I like Aiden more, but Angharad looked more like my idea of Demelza, more urchin-like.

Bijou Mon 05-Sep-16 17:05:36

I also muc h preferred the original TV series which I have just watched on DVD. I read all the books when they were first published and have recently re read the first three. Remakes are rarely as good as the original.

fiorentina51 Mon 05-Sep-16 18:05:21

I read the books too, several times. A good family yarn. I don't think Francis blew his brains out either in the original. Must check it out.

GrandmaMoira Mon 05-Sep-16 19:52:33

I love the books, the original TV series and the new one.

Maggiemaybe Mon 05-Sep-16 22:15:02

Blimey, I can't remember how Francis died, even though details such as the names of Ross and Demelza's children seem to have stuck. And I can't check it out now that I've given all the books to the charity shop. That's the very last time I have a go at de-cluttering.

fiorentina51 Mon 05-Sep-16 22:17:36

In the 1970's version he drowned in a copper mine. I think it followed the book but not sure as my books have long gone too.

Deedaa Tue 06-Sep-16 18:12:54

Didn't Ross rescue Francis when he was drowning? Must admit I can't remember how he did die. I wish they could get away from the identikit casting. Apart fron Ross all the young men look exactly the same, and so do the womaen. In the original Ross, Francis and George all looked very different and you would never have mixed up Demelza and Caroline or Elizabeth.

Atqui Wed 07-Sep-16 20:03:39

Maggiemaybe I know that feeling. I was persuaded to de clutter and gave them all away. I'd love to read them again...guess it will be on kindle.

Atqui Wed 07-Sep-16 20:05:06

I didn't realise that the blonde girl with the pug was Caroline. She seemed much nicer in the original series.

Rosieroe Wed 07-Sep-16 20:15:44

Oh my word, how come I never heard this before. I've just discovered that Aidan Turner is also a talented ballroom dancer who used to represent Ireland! Imagine Ross Poldark on Strictly Come Dancing! I think the excitement would be too much.

OMG worst Scottish accent ever tonight. Unbelievable that the producers allowed it.
