Now being reported on the BBC website so that's no more Bake Off for me then sad

ivy67 Tue 13-Sept-16 10:50:08

i will still watch the bake off and i like Mary Berry in fact i like Mel and Sue and Paul wont i do like is paying my tv licence

gillybob Tue 13-Sept-16 10:49:25

They have to have C list "celebs" in everything from
Master chef to strictly etc. Haven't heard of most people that take part anyway. To be fair I hadn't heard of PH until the GBBO and MB was a cake maker from my school days. I do watch sometimes and tend to miss a few then pick up again . But I don't think I would watch at all if it weren't for Mel and Sue keeping it lighthearted when actually it's boring as hell .

trisher Tue 13-Sept-16 10:48:45

It's on its way out anyway. There are only so many times you can watch people bake cakes and wonder who will win, especially when it the judges are MB and PH. I like her better than him. The only thing that could bring this back is if one of the contestants tipped a bowl of cake mix over his over styled hair, let it drip down his fake tanned face and carefully kneeded it into his immaculate shirt!

loopylou Tue 13-Sept-16 10:46:54

I have to admit to not watching GBBO, Strictly or any other similar genre of TV programme; the novelty wore off yonks ago.
I find PH extremely irritating (sorry fans ?).
In fact I rarely watch anything on TV that truly grips me I'm turning into an old grump
?

Theoddbird Tue 13-Sept-16 10:44:12

It is going to Channel 4. Hopefully they won't change it too much.

tigger Tue 13-Sept-16 10:43:42

Every picture tells a story. The photograph on the front of the Guardian seems to say it all, no happy smiles there.

suebrocklehurst Tue 13-Sept-16 10:38:44

The main thing that will put me off watching it next year is that the first season will be a celebrity version. Part of the charm of GBBO is that the competitors are everyday people which makes you think - I could do that!

henetha Tue 13-Sept-16 10:38:42

It's a pity that some comments have to be so unpleasant about the presenters. If you don't like them then don't watch them.
As for the programme moving to another channel, well at least we can give it chance, can't we?
Some people seem to be proper old grumps.

adnil1949 Tue 13-Sept-16 10:31:57

Never thought Bake Off (not that I ever watch it) was a BBC type program and now they`ve made enough money off it, they are too mean to spend the Licence payers money to keep it.

Liz08 Tue 13-Sept-16 10:31:34

Am I the only person who has never watched GBBO? I didn't enjoy cooking at school (preferred needlework)and I haven't enjoyed 45years of cooking for the family. Its like watching a programme about vacuuming as far as I'm concerned......

HootyMcOwlface Tue 13-Sept-16 10:30:20

I'm a bit fed up with it now anyway, so Channel 4 can have it. I haven't watched it at all this time round. How often can you bear to watch people peering in an oven wondering if whatever it is is done yet? And Mel and Sue, well one of them really gets on my nerves, the grungy looking one with glasses, could do with a good wash. Bye bye and good riddance.

radicalnan Tue 13-Sept-16 10:29:38

Strictly come jungle and all that fake reality stuff are such a bore.....who cares someone can make a cake...............

What happened to Telly that gave us pause for thought?

Ramblingrose22 Tue 13-Sept-16 10:17:04

It seems that with GBBO people either love it or hate it! I love it but agree that the format could do with a change and I find Mel and Sue very irritating.

As ever, it's all about money, regardless of what the production company has claimed.

Maybe they'll regret their greed when the format gets changed for the worse and the audience will drop because viewers will get fed up with the adverts.

nana5ue Tue 13-Sept-16 10:07:38

I thoroughly enjoy the programme and the Friday night Jo Brand show.
Off to channel 4, well initially it was disappointing but ch 4 is better than ITV1 but we can only wait and see.
It is a lovely programme to watch with my granddaughters, all the people are super, love the interplay between Paul and Mary et al.
In truth we don't like change do we?

Collgirl1 Tue 13-Sept-16 10:04:13

Honestly, you lot sound like the Daily Mail commentators - very little good to say about a hugely popular programme. I enjoy it for what it is - without agonising about the character of the presenters or their false teeth or other. It's just entertainment, for goodness sake. However, and this is my grouse, to take it to another station and we will end up like the paralympics - dire on STV as against the BBC. I watched for twenty minutes the other day and saw no action, just interviews and ads. Let's hope GBBO doesn't go the same way.

felice Tue 13-Sept-16 10:02:27

I am not as interested now, I think they are running out of 'bakes', steaming is not baking and i see pancakes are on the menu this week, that is not baking.
The iced biscuits left me cold, DGS has been making them since he was 3. Not really a challenge, and I agree with posters on another thread that the time limits are a bit silly, 2 1/2 hours for a large loaf is cutting it very fine.
I do not get C4 so will just watch the Dutch version which is quite good lots of continental bakes.

TyneAngel Tue 13-Sept-16 10:00:38

I will be sorry to see GBBO get the Channel Four treatment, but in defence of the programme makers (I've no connection, but DSIL works in TV production) it took the production company four years of rejection and often ridicule before the BBC took it on (yes, I'd think loyalty too, but hey, that's n ot how the world works these days.)

adaunas Tue 13-Sept-16 10:00:05

Great News! I've managed to avoid GBBO on BBC because it's dull, repetitive and the only good thing about Mary Berry is that she's much older than me and still on TV. I caught an interview on Victoria Derbyshire with examples of how it might change on Channel 4. They made me laugh, but I still won't watch it.

Suers Tue 13-Sept-16 09:57:46

I thought I was the only person in Britain who couldn't stand Bruce! I couldn't bear to watch Strictly until he left. It's much better now. I've only just started to watch GBBO this season, enjoying it so far....

2mason16 Tue 13-Sept-16 09:57:21

Love Bake Off! But already reporting that next year it will be so called"celebrities"

Maccyt1955 Tue 13-Sept-16 09:57:18

I can't believe the nasty ageist comments on here. Calling Mary Berry an 'old crone' is disgusting. One of the reasons I won't contribute to these discussions any more.

Hunt Tue 13-Sept-16 09:53:51

someone said ITV will ruin it. Not necessarily, Formula one is even better!

Izabella Tue 13-Sept-16 09:51:27

Still a bake off "virgin" as never seen this. Unlikely to see it having reversed type 2. ?

sucraft Tue 13-Sept-16 09:50:58

I'm prepared to give it a go; if it's basically the same, I have no problem.

I do wonder how much longer it can go on, though - how many more techniques are there that can be accomplished in the timeframe and the marquee? At least the earlier competitors knew most of them were well-known in British cuisine (even if from a different one originally) but now the net is having to go further and further

Lewlew Tue 13-Sept-16 09:49:50

It's gotten like Strictly... over done and stale. At least it was a show where people actually 'created' something. My biggest beef with these shows is that if you don't want to watch, you could avoid them, but pick up a Sunday newspaper supplement? And every week you them or other TV show personalities, sometimes the same ones week after week after week all air-brushed and smiley. Surely there are others deserving of a cover and feature. hmm
