Looks as if ITV might take it on though.

Thanks Ana that'll be a relief wink

kittylester Mon 12-Sept-16 18:45:31

I echo Tabitha, that the end of GBBO as far as I'm concerned. Let's hope we keep Strictly on the beeb! ?sad

Pittcity Mon 12-Sept-16 18:51:55

Danny Baker summed it up with this tweet, "Worst aspect of Bake Off going ITV is the "Still to come! Kim has a collapse! Marcus wobbles! And Mary gets contrary!!" into the ad breaks."
What if it was presented by Ant and Dec? ?

Alima Mon 12-Sept-16 18:55:08

No more GBBO for me if it is on ITV, they will ruin it.

Ana Mon 12-Sept-16 18:56:46

You snobby lot! grin

kittylester Mon 12-Sept-16 19:04:41

Sorry Tanith bloody thing has done it again!

Jane10 Mon 12-Sept-16 19:06:06

Programmes that started on BBC rarely do well on other channels. Greedy production company playing hard ball and the BBC called their bluff. Good! Can't believe Mary will go with them. I certainly won't bother to watch.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 12-Sept-16 19:12:07

I'm surprised about Mary Berry going with it to itv. Still, money and celebrity. Not to be turned down.

gillybob Mon 12-Sept-16 19:31:43

Actually Mary Berry is starting to get on my nerves a bit . She is so false .
False smile, false teeth ( she has to gnaw on the side), false nails, false eyelashes, hair weaves etc.
I think she is well and truly past it .

gillybob Mon 12-Sept-16 19:33:20

I wonder how much she is paid? Reminds me a bit of what Bruce Forsyth was like with strictly, not knowing when to give up . To bloomin' greedy .

Ana Mon 12-Sept-16 19:48:55

I always worry one of her nails will come off when she's carefully taking a tiny morsel of someone's cake!

Don't think she's anything like as irritating or past it as Brucie though.

Pollengran Mon 12-Sept-16 19:55:10

Someone with sense has sold them to ITV. Personally, I would have sent them all to the Tower of London and chucked their Blue Peter badges in with them. [sick emoticon not yet available] smile.

Jane10 Mon 12-Sept-16 19:57:53

I'm glad the Beeb stood up to them. Its license payers money the production company was after.

Ana Mon 12-Sept-16 20:08:49

Yes, the Beeb needs all the dosh it can get to pay its executives - can't afford to squander it on decent tv programmes...

Rosieroe Mon 12-Sept-16 20:08:49

Please don't compare Mary Berry with Bruce Forsthye - I couldn't stand the man and IMO Strictly has benefitted greatly from his absence. On the contrary I think GBBO would not be the same without Mary. I think she looks lovely with her false teeth and nails and hair. My goodness most young girls these days have false hair and nails and their teeth look false they're so white. I didn't think Gransnetters would condemn an older woman for trying to look her best. I love her wealth of experience in cookery. I've bought her books and have had some great results with most recipes. She has worked hard for most of her life and for once I think "good on you" for her making as much from her popularity as she can. I despair though at the what appears to be greed on the part of the production company. Perhaps the BBC has rights to all the spin-off merchandise and that's what they can't agree on.

Welshwife Mon 12-Sept-16 20:10:23

It is made by an outside production company and I gathered they were still making the programme.

NanKate Mon 12-Sept-16 20:18:59

I think Channel 4 have bought GBBO.

Mary Berry came to a group of WIs in my area. She was a delight. She didn't make a charge, I think she sold some books though. She answered all our questions and was not pushy in any way.

She had polio as a child hence her hand movements at times looks a bit odd.

If I was 80 odd I would bite carefully into food, so that I didn't break a tooth.

She dresses well and is a great representative of the older generation.

Hope they get rid of Mel and Sue, their humour is dire IMO.

Pollengran Mon 12-Sept-16 21:03:46

The trouble is that the BBC are charging a lot of licence payers for things they don't want to see. Yes, there are pensioners who applaud the likes of Mary Berry, their teeth, and Bruce Forsyth for keeping going, but there are others who don't identify with that.

I hate the patronising nonsense that thinks all older people want to see old people on TV.
I would love to see something like the 6 5 special brought back for young people to show their talent.

gillybob Mon 12-Sept-16 22:04:05

I certainly don't identify with either BF or MB. Old codgers trying to "be young". I think Sue and Mel are brilliant in the GBBO and bring a real genuine humour to what would otherwise be and old crone and a man with contact lenses and a giant ego tasting and criticising food .

I think I'm in a bad mood tonight .

gillybob Mon 12-Sept-16 22:05:30

Do we know how much MB and PH are paid ?

Ana Mon 12-Sept-16 22:08:13

I like Mel and Sue too, although I don't see Mary Berry as an old crone. Paul Hollywood certainly does have a giant ego though...

merlotgran Mon 12-Sept-16 22:21:21

I like Mel and Sue. They inject a bit of old fashioned music hall type humour into the show. Mary Berry is Mary Berry she just has to be herself and it works.

Paul Hollywood can take a running jump.

I fear GBBO's days are numbered though.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 12-Sept-16 22:25:48

Rosieroe she can't hold a candle to Marguerite Patten. (Now sadly, left us)
