So, as the trial has been and gone, we are all glad that Helen won, and Rob had his true self revealed, will the rift 'tween Adam & Ian be healed?

Whose jam will be judged to be the best? Will Joe approach his final rest?

Will Grange Farm rent be paid on time?

Can I be arsed inspired to write more drivel rhyme?

Away we go!

merlotgran Wed 15-Mar-17 19:27:54

Lilian, dear.....It's pronounced Ascutt, not Ascot which is a common water heater. grin

The wheel of fortune goes both up and down and you are right Merlot, it would good to see Ed get a break. He has so little capital and I wonder if it is the feeding rather than the ram. They could really do without Eddy's 'good ideas' too. Will they even be able to continue paying the rent? Emma seems pretty fed up too.

GracesGranMK2 Tue 14-Mar-17 23:00:47

It was phoenix. I meant it rather more with a smile on my face than it comes over on paper.

merlotgran Tue 14-Mar-17 20:24:21

I hope the SWs are not going to stick doggedly to the line that only entitled young farmers succeed.

Ed is a hard working man with a family to support but his cattle had to be stolen and the ram that he had such high hopes for is producing weakling lambs.

It's time they stopped giving all the breaks to pampered brats like Pip.

"Attack" ? Bit strong.

GracesGranMK2 Tue 14-Mar-17 19:43:19

I agree about the generation against generation bit but I think they will have to write this generation as it finds the world. It's interesting that the Fairbrother boys are not in secure work but none of the young people are really going 'out to work' - other than Alice - but being subsumed into the farms so we are not really seeing this come through yet. In an older generation I wish they had let Cathy stay in teaching.

I wasn't attacking you GGM2and apologise if you thought I was. I accept we're all influenced by the time in which we 'grow up' but I'm not comfortable with any number of gransnet/mumsnet/daily mail articles which seek to set one generation against another.

GracesGranMK2 Tue 14-Mar-17 09:49:24

Please don't attack me for making a comment about a character who did, indeed, grow up as part of the millennial generation and, just as you and I were influenced by the time we grew up in, will have been influenced by her 'time'. This does not mean all 'bad' for any generation, it just means your character is influenced, sometimes more, sometimes less, by the time you grew up in. If you feel it is all nonsense please 'attack' the phycologists who did the research - not me!

Because I am reading a lot at the moment about educating the millennial generation it is probably at the front of my mind but I had no intention to insult your millennials or, indeed 'Pip'. More to the point I would suggest that each generation can be difficult for another to understand as they were just not influenced by the same things.

In this list you can see that the characteristics are neither all positive or all negative but rather influences one of which - because of the way their parents and grandparents brought them up - is "They have been told over and over again that they are special, and they expect the world to treat them that way.", and you can see how difficult this can be for millennials going out into the world - including ours who are also a joy.

Iam64 Tue 14-Mar-17 08:10:34

Not the millennials in my family and friendship circle GracesGran. There have always been young people who are rude and dismissive to their parents but Pip takes the biscuit in expecting her parents to replace the profit she 'lent' to her boyfriend.
Johnny is a millennial and he's a joy !

GracesGranMK2 Mon 13-Mar-17 23:01:56

She's a millennial though Iam and Merlot so perhaps well drawn as an example of some of her generation.

Iam64 Mon 13-Mar-17 19:56:20

merlotgran - I'm totally opposed to slapping BUT I said out loud "somebody give her a slap"
What an entitled little madam she is

merlotgran Mon 13-Mar-17 19:47:59

I really want to give Pip a good slap. angry

Tiger wasn't exactly "mate for life" material either, but Justin is typical of the type of man Lilian is attracted to. She seems to need an element of danger in her life.I do agree that the prospect may not be so attractive when the risk factor and excitement has gone and she has to deal with his dirty underpants and socks. His bank balance will be considerably less too after the lovely Miranda has finished with him.

Iam64 Mon 13-Mar-17 08:48:39

I'm with you GGMK2 - it's one thing being Justin's 'other woman', quite another to be his life partner living with various 'other women' as seems inevitable given Justin's approach to life.
Justin has been fun for Lilian, helped her in the process of getting over Tiger. The thing is she loved Tiger but I'm not sure she loves Justin. His sense of entitlement is staggering. Anyway - who else wonders if the money is mainly Miranda's. She isn't a push over and I'm sure she'll put various obstacles in the way of a straightforward divorce.

GracesGranMK2 Mon 13-Mar-17 08:36:07

I am not surprised she was keen to get some thinking space after all when she arrived at the Dower House she thought it was all over. Justin has made the decision he wants without consulting Lillian and now she needs time to think. Justin was very clear about the basis of their relationship - almost forensically so - and has never previously suggested anything different. Lillian now needs to really think if this is what she wants and, if it were me, I would want to think about whether I could trust Justin to go through with this.

It is also obvious that he has always had affairs and you know what they say about marrying the mistress (or replacing the wife with her) - it leaves a vacancy, which Justin may take a while to fill but there is no saying he won't.

Elrel Mon 13-Mar-17 07:56:39

She seems to have cold feet. She was very keen to get back to Brian and Jenny's.

travelsafar Mon 13-Mar-17 07:54:21

I had a lump in my throat yesterday listening to the Archers on radio 4 and hearing Justin say that he wanted Lillian in his life. Looking forward to hearing the outcome of their conversation!!!!!

Elrel Sat 11-Mar-17 10:14:54

Can they now settle for domestic peace? I did enjoy giggling at the geriatric shenanigans involving wellies and bushes and ending with an earring down Lil's embonpoint!

Lazigirl Sat 11-Mar-17 09:29:58

Awww. Lilian has a new tiger. ?

HannahLoisLuke Sat 11-Mar-17 08:58:42

Always loved Jazzer, what a kind friend under his Jack the lad exterior. He'd make a great boyfriend for Kirsty (jumping the gun here) and it would certainly put That annoying Tom Archers nose out of joint!

Justin and Lilian? Not sure. She may change her mind once Miranda has taken her half.

phoenix Fri 10-Mar-17 23:32:26

So pleased for Lillian! (Yes, I know it's not real grin)

merlotgran Fri 10-Mar-17 22:08:30

Miranda's put-downs are almost as good as Margot Leadbetter's from The Good Life.......almost.

MawBroon Fri 10-Mar-17 22:04:30

I think the lifestyle Justin has to offer will do her nicely.

Luckygirl Fri 10-Mar-17 21:59:45

I think that Lilian will run a mile - she just wants a bit of fun and enjoys the buzz of being illicit. Poor Justin.

GracesGranMK2 Fri 10-Mar-17 21:59:02

The other side of Jazzer. He is a great character.
