Lord, who's Lena, Jamila? Did I nod off and miss something? That's not beyond the realms of possibility, unlike some of the happenings in last night's episode.

Another unbelievable thing was that anyone would think that toy monkey was cute - any normal child would have run off screaming at the sight of it.

Maybe the body in the shed was the third girl who had been "starved to death" or would there have been an autopsy that proved the cause of death? Maybe they didn't bother with that just like they didn't bother testing Gemma's DNA with that of the dead girl.

I think Baptiste's wife has no chance in getting him to slow down until he has solved this case. It is literally eating him away.

I think the body in the shed was Lena, the German girl who must have been fathered by Sam but he can't have known that - he obviously didn't keep in touch with the mother or he would have known she had gone missing. Unless he has more to hide.

Perhaps drill man swaps Sophie/Alice around acording to whether they have been 'good' or not.

The burnt body in the shed was one of the script editors. Whether she committed hara-kiri out of remorse at her own sloppiness or was murdered by the director will be made clear in the final episode.

Yes, I was cross last night, some scenes were so ruddy ridiculous unbelievable (yes, I know it's only a story, it's only a story...). For goodness sake, though!! As Greyduster says, the house explodes and all the neighbours sleep on? They torch a family home without checking it's empty then are shocked someone's killed? They go in there in the first place instead of just asking the girl who's just left it what's happening inside? Dying detective with mobility and stability issues heads off for the murder suspect's house and his concerned wife says but oo, it's so dangerous, oh go on then, I'll be waiting for you - what was she going to do instead of going with him, get started on the tea?

I'm taking it too seriously, aren't I?

I think there are elements of the story that have been sloppily handled - a house in a village is blazing and explosions are occurring and no one else comes out to see what is happening? In reality they would never have got back to their car in one piece. I can't imagine that, in reality, a commanding officer would lose such a shocking grip on her command that "they were allowed to run riot" and fraternise with locals who were former members of the Republican Guard would have been allowed to happen. DH thought it was hilarious. But hey, this is tele! Can't wait for next week.

I think short haired girl is Sophie, and girl in cellar is Alice. Whoever the body was in the shed, Sam fathered as well and yes, he's trying to hide something. And maybe someone IS trying to blackmail Iraq woman into silence.

So little boy in Iraq is Museum Man, who's got it in for Reed and Stone because his sister perished in the fire? What happened to the older girl who ran off? That the 3rd girl who ended up in the shed?

Last nights episode was good. So much now fitting into place but I'm still puzzled. I didn't see the second girl (locked up) coming and I'm struggling with which one is Alice and which one is Sophie. I'm wondering whether she has been only been waiting to get her child (Lucy) before making a run for it. Why can't Sam see what Gemma can ? Is he trying to hide something himself? He did match the DNA of the dead body in the shed didn't he? What was that all about? Why did he refuse the surgery in his face despite it being offered for free? Some things are still not adding up for me. Can't wait until next weeks FINAL episode.

The actor who plays the press officer (drillman) is 49 in real life, so if he is playing his real age then it's possible that he could have been in Iraq in 1991 as he would have been 24.

I thought the "cover up" was an essential part of the story. Unless she knew about it all along and has helped to cover up for Stone and Reid whether she wanted to or not. She knows that her husband??? did not do it.

It must have been covered up or they would have been court-martialled.
If it was covered up and she left at 40+ she would have got a pension so I can't understand why on earth she would stay there and marry the butcher.

That's a good point. To date, her character has been peripheral. If she was involved in something criminal and was cashiered (sacked) I doubt if she would have wanted to stay anywhere near her former regiment. As for whether soldiers stay in one place permanently, these days, in a place like Germany, they very well might do longer tours of duty. It used to be two or three years. There aren't that many places for them to go these days. We had a friend who seemed to be swanning around at Rheindahlen forever before he retired. On TV they can make it up as they go along!

What I don't understand is that, if she was the commanding officer and Stone and Reid were in her regiment or platoon (or whatever it's called in the Army) and something awful happened - why, when she left the Army would she stay around where the regiment is stationed? Why not go back home to the UK?

(and they wouldn't be stationed there permanently - would they?)

Definitely was one Greyduster and I think he was the one who found her (but could be wrong about that) One of the impressions I got early on was that the butcher offered her and the boy some sort of sanctuary.
She has been addressed as whatever the butcher's surname is, but I suppose that could be good manners.

Yes there was definitely a young man with Down's working in the butchers shop but I don't think he was their/her/his son. As I remember him being told to "get himself home". Presumably the paper that Baptists saw had her name on it trisher. Do we know that her and the butcher were married?

I thought the young man with Down's Syndrome worked in the butcher's shop?
