Has anyone seen this yet? I am going this evening. I have heard very good reports about it. It is directed by Ken Loach who also did Cathy, come home in the ? 1970s.

Of course it is heavily on the subject, beam. What else do you expect it to be on?
It won the Palme D'Or, so yes it is good artistically.
Anyway, you said you wouldn't waste your money on it, but you wouldn't go and see it anyway once you'd read anything about it. It's not propaganda. It's what has really happened to people because of this government's ideals. Propaganda is the spreading of ideas, not reality.

Personally I don't think it's great artistically. However it IS realistic and does indeed represent life for many people, so, yes, a good film and no, not propaganda.

Why do some people always want to start a fight on a perfectly pleasant interesting thread . Keyboard warriors is an apt description !
I have not seen the film deliberately , I just know I would find it too upsetting . Kathy come home was heart wrenching and this one is supposed to be more so .

Anniebach Tue 15-Nov-16 18:05:45

Bringing politics into it was sure to cause disagreement , untill then posts were fine

durhamjen Tue 15-Nov-16 18:21:38

That's just laughable. It's a political film. It was made to be political.
It's not about a walk in the park.
Loach was right when he said that there is too much fake nostalgia around.

br0adwater Tue 15-Nov-16 18:35:36

Disappointed to have been told how it ends sad

Anniebach Tue 15-Nov-16 19:04:06

So complaining and name calling was uncalled for was it not?

br0adwater Tue 15-Nov-16 19:21:46

Now, now children. Play nicely

They've had a special showing of Cathy Come Home in Parliament.
Now all they need is I, Daniel Blake.

Unfortunately it did take them 50 years to show Cathy Come Home.

Ana Wed 16-Nov-16 20:36:54

Yes, should have shown it in Blair's PM days.

Anniebach Wed 16-Nov-16 20:51:56

Took the Libs to arrange the viewing

durhamjen Wed 16-Nov-16 23:35:26

As Ana said, Blair, your favourite, did not show it. Why not?

Anniebach Wed 16-Nov-16 23:41:48

Jen, are you unwell? You are now either telling untruths or in some fantasy world, I hsve never, ever said I favoured Blair, I really am concerned fir you . Of all recent MP's I have saud u like and hsve respect for Gordon Brown, perhaps these political threads are having an effect on you sbility to think clearly? What ever, I am concerned

durhamjen Wed 16-Nov-16 23:47:59

You voted for him three times, Annie. Okay, one of your favourites.
Anyway, why didn't he show it, do you think?
Answer Ana's question. Much better than trying to attack me.

Anniebach Thu 17-Nov-16 08:33:47

Jen, following your logic that Blair was my favourite because I voted labour when he was leader the same applies to Corbyn who stood as a labour MP whilst Blair was leader.

Why didn't he leave labour and join Galloways Repect Party? Ken Loach was a member, he even stood as a respect candidate for the EU elections

durhamjen Thu 17-Nov-16 14:53:21

There hasn't been a general election since Corbyn became leader, so it's not the same.
You voted labour because you thought Blair a good leader. I didn't vote Labour because I thought he was a bad leader.

Corbyn thought he was doing the right thing by voting against Blair from within the party. However, he only did it by voting against the whip for what he believed in, not creating open sedition, unlike many of the PLP now.

Many of the Labour members you support now did not oppose the Tory party helping to cause the very conditions that are shown in I, Daniel Blake.

Changing tack slightly, but still on the film front. A friend bought me a ticket to The Innocents yesterday. Felt cold right through as its so atmospheric with the snow on the ground. Won't spill any beans but would be interested to hear what others think about it.

By the way it's subtitled for anyone who hates that sort of thing.

Anniebach Thu 17-Nov-16 16:18:42

So you still haven't become a party member Jen , thought differently , well no need to discuss the party with you

Anniebach Thu 17-Nov-16 16:20:18

If there is snow in it I will give it a miss

durhamjen Thu 17-Nov-16 16:31:02

Where did I say that I wasn't a member, Annie?

Anniebach Thu 17-Nov-16 16:41:25

Jen, this is confusing, you refer to MP's who I support , I support the Labour Party, I do not support the cut off branch who call themselves red labour momentum

I think Corbyn has a problem, he stayed an MP to vote against the whip. He got shot of wife 2 because he didn't approve of her choice of school for their son. He didn't continue at college because he disagreed with the carriculum set by his lecturers

Think there is a name for this sort of person but I cannot think what it is, I must ask the mental health team at the next meeting

f77ms Thu 17-Nov-16 16:47:31

FFS change the record ! , The thread was about I Daniel Blake , would be nice to get back to the subject in the op .

Anniebach Thu 17-Nov-16 16:57:06

If a Lynch film made fifty years ago can be discussed !

Bobbysgirl19 Thu 17-Nov-16 21:20:21

Hi mumofmadboys, I went to see this film last night and thought it was brilliant!
Found it very thought provoking, and politics didn't come into it for me.

What it did highlight for me were the flaws in the welfare system, which would exist regardless of which party was in power. Also the jobsworth people who were totally disinterested in individuals, just probably in furthering their own careers.

I can see why this film won lots of awards, it certainly made me think!
