I tend to like old films, feel-good films and thrillers. Not so fond of sci fi and I avoid horror films
My "favourite" changes with my mood. One film I can watch over and over is "Usual Suspects", (let's face it just about anything with Kevin Spacey). To lower the tone a bit - at the moment I am loving Deadpool - yes I know it has a lot of swearing and over the top violence but it is also very very funny (and I think Ryan Reynolds is very under-rated)
Avatar The Abyss The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas watched first time July 2017 Schindlers List watched first time July 2017 Les Miserables...musical version with Hugh Jackman, Russel Crowe, etc Chicago...musical Mission Impossible films The Matrix films The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo watched first time June 2017
Eloethan; I saw The Lacemaker on tv many many years ago but I must have loved it because it stuck in my mind. I must see it again. I've just bought The Quiet Man; so NOT CORRECT these days, but I love the locations and I was named after Maureen O'Hara.I'll have a think about my list as I dust the next room [am spring cleaning/decluttering at the moment].
Bridges of Madison County ...absolute favourite, pass the hankie Some Like it Hot.......still funny,no matter how many times you see it Metropolis......can't believe such an old film is so good Don't Look Now...chilling
Before Sunrise/Before Sunset/Before Midnight LA Story Jour de Fete Monsieur Hulot's Holiday High Noon Any of Greta Garbo's - going back a bit I know, but so do I!
Just remembered a surprise hit with my children was ' Blackbeard's Ghost' - it is when it becomes vital that they add it to their own collection in later years that you realise they valued the memories built around watching it ... and same goes for Muppet's Christmas Carol.
JackyB your post made me realise that my own top choices are all 'feel good' movies. Must say something about me - I do tend to avoid horrors and thrillers.
Monsieur Hulot's Holiday - cracks me up every time! Calamity Jane - I know all the words to every song! Some Like it Hot - ditto Singing In The Rain - ditto again Philadelphia Story - and again Pillow Talk or anything with Doris Day Blazing Saddles Lion
