Is anyone following the new series?

I watched on catch up last night and after only one episode Sheila Ferguson (one of the 3 degrees) is coming across as a right bossy boots and likes her own way. I am rather warming to Rusty Lee (who's laugh I used to find very irritating) and Amanda Barrie who seems to be quite down to earth. Blimey I was so disappointed to see how old Paul Nicolas looked, considering he was a bit of a heart throb back in the day. I am looking forward to seeing how this series goes.

Difficult Chewbacca , Ioan Gruffud if I could forget when on Who Do You Think You Are thry traced him back to the king who murdered the first prince of Wales, poor Ioan was devastated, so was I.

So Martin Sheen would be second choice

Oh Rhys Ifans makes me laugh though

I keep wondering why these wonderful chances to try out a new life in India, (and other exotic places) always go to well heeled celebs.
I would love to see how a few genuinely hard up oap's get on there, when trying to live on their State retirement pensions.
Most of the celebs have a chance to amass quite a substantial nest egg, and could live in comfort anywhere they chose.
How would retirement be for poorer oldies?

I'd offer to share Annie but he'll be fit for nowt after! Let's see if there are any other Welshmen that might take your fancy? Spoilt for choice really. Anthony Hopkins? Rhys Ifans? Michael Sheen?

Anniebach Sun 26-Feb-17 13:08:42

Going to sulk now ?

Chewbacca Sun 26-Feb-17 12:43:09

Sorry Annie but Jones is a Welsh boy and I'm Welsh too so he's MINE! plus I got there first.

Anniebach Sun 26-Feb-17 12:25:52

Chewbacca, you beat me to it/him

Chewbacca Sun 26-Feb-17 12:07:26

Roses I think I'd prefer to come to Midsomer with you if that's OK? I'm not brilliant in the heart, hate spicy food and don't travel by plane very well. If we have to have shared rooms, please could I bunk up with Jones? blush

Not fear of flying for me, just all the waiting around at airports, claiming luggage etc.
So a little holiday in Midsomer will do me nicely, we will be perfectly safe as Mrs Barnaby will be joining us for outings.Won't we?? ( looks around nervously)

gillybob Sun 26-Feb-17 09:27:51

That's okay. Anniebach My DS used to have to take a "wobbly pill" before he could get on a plane. Silly boy used to watch a lot of disaster documentaries and once slept through an entire flight. He then attended one of those "fear of flying" classes and he's fine now. Can't get enough of it.

Maybe we could arrange a course for those Gransnetters who are afraid of flying. Could also make for a laugh interesting viewing.

Anniebach Sun 26-Feb-17 09:16:09

Gilly, how kind if you but you could hsve to sedate me and pin me down ?

gillybob Sun 26-Feb-17 09:11:30

It really will be okay flying you know Anniebach I could hold you hand. You could even come by boat if you wanted to although the trip might be half finished by the time you arrived

Although we could do 2 programs. Gransnet on Tour at Home and Gransnet on Tour Away.

Considering I live just outside Newcastle, Heathrow and Gatwick are rather far for me Auntieflo so maybe to be fair to everyone we should make it somewhere in the middle or else all fly from our local airports and meet at the destination... I was rather hoping for tours of local wineries, rides on camels (or donkeys) swimming in the sea, festivals, visits to monasteries, local crafts, new food, markets, boat trips, scuba diving , and the likes.... The sorts of things we don't do at home so much.

Midsomer is lovely but... It's not going to make for thrilling entertainment is it? Unless of course one of us gets bumped off every day.

Auntieflo Sun 26-Feb-17 08:18:54

Sounds like we're on, but if the journey is long, I think I will need a lie down bed, still if it's all expenses paid, what the heck. Newcastle airport's a bit far, can you divert the plane to Gatwick or Heathrow? See you all soon.

Chewbacca Sun 26-Feb-17 00:27:43

Is there room on the bus for me please? I'm not bad at cooking and I'll muck in with any chores. But it's best that I don't bring any teensy tiny shorts I'd get arrested .

Grandma2213 Sun 26-Feb-17 00:20:29

Yes folks I'm up for this one and frankly I don't care where as long as we are waited on and have interesting experiences. People are always fascinating as you are getting to know them and as long as I can get away on my own from time to time (like Bill Oddie) I can cope.

Jane10 Sat 25-Feb-17 14:44:33

I we had a series in Sainte Marie would I have to squeeze into tiny shorts ?

rosesarered Sat 25-Feb-17 13:57:10

Yes, let's stick to Midsomer ( and as a lot of it is filmed in Oxfordshire I won't need to travel far.) smile we could have adjoining cottages ( although bagsy the old rectory, the one with masses of red roses climbing on it!) whilst there, we could have a pub night/ attend a fete/go to church/visit the Lady Of The Manor/ take an outside art class/
Look round a farm/ visit a small brewery/ look round a horse stud farm/have some fun at the fair......in fact all those places where murder regularly occurs in Midsomer.grin
I think that twelve of us would be a good number ( would anybody be alive by the end if it?)

Kateykrunch Sat 25-Feb-17 13:47:19

Jane...don't worry, we will have a packing list to aid, but don't forget, all luggage will be transported on your behalf and you may choose if you wish to unpack yourself or have that service attended to on your behalf. Can I suggest, some casual and some dressy......ooooo and comfortable shoes. I can't wait.

Jane10 Sat 25-Feb-17 13:17:35

Can I join you in Sainte Marie? I'm already worrying about what to wear.shock

Anniebach Sat 25-Feb-17 12:40:02

Kateykrunch, thank you, where is my map I need to find the Severn bridge

Kateykrunch Sat 25-Feb-17 11:11:18

Anniebach....not a problem, we will do a warm and sunny overseas and a quintessential English village, there will be more than 1 series of course!

Anniebach Sat 25-Feb-17 10:20:25

I would love to go with you, not going near a plane . If you switch the destination to Midsomer please allow me to join you. For me it would mean staying in another country smile

Kateykrunch Sat 25-Feb-17 10:10:17

YES!! I'll join you gillybob...I am so fed up of 'celebs' getting free experiences and I think it would me good to hear about 'real' people and how they get on. I also wouldn't mind being trained for free to dance, ice skate etc., etc., draw the line at ski jumping though and would love 6 weeks 'chilling' in the BBHouse. Can we do somewhere warm and sunny? Let me know when the first planning meeting is, looking forward to it already.

gillybob Sat 25-Feb-17 09:34:27

I'm up for somewhere exotic (after all the program will be paying for it) .
12 of us will meet at an airport (Newcastle would be most convenient for me ) and we will all wear a distinctive hat (so we know who we are) or perhaps we could have special GN luggage... Stamped with Gransnet on Tour !

Episode one..... On the plane.

Anyone else up for it?

Anniebach Fri 24-Feb-17 17:23:53

Midsomer is beautiful
