I found Bill Oddie..... Well quite Oddie DanniRae I'm not sure he brought anything to the group at all. I really liked the housekeeper lady she seemed a lovely person.
Working in someone else's home
Is anyone following the new series?
I watched on catch up last night and after only one episode Sheila Ferguson (one of the 3 degrees) is coming across as a right bossy boots and likes her own way. I am rather warming to Rusty Lee (who's laugh I used to find very irritating) and Amanda Barrie who seems to be quite down to earth. Blimey I was so disappointed to see how old Paul Nicolas looked, considering he was a bit of a heart throb back in the day. I am looking forward to seeing how this series goes.

I found Bill Oddie really endearing - he seems to live in his own little world and as long as there are birds and animals he is happy. Quite surprised, however, when he joined in with that strange game that he had been taken to.
I found the most annoying one to be Miriam Stoppard - she seemed to be acting all the time and her appearance was quite startling. But I liked her hair and couldn't work out if it was a wig? If it was it was a brilliant one.
He is Blue, he seems to be a very nice, happy kind of person. I liked Paul Nicholas too. Lionel Blair irritated me for similar reasons to Sheila Ferguson.
I m glad it's over, far too staged for me I think they should have stopped at one serious
Isn't it Dennis Taylor star bird
I would like a few handmade tunics.
I agree Chewy the date was so set up for the cameras.I found her needing affirmation for everything she did, and thought all the looking at an apartment there was just for show, it would be a far cry from living in a lovely old house and being waited on hand and foot, with a group of friendly celebs. Her daughter seemed nice and natural though.
Have to agree that, whilst this series was initially engaging, it began to bore me with the incessant droning on of Sheila Ferguson. I couldn't fathom out why she was considering moving from Majorca, to India, so that she could be closer to one of her daughters who lived in Dubai but would be further away from her other daughter in England.
As for "her first date", that just made me cringe.
How did I miss this thread?!
Am I too late to join one of the GN groups (preferably on Ste Marie but Midsomer will do).
My choice of Welsh companion would be Greg Davies (well, Welsh ancestry) - interesting and funny!
I missed some of the series but thought the last episode was very much about Sheila, Sheila, Sheila. Bill does seem rather odd and probably very difficult to live with but basically a nice man when he is not feeling ill. Lionel seems OK in small doses and Denis and Paul can come along too, as well as Rusty. Amanda can quietly sit in the corner if she likes.
Not India, thank you, although the hotel owner seemed a lovely person and quietly amused by them all.
Or "Elastic-Stockings-Are-Us" might be interested at sponsoring us!
I have just caught up with the last one in the series and really enjoyed it.
Overall my opinions didn't change very much. I still disliked Sheila Ferguson and Michael Jackson Miriam Stoppard. Warmed to Dennis Taylor who seemed like a nice man. Paul Nicolas and he seemed to get on like a house in fire. I also liked Rusty Lee Didn't like Lionel Blair very much.
I mentioned the Gransnet on Tour to DH last night and told him that I would be away for around a month and so would have to find a temp for work. He didn't bat an eyelid. So looks like it's on for me ladies. Now who to approach for sponsorship?
Tenna Lady? Yorkshire Tea? Marks and Spencer? Mr Kipling?
Oh Yes! roses I was also hoping that one of them (Amanda?) would take the darling little puppy home. I feel so sad to think of him waiting outside the gate for someone to feed him and they have all gone home
By the time it came out of quarantine it would no longer be a puppy though, and would be completely different...
Sad that it's ended now, really enjoyed this series, I hoped that one of the celebs would take the puppy home with them though.Indian people don't usually keep cats and dogs as pets.
I think Alex Taylor is a real sweetie, and enjoy the show for the places they visit.
I watched it really to see parts of India rather than for the celebs, although they did all seem to get on pretty well, on camera anyway. India is fascinating, I very much enjoyed the scenes shot there in the recent film "Lion" and there was a really good Indian film on Sunday evening called "The lunchbox". I'd recommend it if it's on Catch Up.
Danni agree the characters of the different celebs 'grew' on me.
Even the ones that I was not too keen on in the first episode.
I shall miss the series
My favourite was the lady that owned the house she seemed lovely
OMG just caught up with the final episode and I LOVED IT! I have enjoyed this series so much. If they do it again I wonder if they will manage to get a group of OAP celebs who get on as well as this lot did. Anyway, thanks to all of them for being so entertaining and endearingly honest.
I don't think Rusty is self obsessed but the rest I do agree and I also agree with you Printmiss I m bored with them all now in fact I found my concentration really dipping and am now watching because it's on I actually think it should have stayed as a one off They are mostly such divas that I find it a big turn off Individually they are probably all ok but put together the egos are too enormous
Jane of course, the editing always shows the worst/ cringeworthy/emotional etc bits as being more view worthy!
It's also obvious that quite a few things are 'set up' like the 'chance meeting' at the hair salon with the bride to be who then invites them all to the evening before wedding party. The BBC is held in high regard in India, and a mere sniff of the beeb cameras will bring out the cooperative side of the locals.
With the exception of Dennis, all the others seem to be amazingly self obsessed.
Oh by the way I'm up for the GN tour - home or away! Just put my name down and let me know where to meet. I won't be wearing shorts either - long or short - they are so unforgiving and not at all comfortable. It's sun dresses for me but only if we are in a hot country, of course!
The editing has a lot to answer for. It may be that the director will only choose the more 'extreme' bits which may emphasise aspects of the people in more unfavourable but arguably more 'interesting' moments?
What's wrong with acting like an overgrown child PRINTMISS? - much more fun than being sensible!
May I be forgiven for thinking they are all acting like overgrown children? I have become fed up with the series, apart from the information about the various Indian customs, and the beautiful colours/scenery.
I'm enjoying this series much more than the last one with the awful Miriam Margoyles farting her way through it.
I think it's Pauls wispy hair and receding gums that makes him look so old. He very big in theatre land I believe, as a producer or director.
Miriam Stoppard looks like a little plastic doll, and she comes across as being a bit childlike and helpless. Not at all the successful doctor and tv personality that she was.
Love the snooker chap, the locals loved his exhibition shots.
Sheila Ferguson? Dismissed her in episode one when she said 'I must have a balcony' then saw Bill had a better room and wanted that one instead.
Lionel might be on some medication, steroids perhaps as his face is also very puffy.
Unfortunatly age affect us all however much money we may have.

"How would retirement be for poorer oldies?"
I should think almost impossible unless you had family there.
I asked our son, who lives there, what will happen when they retires, because they're hard up and have no pension provision.
He said, we'll go and live with one of the children (they are bringing up 4 Indian children.) It's tradional for grown children to look after their parents.
