Len Deighton didn't write a follow-up book and according to the Telegraph this morning, no further series is planned.
DH and I enjoyed it, although he had to turn his hearing aids up. Did people really smoke so much, then?

Well, I just had to watch,because I was so confused. Not much better now, the dialogue could have been clearer and although I appreciate the 'darkness' was supposed to be atmospheric it was a little too black at times. I think perhaps my brain was just not in tune with what was supposed to be happening, but if there is another series I shall no doubt watch. Glutton for punishment.

I agree roses, Archer looks far too young at times, but dishy nonetheless.
I had problems with the dialogue, atmospheric it may be but I want to hear what is being said.

Ilovecheese the man was the young policeman who had been helping Archer look for the one armed resistance man ( they found his house and went through his things.)
They killed the young policeman and hung him in Archers old bombed out house as a message to Archer.
I am just managing to hear Archer, he does have a raspy voice, the old Scots sergeant is totally 'scrambled' I only get the odd word here and there, but everyone else is clear as a bell( even with German accents!)Especially Huth the SS man, who speaks very clearly.
It's very atmospheric, but I agree with the poster who says that the actor playing Archer is not right for the part, it needs someone who looks older, in some shots he looks about 25.

I will keep trying as I found the book a good read (can't say enjoy, I seems inappropriate) but I find this too dark and too tidy. The people in it have just lost a war but they look so neat. I do find the now standard mumble stops me getting involved too.

Can anyone tell me who was the man who had been killed in the detective's bombed out house?

Watched this with great anticipation but seriously disappointed. Do not like the actor playing male lead ( Sam Riley?), do not find him credible as a very senior detective. I get seriously irritated by the way he whispers everything, not bceause I can't hear it, I can, but because nobody talks like that, all husky whispers. I can hear the other actors ok. I think I was expecting an older, more rugged looking actor as the lead, maybe I have got an ideal picture in my mind, someone like Ken Stott as Rebus perhaps. Sam Riley just looks too young, and not credible as part of this underground old boys network that appeared in this week's episode.

I often find subtitles dissapear too quickly to read and digest properly. So we won't bother again.

I enjoyed this enormously, but it is following the trend for filming everything in half- light or even total darkness. For minutes at a time, the screen was dark, and faces emerged from the gloom. All very sinister of course, but tricky when everyone is wearing uniform, or dark evening dress.

Yes, roses, Dominion, I enjoyed that. Never read any Len Deighton. As DH likes him always thought they would be too spy like for me.

I think it is excellent - and for those recording - the sound is definately better.

Having another go with it. The lead actor reminds me so much of Simon Williams in Upstairs Downstairs I can barely concentrate.

It's something that we cannot know, but we would like to think so.I thought the first episode was very good, am recording a few together then we can have a marathon binge on it.The sound wasn't great, but they have promised to tweak that for the next episode, hope they do.This is based on the Len Deighton book, but I liked the ( similar) book by CJ Sansom better.

found it a bit slow last week I'll stick with it and see how it developes,so far its a poor imitation of The Man In The High Castle
