Mind the age gap

Such a shame, great idea, could've been an informative and educational programme.

There are 12 people in the house but we are really only seeing about five of them and last night I just got so fed up with the same people talking about the same thing.

It's not just young people that seem to lack the most basic general knowledge.

I know it seems quite trivial in the grand scheme of things but Elegran's example of the events viewers see in Come Dine with Me are not representative of what really happens on these high manipulative programmes makes you wonder how many other things we see are distorted.

The reality programme makers shoot vast amounts, then edit it to get the effect they want. They keep in controversial and extreme remarks, even if they are throwaway asides, and discard all the ordinary exchanges. I know someone who was on "Come Dine With Me" - everything was filmed again and again until the early hours, when they were all so tired they didn't know what they were saying and the food was cold and unappetising. He over-reacted a bit explosively to some horrible plonk (probably sneaked in by the production team) - guess which shot was shown again and again at the start of each episode?

I agree though, but since it was all being analysed ( off camera) I thought a better mix of people was needed.

TV programmes and their participants are chosen for their entertainment value, not because anything they say is representative of their demographic. What they say is then heavily edited to meet the programme makers requirements from the programme.

I was once on a television programme and was startled just how much of what I said was edited to meet what the programme makers wanted rather than what I said.

Forgot to say, the only likeable one of all of them was one of the retired police officers.The other was a bit of an idiot.The two older women were unlikeable as well.

I watched it, but won't be watching again! The demographic is all wrong.
Three gay men? Two retired police officers in their 60's? Why not have a more diverse group?
The only things of interest were 1) the younger members of the group were polite to the older ones when all were together 2) none of the younger ones had ever heard of Angela Merkel ( they were not teenagers but in their twenties) 3) the language used by the younger members when they were on their own!
4) the younger members seemed like self obsessed shallow teenagers.

Yes totally agree with you Tanith it was surprising how some of the 'older' group responded to some of the other residents especially the retired Police Inspector and his admission that he "hadn't really lied in court." Disgraceful.

I watched and found each age group worried me with some of the statements they made. I think the maker's chose the candidates carefully knowing there would be seriously conflicting points of view thus making 'good' viewing. Not sure I'll bother watching anymore.

I didn't see it but I find that worrying and also rather sad.
Those 27-30 yr olds are responsible for the next generation
