I understand your reliance on R4. When we are at our house in France we rely on R4 on LW. As a result my existing dislike of cricket has become a deep, deep loathing as I turn the radio on for news or company and find that all I get is the ball by ball cricket commentary.

What kind of radio do you have, felice, and where do you live?
We are in France and have an internet radio, Roberts make.
You have to have some kind of electronic device plugged in somewhere else, you can even get reception outside with that.
Most UK programmes, ours is set to Radio4, LBC, Radio3, Classc FM and Radio4 extra. But you can get others. Not telling husband about the cricket chanel MOnica, he watches enough on tele.

We have a Roberts internet radio which is generally very good. It works on the wifi so could be used anywhere in the house you get the signal - we have ours in the bedroom. I am working on getting another one for use downstairs as I find I really don't like having the radio coming through the TV! That is something you could try though if you have a Sky or Humax box - we can get the radio programmes on both of those.

Our house in France is a holiday home and we visit regularly but for relatively short periods. We decided to have a satellite fitted for internet reception as our landline is very unreliable, and mobile reception poor - well, it is a holiday home.

However because our presence is so intermittent and satellite is expensive, we have the cheapest satellite package, which is fairly limited, but adequate for email and surfing, but not downloading films, or many hours of radio listening, hence the reliance on long wave for radio reception.
