New Bake Off, tonight's the night.

We watched it an hour late having recorded it to avoid the adverts. Quite happy with it and shall continue to watch.
I liked Neil Feildings voice but thought he seemed very uncomfortable.

I don't arched with 11 year old DGD 1 ( who loves It) Like you Kittye We preferred Prue To Mary too. We both liked Mel and Sue and didn't want to like Sandi and Noel but we both enjoyed watching them and though they did a good job . DGD has already picked her winner !

Thoroughly enjoyed it. Preferred Prue to Mary. I thought Sandi and Noel did a good job, and what a nice lot the bakers are. Must make sure I set my recorder before I go on holiday.

I have just watched it and really enjoyed it . I'm not sure why I'm surprised I enjoyed it as I never liked Mary Berry or Mel and Sue. Already knew Noel from some other show and always have liked Sandi , love her wit.
Mary was too old school for me .
Roll on next week I say and let's see how the few bakers who are already standing out from the rest get on . Thought the wrong person went home already . Should have been the black handbag girl ,everything she did was a mess.

I'll have to try to watch it. We can't always get BBC4.
I've never missed a programme before, but I've always been more interested in the baking than in the presenters.

I thought it was very good and didn't even mind the ads as they seemed to break up the various segments quite nicely. If only i could bake like them. That watermelon cake and the sandwich were brilliant.

I am a big fan of Noel Fielding and I thought he was wonderful. (Discovered the Mighty Boosh years ago and loved it.) He is without ego and gently silly. Must admit I did not like Mel and Sue (they were so irritating!) and the pairing of Sandi and Noel as much better. I find Sandi very warm, her intellect is beyond question and she is lovely with people. What a surprising but good pairing. They work well together.

I have to say I didn't like the sainted Mary Berry either and much prefer Prue Leith's more direct and less fussy delivery. (I didn't like the BBC's Bake Off team at all. ) Paul Hollywood was ok in this - minimal smarm from him, so all in all, I thought it was a great start.

The old Bake Off won't be missed at all, imo.

Sandi and Noel need to relax and be their natural easy selves, seemed to be preparing for a backlash but I guess that was to be expected. Generally fine, glad they didn't change format

I too was prepared to dislike it but really enjoyed the show despite the adverts! Personally I think they could have managed without the ego that is Paul Hollywood ...... (?)

Two 'Hollywood handshakes' in the first show! I thought the standard was quite high for most.

I enjoyed it and used the ad breaks to nip out for a cuppa.
The judging seemed a bit rushed but maybe that's because there are a lot to judge at the beginning.
Will be recording future programmes.

I love Sandi Toksvig. She's very clever and has a dry wit which she can't use on this programme but works very well on QI.

I only watched a small portion of it but might catch up with the rest on line. My son introduced me to Noel Fielding a few years ago when he was in the Mighty Boosh, so I already liked him and thought he came across quite well, inspite of this type of programme not being his forte. Didn't miss Mel and Sue at all, found them very irritating and not at all funny. Possibly they are both better when they are unpaired. Not keen on Sandi Toksvig either. Prue Leith's a very experienced cook but I'd got used to Mary's delivery, but I suppose we need to give them all a bit of time to fill the vacant boots. At least they retained Paul Hollywood. The adverts are a major downside, I'll record Bake Off next week so I can skip them.

Am I the only one who likes adverts? Chance to pop to the loo, get a drink or some (crisps) fruit to munch or feed the cat?

I enjoyed it a lot but will only watch it with out the blessed adverts in the future.

I liked Sandi Toksvig and Prue Leith before but was surprised to find that I warmed towards Noel Fielding.

Enjoyed it, recorded with the adverts on fast forward. Thought the interaction was just right, not too intrusive and fairly relaxed. Will keep watching if the subsequent episodes have the same 'feel'.

I enjoyed it! I really wasn't expecting too, I don't like Sandi Toksvig as a comedienne, I hope she continues to restrain herself!

I was absolutely prepared to hate it; I don't usually like Sandi Toksvig or Noel Fielding. But lo and behold, they were charming and warm, Prue was her lovely self and Paul Hollywood was Paul Hollywood. There was plenty of interaction between the judges/presenters and the contestants and it all seemed rather joyful. So all in all well done C4, I really liked it and will be happily tuning in for the next however many weeks.

good reviews and a lot of talented bakers .I've always been Pru Leith fan so I'm happy to see her here ,she's not the homey Mary Berry type but you have to remember she has run a fantastic cookery school for decades and written fantastic books so she's well qualified for the job

Jane10, I recently watched the very first Bake Off show, and they took the tent all around the UK to film, so when they decided on a permanent site for the next series, I suppose they wanted their money's worth!

Me too. I quite enjoyed it. Nice bunch of bakers. Prue was OK.
I suddenly thought - why are they having to bake in a tent? I know they always did but it's intrinsically daft. Oh well.

I was pleasantly surprised. It was near enough to the old format to keep me watching. I too recorded it to skip adverts.

Tch ... soooo many adverts. But lots to enjoy ...
