Strictly's Back

I've just looked at the Strictly line up and wonder if I don't watch enough TV. Who ARE these 'celebrities'? On the picture grid I recognised 3 faces and one extra with a nudge from my OH. I could name only one off the top of my head, but another one because I'd just read about them in an article about Strictly where they were arguing about whether a gay woman should dance with a woman. (She didn't want to; she said she was there to learn to dance, not to make a point about her sexuality, but felt there was pressure on her from the LBTG group.)

I can't say I pay much attention to the lyrics on strictly.
I'm to engrossed in the dancing.

On Strictly tonight ( the musicals) some of the lyrics of the songs were changed from the originals or did my ears deceive? I'm relatively new to Strictly but is this normal?

Another Debbie fan here. I’ve heard she works out every day and at her age (59) that certainly shows. Good luck to her. She’s had a lot of nasty, bitchy publicity (eg Mrs Merton) which wasn’t deserved.

I actually don't mind Debbie and look forward to her dance.....but I do think they need to cut down on the amount of splits she does now.....

I think Davood and Joe have done brilliantly seeing as they haven't danced before, whilst Mollie and Gemma continue to improve. I think they'll go out though, before the final. I hope Davood and Joe make it to the final. I do hope that we don't see both Alexandra and Debbie in the final. That wouldn't be fair in the spirit of the show, would it?

DanniRae Tue 28-Nov-17 08:34:36

My vote in the final would be for Molly or Gemma (if they get that far of course).

suzied Tue 28-Nov-17 07:50:06

I bet in the final Joe or Davood wins. Most people who vote are women and in the final tend to vote for who they think deserves to win , which is often the one without any previous dance training, like Ore last year.

I really don't mind that there are different levels of experience amongst the dancers, it makes for an interesting show, but my preference would be to vote for the most improved dancers and those with entertaining personalities. I find the professionals seem (I don't know if it's so of course) to want to win more than to enjoy the dancing.

callgirl1 Mon 27-Nov-17 21:19:43

It`s about time that it was a more level playing field, it was pretty much when it first started.

Overthehills Mon 27-Nov-17 20:47:30

Hear hear, Trisher!

trisher Mon 27-Nov-17 12:21:55

So is it OK that someone with professional dance training competes against complete beginners? I can't think of any other competetive events where that would happen. If you've gone professional you are a seperate category.

ninathenana Mon 27-Nov-17 11:31:27

Davood has no experience at all merlot and think your right Joe dosen't either.

eazybee Mon 27-Nov-17 11:02:53

So silly! There was me thinking 'Strictly'was a dance competition, when obviously it is a personality contest.
That explains why talented dancers are voted off too early, while hoofers like Mollie and Gemma, with their flat feet, soup ladle hands, lack of timing , but a good line in gush, survive.
I am sorry Susan has gone; she had excellent timing, very neat footwork, good presence and rarely made a mistake.

merlotgran Mon 27-Nov-17 10:47:23

I would love Joe to win because isn't he the one with no dancing experience at all?

I would like to see Debbie in the final though. How nice that she now has her own identity rather than just the wife of the millionaire Paul Daniels grin

annodomini Mon 27-Nov-17 10:07:26

It was inevitable that Susan would leave last night but they lasted much longer than they had expected, largely because viewers took to her personality, although her dancing improved enormously during the course of the contest. It's people like her that make the show worth watching. Joe is my favourite now. His cheerful personality and his creative interpretation of the choreography make him a front-runner for me.

I was sorry to see Susan go but probably was her turn. She was right though, she had no chance against Alexandra in the dance off.
What a lovely person she seems. My daughter read her book and she's apparently very sensitive. That did come over when she was talking to the judges etc.

Susan and Kevin are going on the Strictly Live Tour ?

Overthehills Sun 26-Nov-17 21:48:40

As with some others I really can’t take to Alexandra or Debbie - they don’t come across as genuine somehow. So sad to see Susan go, she is what Strictly is all about for me.

Maggiemaybe Sun 26-Nov-17 21:38:01

It was definitely the right decision - Susan's time had run out. But I really will miss her!

grannyactivist Sun 26-Nov-17 21:31:53

Who could fail to be moved by Susan and Kevin during their 'thank you' speeches this evening? They were both excellent ambassadors for dance and the joy it can bring.

Charleygirl Sun 26-Nov-17 21:10:24

callgirl unfortunately I think that you are correct.

It was lovely to hear this evening that Susan and Kevin are continuing to be friends and she will also continue learning to dance with him. I will miss her humour.

callgirl1 Sun 26-Nov-17 21:04:31

I`d like to see Joe, Davood and Gemma in the final, but it`s getting fairly obvious that Alexandra and Debbie will take 2 of the places.

cornergran Sun 26-Nov-17 20:18:17

Yes, I agree. Susan had come to the end of her ability but she seems a thoroughly nice person determined to enjoy the experience. I will miss her. I can’t take to Alexandra or Debbie, I’m struggling to find the real person under the dancing and acting ability.

kittylester Sun 26-Nov-17 20:10:45

Obviously, the right result but so sad to lose Susan and be left with Alexandra.

Deedaa Sun 26-Nov-17 20:08:10

I've really enjoyed Susan's dances, you could see she was having such fun. I couldn't believe all the fuss about why wasn't she dancing with another woman. Why shouldn't she dress up and dance with a man? Did they think she should be tramping round the dance floor in dungarees?
