I've just looked at the Strictly line up and wonder if I don't watch enough TV. Who ARE these 'celebrities'? On the picture grid I recognised 3 faces and one extra with a nudge from my OH. I could name only one off the top of my head, but another one because I'd just read about them in an article about Strictly where they were arguing about whether a gay woman should dance with a woman. (She didn't want to; she said she was there to learn to dance, not to make a point about her sexuality, but felt there was pressure on her from the LBTG group.)

I don't gamble so don't do the lottery Terri, but if? ?

Did anyone else think that the Rev. Richard`s performance this week was reminiscent of John Sargent`s pasa doble, as re the stomping across the floor?

Charleygirl Sun 08-Oct-17 21:33:42

I think that the correct person went out tonight.

I have no idea who Aston is but he is a very good dancer and is quite likely to win the competition. I really enjoyed watching him last night.

Has Strictly outlived its entertainment value?

Like Masterchef, Bake Off, Location, Location, even Antiques Roadshow, and other shows which started so well, I fear they may have morphed into a formulaic caricature of themselves.

I'm finding this series hard going. Its recorded and then a lot can be missed out Not something I've wanted to do before. Maybe as the contestants reduce it will be more interesting. Anyone else think there's an awkwardness between the judges? Still, I do think the right one left this week.

paddyann Sun 08-Oct-17 22:21:00

I watch the Australian Masterchef ,its a far superior format and has the most talented cooks I've seen on any cooking competition...even the judges are better .Its on W channel thats 109 on Sky every evening .well worth watching

Smithy Sun 08-Oct-17 22:34:04

I believe Aston used to be in the boy band JLS, who were on X factor but didn't win. (Just read that, never watched xfactor)
Agree the right dancer left tonight. New series just isn't grabbing me as yet. I'm getting the females mixed up.

I've always liked Joe McFadden and loved his Viennese waltz.
The rev had to go.
Enjoying the series so far and DGD thoroughly enjoyed the Disney dance.
Also looking forward to return of Dancing on Ice.

I used to be a huge strictly fan ..cant even be botheted to watch it this series

merlotgran Mon 09-Oct-17 13:45:03

I watch the Saturday night show but I can't be bothered with the Sunday results now.

I can check in here to see who's out.

Deedaa Mon 09-Oct-17 21:36:00

I think the great thing about Aston is the eye contact he maintains with his partner and the way they look as if they've got a real relationship. It's something even the best dancers have problems with sometimes.

Jane10 Sat 14-Oct-17 19:50:53

The person I'm most impressed with so far is Shirley Ballast. She's giving such detailed and technical feedback compared to old Len's 'pickle my walnuts' type responses to dancers.

AyjayF Sat 14-Oct-17 20:53:42

Susan Calman is brilliant. That routine this evening was fabulous

Alima Sat 14-Oct-17 21:35:12

Agree AyjayF, her routine was sheer joy.

Charleygirl Sat 14-Oct-17 21:51:44

I have no idea who will go out because I did not think that anybody was that awful.

Jane10 Sat 14-Oct-17 22:07:05

Susan Calman's dance was just sheer pleasure to watch. She should win the whole series for it. Just uplifting! sunshine

callgirl1 Sat 14-Oct-17 22:56:40

Nobody was particularly bad tonight, but the poorest was Simon Rimmer, but that`s just my opinion.

Moocow Sun 15-Oct-17 09:07:58

I agree calgirl1

Think they need to split those who have never danced before from those who have and make it a fair competition now. I enjoy the good dancers but seeing improvement fromnon dancers would make it a real competition and show what a good choreographer can do too. Cut out out the silly pre dance chat too while there are too many to watch in the early stages. There you go BBC you don't need highly paid consultants just to read GN!

Charleygirl Sun 15-Oct-17 09:15:05

Moocow if there was not the pre dance chat when would I be able to make a cup of coffee or nip to the loo?! I do not like the start because for me it is too long.

Sparklefizz Sun 15-Oct-17 09:20:02

I'm loving this series as much as I loved the previous ones. I find it uplifting and joyful. I agree with Jane10, I think Shirley Ballas is doing a very good job, much better than grumpy Len with his insincere smile. I've revised my opinion of Debbie McGee as a person, and thought she was very good last night. I felt the judges were marking her down because she was awarded a couple of 6s and then that mark was given to someone else (can't remember who), who wasn't nearly as good. I have got to know Susan Calman and think she's lovely, and I love Kevin, and thoroughly enjoyed their routine last night. But Alexandra Burke was absolutely fantastic, really thrilling to watch, I thought, although there's something about her I don't like (don't know what it is, but there's "something")

I agree, Moocow, cut out all that silly pre-dance chat, also Claudia's so-called comedy with Tess. Claudia is quick-witted and quite funny when talking to the dancers, but the repartee with Tess is excruciating.

Will Simon Rimmer go?

Sparklefizz Sun 15-Oct-17 09:22:56

Also, is it just me being curmudgeonly (sp?) or is anyone else irritated by all the teeth with Mollie King and AJ?

Charleygirl Sun 15-Oct-17 09:28:14

Sparklefizz I agree, Alexandra Burke is a really good dancer and appears to be able to dance anything to perfection. I also think that she may possibly win the show. I also do not like her and I have no idea why- just that "something".

I am warming more to Debbie McGee- for her age she is so lithe.

I do like Aston and think that he may be one of the possible winners. I still have no idea who he is but he appears to have a pleasant personality and is a very good dancer.

ninathenana Sun 15-Oct-17 09:35:16

I appreciate the advice and critique from Shirley but I imagine the professionaly have to explain a lot of what she's saying to the contestants, sonetimes she gets a bit to technical I certainly don't know the names of moves.

Smithy Sun 15-Oct-17 09:37:41

I mentioned in an earlier post C.harleygirl, Aston Merrigold used to be in boy band JLS, which originated from X Factor. He's very good.

Charleygirl Sun 15-Oct-17 09:39:46

Thanks Smithy my memory is failing I think. He is a good dancer and appears to have a lovely personality.
