I really liked it. Sarah Lancaster is a likeable, flawed character. Reminds me of my social worker sister.
At the start I thought the accents sounded like Bristol/West Country before I was aware of where it was set.
I thought they went a bit OTT with the graffiti to make sure we knew it was Banksy country. It's not everywhere in Bristol and definitely not at that motorway junction!
Lots of interesting (and heartbreaking) themes here. A must watch.

Looks promising, Sarah L. Is a brilliant actress as is Suranne Jones also from Corrie.
I too struggled with the volume, thought it was my ancient TV but chatting to DD who has an all singing all dancing set with a fancy surround sound, she too had to keep turning up the volume.

That connected with me too Callgirl I think he said something like “ they chose her but they just got me” I ve never really thought a birth child might think like that you always hear it the other way round don’t you ?

I keep thinking about the foster parents` teenage son, who told the social worker that he`d heard his parents say they loved Kiri more than they loved him.

I agree Lazigirl the writer is trying to portray a flawed social worker, with a good heart I think but human and engaging. So often for social workers its a case of damned if they do and damned if they don't.

Don't be put off Jalima. Although I was critical it's a very brave attempt at portraying the difficult life of a social worker who is flawed and who will always be wrong in the eyes of the public. It is a drama after all so have to allow them a bit of slack. Apparently the same writer intends writing a drama about Grenfell Tower.

Oh dear, I thought I was going to enjoy this tonight but perhaps I will be picking out all the faults instead now!

Why does she have to have a Bristol accent anyway, even if it's set there - people do move around the country for work and don't always lose their original accents.

I thought Sarah Lancashire was a strange social worker with no boundaries walking into the prosepective adoptive parents house and telling the mother to get out the way while she charged upstairs to get the child When Kiri started a nose bleed in the car she just brushed it aside as a ‘ wipe it with your tissue’ attitude ...but that’s the writers interpretation not Sarah Lancashire but she dies seems a very unconventional social worker

Really enjoyed it except had to turn the sound up all the time. Sue Johnson was good as the mother. Her dark face with the bright lipstick was quite creepy.

Is it just me? I think Sarah Lancashire is a brilliant actor and thought she was perfect in Happy Valley and Last Tango in Halifax, but was very disappointed with the first episode of Kiri. Her accent is so bad it was hard to hear what she was saying at times, and for a very sensitive storyline it started off as almost a comedy. I will watch next episode and see if it improves.

Sarah Lancashire is good so I recorded it as it looked very promising.

I have just watched this and think it is very good. Sarah Lancashire has been wonderful in every programme she has been in. Loved her as Raquel in Corrie.

Loved it, eagerly awaiting the next episode.

She is such a good actress and HB I'm sure her pal will rescue the dog to do his business and go indoors .
I also think the assumption the father is responsible wrong and we are in for a really good story.

Don't tell me I've saved it to watch at the weekend.

Ayjay Have to agree about the accents - although Sarah Lancashire was pretty close. Being a Bristolian I found myself looking at the backgrounds to see if I could recognise where they were!

The acting was excellent. A great cast + gripping story.

I forgot to watch and will catch up today. BlueBelle, there's an old social work tradition of the office dog. I suspect it's not as common a feature these days but offices I've worked in have definitely benefited from a regular dog. The dogs simply lie under their owners desk, unless they're called on to offer a bit of therapy to visiting children or exhausted colleagues.

I enjoy everything Sarah Lancashire does and this was no exception. good story, the drink driving thing showed someone warts and all I thought.
I felt like you about the poor dog Humbertbear.

Channel 4 last night. It was very good. Sarah Lancashire was excellent but can’t believe her dog is trapped in the car till next week.

Whoops pressed the button too soon I felt there was some gaps in the writing because when she first went to the foster parents home and barged in I actually thought she was walking into her own home as she was so familiar I think a better lead up to where they had reached that stage would have been helpful and would a dog really be allowed to sit in her office ???
