I love it, I enjoyed last nights start to the new series. Any other call the midwife fans here ?

I usually enjoy the programme, but this series has had too many sad episodes. So many deaths makes it very distressing for people recently bereaved, it has caused real distress to a relative. I know it is only a programme but is it really Sunday night entertainment.

Even DH was blowing his nose noisily at the end. Linda Bassett is wonderful in it.

Oh that's awful ninathenana but it's still definitely worth watching.
The acting is so understated that it gets such a powerful message across. This programme is definitely a contender for a television award.

I've not read any posts about last nights episode and was avoiding the thread until I watch my recording this afternoon.
I opened the paper a few minutes ago and there's a full page article telling me just what I was avoiding finding out gggggrrrrr !!

But life is like that, it is a community not one family, would have been boring if the hour was only of Barbara dying

I like a good weepie as well. Last night's episode was excellent I thought, Phyllis was portrayed so well. Think you are out voted Grandma70 I agree there were a lot of themes going on though.

Grandma70s Mon 05-Mar-18 08:15:06

I seem to be a lone voice, but I didn’t feel involved last night. I was just too aware all the time of how the writers were manipulating our emotions, and how they were thinking of different ways of writing characters out. There seemed too many themes going on at once, so it was rather bitty. Perhaps I was just in the wrong mood.

I just knew, when she’d rallied midway through the programme, that she’d have a relapse by the end. sad What an episode - the story of the bullied young dad who wouldn’t be going home for three years was sad too.

I always watch it with my two daughters. We were all crying. my eldest daughter said she was going to bed now properly depressed.

kittylester Mon 05-Mar-18 07:39:23

Wasn't it sad?

I wondered, last week, about the chance of Tom and Trixie getting back together but then Barbara rallied and I thought I had it wrong.

Eloethan Mon 05-Mar-18 00:58:52

It was very upsetting tonight.

So sad, I shouldn`t have watched really, it brought back too many memories, but I love the programme. Poor Tom and Phyllis.

Jalima1108 Sun 04-Mar-18 23:11:38

Oh dear. so sad. I thought that Tom and Barbara were so well suited (the characters of course - I know that Jack and Helen are a couple in RL).
sad sad sad

I’m in the same state as you Auntiflo with a sore throat from trying not to cry, problem is I’ve been feeling a bit low and needed cheering up, this didn’t do it.

appygran Sun 04-Mar-18 22:35:18

Needed a good cry tonight. That did it

Auntieflo Sun 04-Mar-18 22:27:26

Choked. So sad, and so well done. Have got a sore throat from holding the tears back.

cornergran Sun 04-Mar-18 22:14:18

Yes, very sad. Two people with tears here.

Bellanonna Sun 04-Mar-18 22:12:43

??

MawBroon Sun 04-Mar-18 22:08:41

So was I.
So sad. ??

Bathsheba Sun 04-Mar-18 22:04:18

Lindy my DD said exactly that that last week when Barbara was first taken ill. Tonight, as she rallied, and Tom talked to her about starting a family, I began to think she would recover but be told she’d never have children. But what a cruel false dawn that turned out to be. I was in pieces when Phyllis took over from Tom with the 23rd Psalm ???

SueDonim Sun 04-Mar-18 21:48:57

I wondered about that, Lindy.

seacliff Sun 04-Mar-18 21:45:46

So sad.

Mary59nana Sun 04-Mar-18 21:45:30

I love that idea Lindylou51

Lindylou51 Sun 04-Mar-18 21:41:58

Could tonight's sad episode pave the way for Tom and Trixie to be reacquainted in the next series?

Anniebach Sun 04-Mar-18 21:33:51

How cruel , poor Phyllis , I wanted to hold her ?
