I loved the houses in Phantom Threads , The Minaturist and Wallace and Gromit ! I would live happily in any one of them .

Any of the lovely pared-down Scandinavian places in the original,"Wallander" That's what Ikea thinks it looks like. Clean, starkly simple-beautiful !

I agree with Musicelf I seem to agree with everyone, perhaps I should be a housesitter!

Downton Abbey for me not as a servant I hasten to add grin.

Always dreamed of owning a thatched cottage but that's not going to happen. At least living in Devon there are lots to admiresmile.

On the other hand I would hate to have to live in that house in this weeks Silent Witness!

Doc Martin's house in Port Isaac.

The shack on the beach on Death in Paradise

I wouldn't mind Bingley's house in 'Pride and Prejudice'. It is actually Basildon Park in Berkshire and I visit it quite often. I used to have a friend who visited National Trust properties and would say, 'It's lovely but I couldn't live here.' I, on the other hand, would have no problem trading up.

Any film set in Sri Lanka

Not a film but a Netflix series, the beach house in Grace & Frankie, can I go a bit further & say I would also love Frankie’s clothes & jewellery & also to be able to paint in her studio! ?

Downton complete with butlers, housemaids etc.
I do tend to suffer grin delusions of grandeur.

Mary Berry's, Ina Garten's (Barefoot Contessa) or the house of a book publisher I worked for in Islington, part of which was used for a film...although I can't remember the name.

I read all these and every time thought, "Ooh, yes!" So many lovely places, I couldn't choose.

Plenty of real thatched cottages here Orange ?

Orange123 Wed 07-Feb-18 14:28:37

Jordan... aww...I kind of figured that. In America we like to think that outside London everyone lives in a tiny thatched cottage like that. ? Don't burst my bubble by saying it's not so.

That house in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers - all that happiness (eventually), gingham and sewing.

Auntieflo Wed 07-Feb-18 12:03:12

Montalbano's Sicilian house by the sea will suit me fine thanks. But I also fancy Nigel Slater's kitchen and garden.

Unfortunately the cottage in the "holiday" was a mock up and specially built for the film

I would love to live in the house the Larkins live in as i love The Darling Buds of May.I would only want to live there if Ma and Pa Larkins where there too, they both are such fun and always have adventures!!!

Orange123 Tue 06-Feb-18 21:03:16

Oh the name of the movie is The Holiday.

Orange123 Tue 06-Feb-18 21:02:20

I'd like to live in the cottage in England that Kate Winslet trades to Cameron Diaz for her mansion in L.A. I'm pretty sure that cottage doesn't really exist but I can dream, right?

Smithy Tue 06-Feb-18 20:43:09

Ah, forgot about that one, HildaJ! I'd like to move in there permanently! Marydoll, I bet it costs a fortune to rent, if that's true.

Marydoll Tue 06-Feb-18 20:26:49

The same as you, hildajenniJ, Inspector Montalbano's Sicilian house overlooking the beach.
I believe you can actually rent it as a holiday home.

Menopaws Tue 06-Feb-18 20:20:39

Oh yes St Marie for me too or Mcgarretts house on Hawaii five o

hildajenniJ Tue 06-Feb-18 19:56:56

Inspector Mooney's beach side shack bungalow on St. Marie. If not that, then Inspector Montalbano's house on Sicily.
Oh I do love to be beside the seaside!!!
