Everywhere on social media you see complaints of bias by the BBC.

This link shows one area of absolute bias. No argument whatsoever

I don't watch the BBC News any more. Far too biased and limited in scope. Channel 4 News is much better, although I had issues with an item a couple of weeks ago. And as for QT! Most of the women on the panel are horrendous!
What has happened to the BBC? Just Govt. lapdogs now?

Point well made varian

I don't know how many of you read my last post on this thread and thought "I've never heard of Graham Watson ."

The point is you might never have heard of Nigel Farage had it not been for the hours of free publicity over twenty years that Farage had on umpteen occasions from the BBC and Graham Watson never had, except for the odd appearance in the Sunday Politics in the SW.

I am presuming that most posters feel that the BBC is biased towards favouring Brexit?
Surely Laura Kuenssberg is doing her best to redress the balance?

John Humphrey’s on R4 this morning

“Austerity started 2 years ago and is going better than expected”

It actually started in 2010, was meant to end in 2015, now won’t end until at least 2022. The national debt has trebled in 8 years.

No clarification or correction was forthcoming.

Presenters are not there to give their opinion.

I don't see BBC as a serious news medium anymore, but more of an entertainment show, inviting the most controversial politicians onto so called news/discussion progs who "perform" to an audience, providing catchy sound bites. Not much serious discussion or challenge goes on.

Some years ago I heard Graham Watson speaking about Europe. He was a Member of the European Parliament for South West England from 1994 until 2014 and was the leader of the Group of the European Liberal Democrat and Reform Party 2002–2004 and the first leader of the Group of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe 2004–2009, the position now held by Guy Verhofstadt.

Graham is an accomplished linguist, fluent in four European languages; and a brilliant speaker, erudite and witty. After his speech he was asked why he had never been on Question Time and he said "the BBC won't allow any MEP to be on Question Time - except Nigel Farage".

Since then the BBC has invited the likes of Paul Nuttall and Daniel Hannan as well as Farage - but still no Liberal Democrats, no Labour, no SNP, no Plaid Cymru, no Green and not even another Tory except Hannan.

And yet lemongrove tells us -"I don’t go along with all this ‘the BBC is biased’ stuff. I think people see what they want to see, and if it doesn’t accord with what they themselves think, they think it’s unfair."

If people like Graham Watson had been on QT all these times instead of Farage, it could have made a significant difference to the outcome of the referendum and we might not be in this mess. The BBC has a lot to answer for.

We have 2 excellent SNP MEPs, neither of whom has ever been on question time. This annoys me no end but I suppose that Labour and Liberal supporters have even more reason to complain about the lack of balance.

The OP's link shows that in thè last five years there have been 35 appearances by MEPs on BBC Question Time. Out of the 35 no less than 33 were UKIP MEPs and the other 2 pro-brexit Conservative.

Anyone who sees these figures and still does not believe this is evidence of BBC bias needs to ask what she would think if all 35 had been ardent Remainers.

I watched the whole programme. It became clear towards the end.
I think Radzi was taking a balanced approach to the discussion.

varian Fri 02-Mar-18 20:50:01

If Radzi was not leaver he gave a very good impression of onel

fiorentina51 Fri 02-Mar-18 20:34:30

I watched QT last night and you're right Petra. There were 3 remainers and 2 leavers. Go to top of class. ?

petra Fri 02-Mar-18 20:22:09

I think John Humphreys hatred of the eu stems from the fact that his son has lived in Greece for many years and he knows exactly how the eu screwed the Greeks by letting join when they knew they (the Greeks) were lying about their finances and couldn't survive and then proceeded to crucify them when they failed.

petra Fri 02-Mar-18 20:07:02

Varian
Farage and two other leavers
Farage. Leave.
Michelle Dewbury. Leave.
Ken Clarke. Remain.
Owen Smith. Remain.
Radzi Chanyanganya. Remain.
I make that 3-2. But there again maths was never my strong point.

janeainsworth Fri 02-Mar-18 14:33:02

You should ty listening to Young Dimbleby on a
Any Questions. He overspeaks anyone who does not fit his ideal, so rude and overbearing.

God knows why that lot are so favoured, and presumably overpaid,

To add insult to injury the prog is repeated Sat lunch time

I have lost trust in the BBCs reporting now because of bias, and really only watch their dramas which I think generally are good. I like Channel 4 News (which clashes with the Archers sad ) but quite like ITV News at 10, as am a bit of a fan of Tom Bradbury who I think is a great presenter. I agree that most mainstream media is biased, and I guess it is easy to watch/read/listen to that which agrees with your own viewpoint, and just reinforces it.
