Is anybody else eagerly awaiting the finale next week?
My guess is that Duncan is Alan's father and that's why he doesn't want his daughter striking up a relationship with his daughter

Hadn’t thought of that one!
I think the scarf will link him somehow to the earlier killing.

Jalima1108 Wed 14-Mar-18 17:59:38

I didn't think of that either

But it was Lizzie that Duncan was flirting with, not the mother of Alan, or have I missed something?

I've got a bit confused - is Perez the father and Duncan the step-father anyway?

I don't think it's Duncan.

Welshwife Wed 14-Mar-18 18:25:07

I think that is the way round with her parentage Jalima.
I assume the woman he lives with is a second wife or a girlfriend as I think her mother died some time ago.
I see what you are saying about Alan - but maybe Lizzie’s twin was very free with her affections and he could not tell the difference!

I didn’t like Lars from the start but even less so when he arrived on Shetland last week.

Duncan is the birth father of the girl ( forgot name) who calls Perez Dad.perez was married to her mother who died. I believe Duncan was a bit of a lad while his daughter was growing up.

Sorry just read my OP and see I made a mistake. Of course I meant he doesn't want his daughter getting involved with Alan who could be his son.

I thoroughly enjoyed it last night and I am certainly looking forward to next week. I will be sorry when this series ends.

Jalima1108 Wed 14-Mar-18 19:40:04

Thanks Atqui, I got it the wrong way round.

Jalima1108 Wed 14-Mar-18 19:41:07

I just like Dougie Henshall, he could be reading nursery rhymes for all I care grin

Jalima1108 Wed 14-Mar-18 19:42:51

The author, Ann Cleeves, said:
“I might kill him off.”
Well, she will have me to answer to if she does shock

Pittcity Wed 14-Mar-18 19:43:51

I had the same thought atqui

Atqui Wed 14-Mar-18 20:41:15

And me Jalema .
Oooh the suspense!

Emma49 Wed 14-Mar-18 20:41:25

Cassie is the daughter of Perez and Duncan is her step father. It was mentioned by Adam in last nights episode.

merlotgran Wed 14-Mar-18 20:54:53

That's what I thought, Emma49 [confued]

merlotgran Wed 14-Mar-18 20:56:36

confused

annodomini Wed 14-Mar-18 20:56:52

Duncan is Cassie's birth father who was married to her mother who left him and subsequently lived with Jimmy who is therefore Cassie's step father.

Just realised that I have constructed a sentence literally consisting of relative clauses!

Jalima1108 Wed 14-Mar-18 21:02:43

but at least I understand now annodomini!

Thank you grin

Jalima1108 Wed 14-Mar-18 21:03:42

who's Adam .....

lost the plot completely

chelseababy Wed 14-Mar-18 21:08:02

Cassie's surname is Perez ...but Perez is step father?

Jalima1108 Wed 14-Mar-18 21:08:26

What kind of person is Perez?

In terms of his character, he’s not one of those haunted types with lots of problems, he’s actually a straightforward man who would just like a quiet life. Perez is a slightly idealistic guy who thinks Shetland is a safe haven - a nice, safe place to raise his daughter.

Why does he return to Shetland?

Essentially he moves back for his daughter. Cassie’s real father lives in Shetland and Perez wants her to be close to her dad because her mother has died. I think he’s got a slightly idealised view of Shetland - a place where people don’t lock their front doors.

Jalima1108 Wed 14-Mar-18 21:09:29

That was from the BBC media centre, not my own words btw

merlotgran Wed 14-Mar-18 21:18:45

According to Wickipedia, Cassie is Jimmy Perez's daughter and Duncan's stepdaughter. grin

Jalima1108 Wed 14-Mar-18 21:27:29

Wickedpedia!!

Atqui Wed 14-Mar-18 21:30:14

I looked it up (! As I said up thread) and it said Duncan was birth father. Oh well who knows

Welshwife Wed 14-Mar-18 21:30:33

When I think about - when Alan said about Perez being Cassie’s father Duncan did not contradict him.
