All of Deedaa's, plus Life of Bliss, Life with the Lyons, The Navy Lark, Friday Night is Music Night, and, when I was small, listening at home with my mother to an organist called Sandy MacPherson playing requests from all over the far flung corners of the empire! Also on Sunday, Family Favourites, as the lunch was cooking!

lemongrove Sun 25-Mar-18 22:35:34

Ooh, I can hear the music now Chewygrin

Greyduster Sun 25-Mar-18 22:35:41

And Henry Hall's Guest Night!

lemongrove Sun 25-Mar-18 22:36:26

mrsmopp grin true!

Chewbacca Sun 25-Mar-18 22:37:03

I used to dread Sing Something Simple on a Sunday evening because I knew that bath and bed, ready for school the next day, was creeping inexorably closer!

lemongrove Sun 25-Mar-18 22:40:39

Me too!
That dreary tune heralding Sing Something Simple.....
Made the spitits plunge didn’t it??

lemongrove Sun 25-Mar-18 22:41:15

Spitits? Haha, spirits!

MissAdventure Sun 25-Mar-18 22:41:16

Was that on after the top 40?

lemongrove Sun 25-Mar-18 22:44:25

I think it was about 6 or 7 pm MissA so yes, after the top 20 had finished.
Sing Something Simple, beloved by all Mothers ?
It reminded you that Monday morning ( probably a cold and rainy one) was looming, with double maths and hockey on the agenda.

lemongrove Sun 25-Mar-18 22:46:07

As a child I liked The Glums ( Ron and Eth) and The Clitheroe Kid.

Chewbacca Sun 25-Mar-18 22:48:55

Yes I liked the Clitheroe Kid too lemon. I heard a recording of that on Radio 4 Extra too, quite recently. Can't remember the name of his long suffering older sister though?

pensionpat Sun 25-Mar-18 22:52:43

Horace Bachelors infra-draw method. Sounds like a type of birth control but it was for winning the pools. I used to wonder if it were that good, why didn't he win every week and then he wouldn't need to advertise.

lemongrove Sun 25-Mar-18 22:54:08

No, I can’t either, and would be very impressed with myself if I could.
I also liked Round The Horne, especially the ‘brief encounters’ ‘oh my darling, I love you so very, very much’
‘And I love you so very very much too darling’ etc. And rambling sid rumpo with his folk songs ‘ gurning the niblets’ and so on.

MissAdventure Sun 25-Mar-18 22:56:16

Green grow me nadgers, oh! grin

lemongrove Sun 25-Mar-18 23:01:41

Ah, a fan I see.smile

MissAdventure Sun 25-Mar-18 23:05:27

Oh I love Kenneth Williams!! Just his face makes me laugh, and I'm a huge fan of silly words and so on. smile

Just for you! grin

hildajenniJ Sun 25-Mar-18 23:36:15

Great shows, all of them. I too listened to The Navy Lark and Round the Horne. When I was a child I listened every Saturday morning to Uncle Mac's Children's Favourites, and Two way Family Favourites on a Sunday.

MissAdventure Sun 25-Mar-18 23:38:45

Thank you both! What a treat! grin
So silly!

mrsmopp Mon 26-Mar-18 00:26:37

Pension pat, Horace Batchelor used to spell KEYNSHAM about 3 times. I thought if he knew how to win the pools why not retire with all his winnings?

mrsmopp Mon 26-Mar-18 00:29:25

Ah, Two Way family favorites - I can smell the rosaries cooking! Did Cliff Michelmore marry his opposite number in Germany? It was when we still had forces out there.

Wagners (?) Walk then a "modern" radio soap. My dad was an avid radio fan - especially the weather forecast!

sodapop Mon 26-Mar-18 06:50:44

Yes Waggoners Walk started after the demise of Mrs Dale's Diary I think.
What a lot of memories these posts have evoked, I loved the radio and still do. Luxembourg was great for teenagers and the comedy programmes still linger in our memories obviously. I also remember rushing home from school to hear a scary serial called The Red Grass. My parents loved Sing Something Simple as well and Chapel in the Valley.
I remember having to be perfectly quiet when the football results were broadcast as my father checked his pools coupon.
