The Durrells

Yes pollyperkins I am sure you are right about endangered species. How amazing to have actually seen Gerald Durrell at the zoo. We love the gorillas best.........It was at this zoo that the little boy fell into the gorilla enclosure and the huge male silver back stood over him to protect him until the keepers could get to him. The gorilla's name was Jambo and there is a statue to him by the gorilla enclosure.

Yes went there with my oarents in the 1960s and saw the man himself walking round the zoo. I may be wrong but I seem to remember that he was one of the first to breed endangered species rather than just exhibit animals for people to gawp at.

If any Durrell fans are ever in Jersey visit the zoo - it was created by Gerald Durrell and there is an interesting exhibition all about him and his animals.

I must admit I find 'Spiro' very attractive! Who is the actor?
I find Louisa quite irritating though. Her children have grown on me though - had no time for the boys at first especially Leslie but they have improved.
Having read the book there's not a lot of resemblance to it though.

It's a lovely programme - a bit of escapism. The cast must have had a whale of a time making it.

Agree, very enjoyable and easy to watch. Just another programme making me want to live in a warmer country!

Some very funny scenes and lines this week! It's most enjoyable.

I love the Durrells although I haven't seen the current series yet. It's always so sunny and warm and funny. So nice to imagine oneself in a sunny climate in the middle of the cr***y weather we currently have in the UK.

I did enjoy Larry and Louisa in London! Poor Larry realising that Jonquil was more interested in his mother, while Louisa knocked back the Absinthe I gather that Henry Miller was in the habit of roaming about naked.

I think the Durrells were in fact from India and only relocated to Bournemouth after their father died.

Accuracy doesn't bother me too much, it's not trying to be factual. I just enjoy the series, the sun and the sea, the animals, the gentle humour.

I think you will find that the TV series differs quite a lot from the original books! I read somewhere recently that even the books weren’t true to life, Mr.Durrell took several liberties with the truth.
But it’s an enjoyable series, accepting the errors.
