Saw this film on TV last night for the second time and just loved it! Meryl Street is so good (as usual) and Hugh Grant was unexpectedly excellent. A real feel good film but with such sad undercurrents and all based on a true story. Lovely!

I had wanted to see this film but missed it on release, so thanks to the BBC for showing it. I remember my aunt playing FFJ's records when I was young - not old enough to appreciate that she was more than just a figure of fun. I like the 'new' Hugh Grant in this persona as well as the Jeremy Thorpe role. I hope he has now left his previous type-casting behind. Mind you, I did like his Prime Minister in Love Actually. I hope it's on again next Christmas! blush

Didn't really know what to expect but we loved this. As others have said, it's quite sad (that poor woman, contracting syphilis from her vile husband) but also very uplifting, giving an insight into her relationship with the Hugh Grant character and how much they loved each other, even though he also had another lady on the go. I remember hearing FFJ's recordings on the radio when I was a child and somehow the awful voice didn't matter.

Hugh Grant really seems to be coming into his own as an actor now that he's matured; he was brilliant in this, and also in Paddington 2 as well as the Jeremy Thorpe series.

I saw it at the vinema and again later on TV. I knew about FFJ so had some idea what to expect and found some parts hilarious. I agree the actor playing the pianist Cosmo was brilliant! But it was also very sad especially at the end. People with late syphilis often have 'delusions of grandeur' - I have read that Henry 8th might have had it for example.

And it is very hard when you can sing in tune to get it just a bit wrong as Meryl Streep did. Different from singing completely the wrong notes.
