I just watched this, I think it was first broadcast last night. I enjoyed it, although I really had to concentrate, and even then I was a bit confused!

It has Emelia Fox, and John Simm and is set in Hong Kong. Worth a watch. Lots of new programmes starting soon for the autumn.

I liked this too. Anything with John Simm is worth a watch.

I liked it. It's a shame we've got to wait a week for the next episode. I like John Simm.

tanith Tue 11-Sept-18 22:20:58

Certainly worth a watch I like Emelia Fox.

Yes it looks promising.
Am I alone in thinking that Hong Kong is very unattractive? Is there more to it than garish neon lights?

John Simm and Emelia Fox .... what's not to like ... great actors both of them. The storyline looks promising. I just hope they don't fall for each other. I always hate that as it seems too obvious!!! Yes mcem Hong Kong looks like my worst nightmare!!

Mcem admitted I lived there a very long time ago but HK is/ was a fantastic place the garish lights etc I think is just in the main touristy area but it really was a fascinating place It has two separate areas HK island and HK mainland I lived on the mainland but visited the island a number of times by ferry but I believe there is a tunnel now my first child was born in. Hospital half way up a mountain on the island. I loved my time there however it was as cheap as chips then and I believe now it is one of the most expensive in the world

I also enjoyed it, can't wait for next one! Both John Simm and Emilia Fox are excellent actors. Some good dramas on at the moment.

mcem Wed 12-Sept-18 07:23:04

Thanks for that BlueBelle.
I was disappointed with it as the location but perhaps we'll see more away from the neon lights as the story goes on.

I recorded it but have not watched it but after these comments I definitely will.

Promising start, I also think the neon lights of Hong Kong look like a descent into hell, for me at any rate. I have only experienced Singapore in the Far East and I found that quite oppressive, from a humidity point of view. I know people who rave about Hong Kong but certainly from what we have seen so far in this programme it doesn't look that appealing.

BlueBelle Fri 14-Sept-18 07:51:04

Terribull it’s not like that all over, just the main tourist area or at least it was It’s like Moscow everyone thinks it’s all Red Square but that’s only a square mile of Moscow the rest is very ordinary and in many places drab
Getting back to the drama I ve only just watched it and really enjoyed that first episode I m really looking forward to the next one I had a moment actually as it panned past a building with the words Chungking Mansions on the facade I had a moment of dejavue as I lived in a flat in that building By the way many of the high rise flats are called Mansions not a mansion as we know it just ordinary flats

Well I stuck with it. I was confused quite a lot of the time, but I did enjoy it and it had a good ending.

BlueBelle Mon 29-Oct-18 22:03:27

Me too seacliff, I lost my way a number of times it was very confusing at times

Auntieflo Tue 30-Oct-18 08:22:24

Well we watched it, and really didn't 'get it'. I don't mean the story particularly, but there were a lot of episodes, for not much of a convoluted storyline. John Sim seems to be the same whatever he appears in. The asian actors were very stilted and the rest was a waste of a lot of good actors.
So you can see I enjoyed it, hmm.

Teetime Tue 30-Oct-18 09:17:19

Thank goodness that's finished!

LullyDully Tue 30-Oct-18 12:45:41

We persisted to the end. A bit of a daft story to be honest. What amazed me was how he knew his way around all the parts of Hong Kong after a few days and was telling the locals where to go. I was surprised he didn't pick up fluent Cantonese too. He managed to steal the hard drive of a computer despite saying he knew nothing about technology.

For a university lecture he was pretty good at handling himself in dangerous situation.

Yes, silly drama.

I enjoyed it but can someone tell what was written on the card he found in the box at the end? It made him smile but I missed what was written.

Bridgeit Tue 30-Oct-18 14:50:23

I think it was something along the lines of - If you are reading this card,— You should know I always loved you. —

Teetime Tue 30-Oct-18 14:50:32

It said dont give up the day job. smile

Bridgeit Tue 30-Oct-18 14:51:03

Good one Teetime ?

tanith Tue 30-Oct-18 15:26:24

Thanks all.

seacliff Tue 30-Oct-18 15:52:10

It said something to the effect of - In case I can't tell you myself - it was always you. x

He had always wondered if she really loved him, or the first husband. So he was happy to read that.

I think it could have been so good, but missed the mark for me sadly.
