Did anyone else watch the program about our future King the other night. I found it very entertaining and loved his story about the butcher and the black pudding. I felt he came across as a very nice person who is kind and thoughtful and his wife and sons, clearly love him very much.

Merlot, that is unkind, I did not slap you down, I posted the truth . I do not have ‘superior knowledge’ , there are things I do know , nothing superior in that.

I admit I do defend Charles but I only post what is true. Sorry my post angered you.

merlotgran Sat 10-Nov-18 19:18:54

I used to enjoy contributing to threads about the royal family - even making a sideways stab at humour but I'm so fed up with you slapping posts down with your 'superior' knowledge, Annie that it hardly seems worth bothering any more. hmm

Anniebach Sat 10-Nov-18 19:12:24

Because ‘Merlot*, she said no dogs in KP because of Princess Michaels cats, not true .

Framilode Sat 10-Nov-18 19:07:45

I have read this about Diana and the dog several times Anniebach. Apparently she made him get rid of his old labrador who went to live with one of his staff.

merlotgran Sat 10-Nov-18 18:54:30

How do you know Diana wouldn't allow a dog in KP, Annie?

Anniebach Sat 10-Nov-18 18:43:14

No surprise , Diana wouldn’t allow a dog in KP, they were married in 1981, she hated Highgrove, their marriage was dead by 1986, Tigga died in 2002. So Camilla would have many memories of that dog.

Framilode Sat 10-Nov-18 18:36:42

I just don't think the Queen is maternal. When she was first married and Charles had just been born she left him in their country house (Windlesham Manor I think) during the week with the nanny and only saw him at weekends.

She spent months in Malta without him. I think she was a wife first and mother down the list.

I think she is very good at her job but has limited imagination and can't empathise with people who think and feel differently to her.

merlotgran Sat 10-Nov-18 18:25:50

Sorry. I mean the turbulent years of his marriage to Diana.

Ooops! grin

merlotgran Sat 10-Nov-18 18:24:31

Did anyone spot Camilla's faux pas and Charles doing his best to swat it away?

They were walking with Camilla's rescued Jack Russell when she referred to his JR Tigga who lived to a ripe old age.

Not prepared to let it go when Charles was reluctant to join in and walked off she carried on with undisguised amusement.

Tigga was a big part of Charles' life during the turbulent years of his marriage to Camilla so how come she knew so much about the dog's character?

Ooops! grin

Just thought, there is a new book either out or about to be released, for the very first time Charles talks of his doubts in the run up to the marriage , and some of the lies which were reported. He will not be able to do this if Regent , perhaps the path is being laid ?

Mapleleaf Sat 10-Nov-18 17:31:12

I have huge admiration for all he has done and tries to do for young people and the environment. However, whatever he does/doesn’t do, he will always be despised by some people simply because of his birth. He can never win in their eyes.
I agree with all you say, merlotgran.
Yes, they live very privileged lives, but like every single one of us, have nice traits and not so nice traits. In essence, they are human, with human foibles.

Anniebach Sat 10-Nov-18 17:28:14

I doubt it Jalima, perhaps if Phillip were to die ?

Jalima1108 Sat 10-Nov-18 17:16:27

Framilode and whiteswan
No flak from me

Even Harry feels awkward when he bumps into the Queen along the corridors of the palace.
Did he tell you that personally EllanVannin?
Do tell how you know.

DH wondered if this programme was paving the way for the announcement that he will become Regent very shortly.

merlotgran Sat 10-Nov-18 16:18:15

Charles deserves our sympathy. He's had to sit through one of those cringe-making variety shows in his 'honour' to be shown next Tuesday on ITV

The one they did for the Queen was dire.

Anniebach Sat 10-Nov-18 16:13:20

The boys greeted their mother and father, the media chose to only show their mother

EllanVannin Sat 10-Nov-18 15:44:53

When the boys were greeted by Diana on the ship it was a genuine smile of delight regardless of who was around with a camera. It was natural pleasure when she saw them.

It had been Margaret's decision not to marry the man as even if she had she would still have remained HRH and would also have enjoyed whatever allowance she was having.

lemongrove Sat 10-Nov-18 15:37:41

Does it mean you won’t be buying the new Charles postage stamps just out MaryE ?
Since the Queen intends to die in the job, Charles may have to wait a few more years to become King. What a long lived family they are.

Anniebach Sat 10-Nov-18 15:16:13

It isn’t true that Margaret couldn’t marry who she chose, she did have to choose between the man she was suppose to love or her place in line to the throne. nothing stopped her sleeping around .

As for Diana and her hugging, she performed for the cameras , the queen never has.

EllanVannin Sat 10-Nov-18 15:03:40

Even Harry feels awkward when he bumps into the Queen along the corridors of the palace. I think enough is enough of the starchy atmosphere and let Charles and Camilla take over.
It wasn't for poor princess Margaret was it ? Being told who she could/couldn't marry.

Sparklefizz Sat 10-Nov-18 14:46:03

merlot I agree with your post above. Gosh, I think they must all be human grin. No mention of Harry, though .... and personally I think he's great! blush

merlotgran Sat 10-Nov-18 14:44:43

But it was in the early fifties, EllanVannin. The Queen had been brought up not to show affection in public. We have no idea what went on once they were behind closed doors.

merlotgran Sat 10-Nov-18 14:40:23

I enjoyed the programme and was expecting it to be full of positive footage and information. It was hardly likely to contain carping comments, a lot of which are just rumours. The monarchy is welcome to my few pence of taxpayers' money. I consider them good value.

We know he can be irritable and stubborn just as we know Prince Phillip is often rude and uncompromising. The Queen can be cold and aloof, Prince William, tetchy and controlling, etc., etc., etc.

Nobody's perfect. Charles will make a good king.

EllanVannin Sat 10-Nov-18 14:35:03

Anniebach a couple of little pecks ? The child was eager and am sure he'd have anticipated a fuss/hugs---which didn't materialise. This was her son ! Unlike Diana when her instinct had been entirely different. Elizabeth wasn't even Queen then either.

FlexibleFriend Sat 10-Nov-18 13:42:01

I think it's quite easy for someone with the privileges Charles has to be concerned about the planet etc and appear to be dignified while others are at his beck and call and do everything for him. The prospect of Charles as king has made me think about the monarchy in a way the queen never has but it's a lesser evil than becoming a republic in my opinion.

Anniebach Sat 10-Nov-18 13:05:31

This may work ,
