Did anyone else watch the program about our future King the other night. I found it very entertaining and loved his story about the butcher and the black pudding. I felt he came across as a very nice person who is kind and thoughtful and his wife and sons, clearly love him very much.

kittylester Sat 10-Nov-18 08:44:30

I fell asleep half way through - I was very tired! I intend to watch the rest this afternoon.

Luckygirl Sat 10-Nov-18 08:47:04

Well - it did all come across very positively - but what else did I expect? They certainly weren't going to highlight any downsides. Call me a cynic, but I am guessing that this was a carefully crafted piece of PR! His wife came across as quite grumpy during the royal engagements.

Anniebach Sat 10-Nov-18 08:51:00

I watched it. I have much admiration for Charles, I can’t think of anyone who has endured so much critcism for so many years , when he spoke out about the planet being in danger all those yesrs ago the press led with ‘Charles talks to plants’. The Princes Trust has helped thousands of young people since he started the charity in 1976.

Now some want William to be king because Charles is too old, no matter Charles has been heir since the age of 4.

gillybob Sat 10-Nov-18 08:55:58

I didn’t watch it as I have no time for the royals. Seeing the adverts for it were bad enough. However they were hardly going to make a program showing him in anything other than a rosy glow were they?

Blinko Sat 10-Nov-18 09:06:54

He's being rebranded, isn't he? Though I agree he has had some really bad press in the past. Some warranted, and some not, imo.

Auntieflo Sat 10-Nov-18 09:37:25

I enjoyed it. But then perhaps I am an old fuddy duddy

maryeliza54 Sat 10-Nov-18 10:02:27

He cares about the environment - give me a break. With his lifestyle? Sheer propaganda.

Sparklefizz Sat 10-Nov-18 10:11:12

I think Charles works quite hard and the environment and the Princes' Trust are close to his heart and he is passionate about them. I enjoyed seeing the work he has done in those areas, and at least he has a legacy to show for all these years in waiting.

However ..... Camilla saying how kind he was!! I rankled! Neither Camilla nor Charles were kind to Diana - in fact, they were cruel. So I certainly don't buy that.

Anniebach Sat 10-Nov-18 10:12:25

What in his life style affects the environment? Yes he travels by air because his ‘job’ demands this

I am puzzled by ‘ he is being rebranded Blinko, he discussed what he has been doing since the 70’s .

paddyann Sat 10-Nov-18 10:13:44

Works hard? Ha bloomin ha ,wouldn't know a hard days work if he tripped over it!

henetha Sat 10-Nov-18 10:18:25

Well, of course, he's hardly at the coal-face all day, is he.
But in the role he was born into I think he has done his best to care about the environment and about people. It's very easy to criticise, isn't it, but who of us would like to have our every move watched and picked over.
Good luck too him I say, and I think he will make a fine King.

Blinko Sat 10-Nov-18 10:22:19

Hi Annieb. I meant that he is being presented in the best possible light in anticipation of attaining the throne in the not very distant future. The favourable PR will also serve to counter the bad press he's received in the past, especially during Dianagate. Btw, I too think he's done some very good work via the Prince's Trust.

gillybob Sat 10-Nov-18 10:22:47

I have to agree with you there paddyann and maryeliza How hypocritical for “one” to preach about the environment and enjoy the lifestyle of fancy cars and air travel as he does. They’re all the same. Don’t do as one does, do as one says.

Framilode Sat 10-Nov-18 10:27:54

I enjoyed it. I have always liked Charles and think he has been unfairly treated in the past.

The marriage of Charles and Diana was a disaster and should never have taken place. I do think he tried in the marriage but it was never going to be successful.

He went back to Camilla but Diana also had many lovers and played the press. In my opinion she was a bit of a stranger to the truth and painted a picture of him that wasn't true. She was beautiful and a brilliant actress and got most of the press on her side.

I think he will be a good king and Camilla a good queen.

Waiting for the flak...

maryeliza54 Sat 10-Nov-18 10:28:01

I’m tired of the Princes Trust being wheeled out every time as an example of good work he’s done- there are many many people who do good work day in day out with none of his unearned advantages - if the PT is the best justification we can come up with for this waste of space heaven help us.

Anniebach Sat 10-Nov-18 10:28:37

Gilly, do you walk or drive to work ?

maryeliza54 Sat 10-Nov-18 10:29:27

For the sake of my sanity I shall leave this thread now - fancy a coffee gilly?

Anniebach Sat 10-Nov-18 10:30:32

Framilode. No flack from me , I agree with you

maryeliza54 Sat 10-Nov-18 10:32:50

But not before saying ab that it’s a nasty cheap comment about how gilly goes to work especially as we know that she works incredibly hard and her family couldn’t manage without so just stop with the snide comments

gillybob Sat 10-Nov-18 10:37:21

Almost every morning I drive my 2013 car to the next town, pick up 3 children (at around 8.15 am) I drop one at her friends house where she then walks to her secondary school, I then hit the country roads to get the other 2 to school (miles away) by 8.50. (We often cut it very fine) I then drive about 8 miles to work. I do the same in reverse at tea time (sometimes do it with a 6 month baby in tow). So in answer to your question Annie yes I do drive.

gillybob Sat 10-Nov-18 10:39:57

In all fairness I don’t think you can compare my driving to work and prince Charles lifestyle (and all the royals to be fair) in any way Annie if I did not drive it would effect too many peoples lives.

Anniebach Sat 10-Nov-18 10:41:28

Yes Gilly, because you have to, you have no choice, same for Charles when he has to fly abroad , no choice . Should the royals travel by rowing boat ?

gillybob Sat 10-Nov-18 10:46:30

Oh dear. Not sure what to say really Annie except there really is no comparison. But never mind, I know you are quite fond of Charles so I will just leave it for now.

Anniebach Sat 10-Nov-18 11:03:43

No Gilly, not fond of him, I will not and cannot compare my life of poverty to his life of wealth , he does his work I do mine. I do respect him for his dignity, I feel sorry him for the constant critcism thrown at him which he has to take because his job demands this of him .
