I too enjoyed both film and book. If anyone is visiting Ireland, a lot of the film was shot around the town of Enniscorthy, Co Wexford. You can visit some of the locations. enniscorthycastle.ie/tours-education/brooklyn-movie-bus-tour

I agree janeainsworth. Excellent casting all round.

Thanks for the alert jane43.

I really enjoyed the book, and this was one of those times when the film was just as good.
Saoirse Ronan was brilliant and I loved the portrayal of her stoical, long suffering mother.
Julie Walters as the boarding house landlady and Jim Broadbent as Eilis’s priest and mentor were both excellent.

Labaik, he plays William Cecil, Adviser to Queen Elizabeth. David Tennant is in it as well. Lilypops I agree about Emory Cohen, such a great casting.

I loved the film more than the book! Very enjoyable.

I didn't realise Guy Pearce was in it, Jane; a most underrated actor.

I loved the film too , the Italian in laws were brilliant , Emory Cohen played her husband so well , I loved the way he courted her, so gentle and loving ,(very handsome too)!!

I’m so glad you enjoyed it Seacliff. I will certainly watch it again. Saoirse Ronan has got a great future ahead of her, she is only 24.

Thank you so much Jane. I have just watched this and loved it, such a beautiful and moving film.

I would never have known about it but for Gransnet - I love the recommendations here.

I also enjoyed the film and have recommended it to a friend. I think it is one of the few films that is true to the book. I agree that Saiorse Ronan is a very talented actor. (My daughter says that it's no longer correct to call her an actress)

Thank you Labaik. I just did a search and the film looks wonderful, also starring Guy Pearce, one of my favourite actors. It is released in mid-January so I have made a note in my new diary to remind me to look out for it.

I loved the book , is the film as good ?

Labaik Fri 28-Dec-18 11:53:52

I'm looking forward to her new film about Mary Queen of Scots.

I see Saoirse Ronan received many nominations and awards for this role. She is one of those actresses you simply cannot take your eyes off when she is on the screen. I hope she gets many more leading roles.

I watched the film on tv about a fortnight ago and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I watched Brooklyn a while ago after my sister said the book was great. I loved the film.

Labaik Thu 27-Dec-18 15:56:32

I agree. It was one of my favourite films from a couple of years ago. I also watched My Week [?] with Marilyn and had forgotten how much I'd enjoyed it first time round.

I watched this beautiful film yesterday evening. It is about an Irish Girl who emigrated to the USA for a better life. The lead actress, Saoirse Ronan, gives a wonderful performance and is supported by Jim Broadbent who plays the Irish priest who sponsored her to go to the USA and Julie Walters who plays the landlady of the house where she lodges.
