Judi Dench: Passion for Trees, Nothing Like a Dame & Philomena

I enjoyed the full treat on BBC2 last night. Interesting with the trees, then the gathering of friends and finally the film ( which I'd seen before ) but always worth a second sitting with Judi Dench in it.

I might read the book although it is going to be sad at times. Apparently a lot of it is about the son's life in the USA.

Anything with Judi Dench in is a must-see for me, she has such a compelling way.

The book of Philomena is very good too, although quite sad.

I found it quite amusing when Dame Maggie Smith said to a photographer that he seemed to be very visible and all the time and would he like to sit next to her? He asked whether he should move away and she replied that would be a good idea! In other words he had been intrusive for too long.

I think it was a bit disjointed because there wasn't much in the way of direction. It did come across a bit as if the producers just put them together and said "Ok - now just talk!" Lets face it - there's only so much conversation you can have before you run out! I found them all very watchable though.

I enjoyed 'passion for trees, but found the 'Dames' disjointed and disappointing, almost presenting them as Grumpy Old Women.
I enjoyed the photographs from Judi Dench's appearance in the York Mystery Plays. My tutor at college in the sixties knew the Dench family and had worked on the costumes, and persuaded Judi Dench to come to college and talk to us; she was modest but fascinating.

I came across nothing like a dame by chance. I enjoyed watching the programme as I think all 4 are great actresses but like and agree Judi dench is a giggler although when she was asked about her late husband Michael it showed how her grief is still so raw. At times it did come across as they would have preferred to be somewhere else.

I really enjoyed the Dame one - it felt like getting to know the 'real' people. Judi is a great giggler!

I think the Dame programme has been on before hasn't it? I seem to remember several Gransnetters saying it was boring so I didn't bother to watch it. I'm not keen on those self-congratulatory type of programmes anyway.

Philomena was a fabulous film and Steve Coogan a real revelation.

Yes, I very much enjoyed the trees one, finding out all sorts of information such as trees communicate with each other.
The Dame one was lovely although they seemed a little dubious about the direction or lack of.
Philomena was excellently done and very touching. Minor niggle was that I kept wondering about the awful hairstyle that gave her!

I'm afraid I found Nothing like a Dame boring and disappointing. I got the feeling they didn't want to be doing it
