Am beside myself with excitement, last ever, or so they say, of Luther, starts tonight 9pm BBB1, just four episodes on consecutive evenings, so my favourite detective and so much more, anybody else enthralled by this, I am such a fan!

I can't remember when the first episode ever of Luther was broadcast but I do remember watching a little of it and turning it off because it was so violent. I haven't bothered to watch it since, and note that the pre-publicity for this series emphasized the sadistic nature of the programme: "This Will Hurt". Yet people seem to enjoy that sort of thing.

They seem to claim it's the final series every time so we'll have to see if this time it's true.

maddyone Thu 03-Jan-19 22:59:14

I thought it was the final series, but maybe I’m wrong.

Divawithattitude Thu 03-Jan-19 22:47:22

Final Series, is there to be no more then?????

maddyone Thu 03-Jan-19 22:43:17

I have never watched this before, but after all the hype before this series started I decided to give it a go. I only watched the first episode and about 15 minutes of the second, because I found it to be far too violent for my taste. I also found the plot to be totally unbelievable, although I realise that not all drama/books etc need be believable to be enjoyed. It’s not for me, I hope those of you who do like it, enjoy this final series.

I got a bit lost yesterday, but have loved tonight’s episode.

Luther is remarkably inept though, isn’t he? I really wouldn’t want to be one of his friends or colleagues - he seems to land them in all sorts of danger.

Nannylovesshopping Thu 03-Jan-19 22:36:33

Didn’t know I could hold my breath for an hour?

Pagzy Thu 03-Jan-19 22:33:05

Contract killer hired by George

Teetime Thu 03-Jan-19 22:19:09

Ive lost it a bit now who is the new guy with the gun?

Divawithattitude Thu 03-Jan-19 20:58:09

I agree a bit grim but still very watchable. Only 5 minutes to go!!

Washerwoman Thu 03-Jan-19 17:22:26

Yes the previews spoil it ,they seem to do that now and show too much.I must confess I'm finding this series disturbingly grim.I love a good thriller, and a build up of tension but it's all getting too violent for me.

Nelliemoser Thu 03-Jan-19 16:49:30

It's so dark I can't see what I am writing.

Nelliemoser Thu 03-Jan-19 16:47:12

I really do not like the level of violence in it. A sign I am getting old perhaps, but tryiung to see through the dark in the offices etc is just plain stupid,

I hope a few of them will trip flat on their faces because they cannot see what they are doing.

FlexibleFriend Thu 03-Jan-19 14:36:04

I like Patrick Malahide too, not a fan of Hermione Norris tbh I think she plays herself most of the time and her face only has one expression. I love Luther though and have watched all the series when they've been on. I turn off quickly at the end before the previews for the next show appear, I can wait a day ffs.

Greyduster Thu 03-Jan-19 14:25:38

Patrick Malahide does a lovely line in menace. Have always liked him!

Lazigirl Thu 03-Jan-19 13:06:01

Nannylovesshopping Thu 03-Jan-19 11:22:51

Lazigirl Thu 03-Jan-19 10:17:54

Lynne59. Yes I hadn't noticed the bow legs until now. Oh dear another sex symbol bites the dust grin.

sodapop Thu 03-Jan-19 09:05:54

Must admit I found it difficult to follow in places but I enjoyed it. Hermione Norris is a bit one trick pony but in this case I think it works. Luther and Alice are scary in their different ways. I shall watch the whole series.

ninathenana Thu 03-Jan-19 06:49:29

Gonegirl "mad doc from Holby*

Who was that ??

tiredoldwoman Thu 03-Jan-19 05:14:46

I hadn't see a full series of Luther before , so ticked this to watch - I had to turn it off as I was so frightened . I'll I player it in daylight .

callgirl1 Wed 02-Jan-19 23:51:02

I had no problems with the diction, apart from Hermione Norris, her speech was very indistinct. That last scene with Alice really had me peeping through my fingers and cringing!

gulligranny Wed 02-Jan-19 22:57:50

We binge-watched all four series in the last few weeks and although it's very violent and you could drive a tank through the holes in the plots, it is still addictive viewing. Idris Elba is terrific and Dermot Crowley who plays his boss Martin Schenk is great. Ruth Wilson's Alice is sublime (my DH adores her) and in this latest series Hermione Norris is utterly chilling. But I do think enough is enough, and that Series 5 should be the last.

Nannylovesshopping Wed 02-Jan-19 22:18:25

Yay! Alice at her brilliant best

Gonegirl Wed 02-Jan-19 22:00:12

OMG! Now the mad doc from Holby's cropping up. ?
