Am beside myself with excitement, last ever, or so they say, of Luther, starts tonight 9pm BBB1, just four episodes on consecutive evenings, so my favourite detective and so much more, anybody else enthralled by this, I am such a fan!

I've now finally finished all the series of Luther......thought it was good....some writers out their with a vivid imagination lol......a gruesome drama but least you see just the lead up and start to the muder/torture then the result, you don't see the actual murder.....
Yes, I think Luther has run its course though.....

Pittcity Sun 06-Jan-19 16:03:19

All the series are now on iPlayer.
I might have a bit of a recap

seacliff Sun 06-Jan-19 13:47:43

Yes I too liked the relationship between Luther and Alice. That didn't bother me, just the other increasing violence.

sodapop Sat 05-Jan-19 16:53:35

I agree with a lot of what you say Nannylovesshopping I've always enjoyed Luther and his complex relationship with Alice. I found this series losing its appeal towards the end though and its probably time to call a halt. I would like to see Idris Elba do something else, but not Bond, I am not a fan of 007.

Well I’m obviously in the minority here, I really liked this, I do think you have had to have seen the whole series from day one, Luther is very complex and his relationship with Alice from the beginning intrigued me, though I do think series five was the weakest, relying maybe on too much violence, but then the dr was truely insane, I guess I must have a really dark side as I read books like this all the time?

trisher Sat 05-Jan-19 15:40:54

Mean? as well as crazy? Who knows? One thing you can't expect from Luther is anything reasonable.

Pittcity Sat 05-Jan-19 15:17:43

I'm not going upstairs on the bus again and I hope not to need heart surgery.....
One question. Why would anyone who has a multi million pound house with a basement room for torture not shell out for soundproofing?

trisher Sat 05-Jan-19 14:43:09

Completely unbelievable and too much violence. Still I watched it just to see what the next impossible event would be.

seacliff Sat 05-Jan-19 14:29:18

Well I have watched to series 4. It has got more and more violent, and actually quite repetitive and a bit boring. In the end I was on my laptop and also watching, as it was no longer holding my attention. Agreed also very dark, and sometimes hard to hear.

I liked it at first, but now I've had enough and have wiped the rest. It's a shame as it could have been much better without the constant extreme and unnecessary violence.

Maggiemaybe Sat 05-Jan-19 13:20:12

He’d be fine. Unless he ever had to catch a pig in a passage.

Lazigirl Sat 05-Jan-19 10:39:22

Could you have a Bond with bandy legs Teetime? hmm

Teetime Sat 05-Jan-19 10:18:53

Well that's was quite barmy in the end how the actors did it without laughing at that dialogue I dont know. The TV critic in the Telegraph today says Idris Elba should now give up on Luther and concentrate on being Bond- I agree he would make a great Bond.

Lazigirl Sat 05-Jan-19 10:07:08

This developed into such an unbelievable horror fest, that it became comic book silly. IMO should never have been made. It has definitely run its course.

I loved Luther but after this 'final' series i think it has had its day.It was very violent and quite scary at times, those awful scenes at the end inside the house. shock Found myself checking the front and back doors were both secured!!! Wont say anything else as dont want to spoil for anyone going to watch on catch up but it has lost its attraction for me.

Soupy Fri 04-Jan-19 22:41:23

Everything is so dark, in every way, and I'm left needing an explanatory booklet as to what on earth happened!

Anja Fri 04-Jan-19 22:33:22

Load of unmitigated rubbish. The man is an ego on legs and leaves death and destruction all around him. First series I’ve watched and never again.

Maggiemaybe Fri 04-Jan-19 22:08:32

hmm A little too action-packed and a few too many deaths for my liking. I'll say no more so as to give no spoilers away, but it wasn't my favourite Luther. Perhaps it's run its course.

Oldwoman70 Fri 04-Jan-19 18:35:45

A friend raves about this programme - I told her I had never seen it and she has given me the box set of the first 4 series. I have only watched the first two programmes of the first series and am still not convinced. I will watch a few more episodes to give it a chance.

On a side note, why do the main characters in detective programmes all either have a troubled background, a broken/troubled marriage or some other problem?

ginny Fri 04-Jan-19 18:12:30

I tried to watch it this time as so many had told me how good it was.
No thanks, not for me. Dark and violent. I wonder what sort of people think up these things. Probably seemingly normal people that we might meet any day. Makes you wonder doesn’t it ?

oldbatty Fri 04-Jan-19 17:12:19

Disappointing.

Greyduster Fri 04-Jan-19 10:30:38

We were catching up on the last series yesterday. It was so horrible at one point that I couldn’t watch and had to go out of the room!

Lazigirl Fri 04-Jan-19 09:46:09

I enjoy watching a good thriller as a form of escapism and can divorce myself from the violence because it isn't real, but this series has become so violent it is now silly. It makes you wonder whether anyone will be left standing at the end! What I really dislike is the fact that someone can have a good bashing around the head, then carry on as if nothing has happened a short time later. No neurosurgery, ITU or a lifetime of rehab!

Eloethan Fri 04-Jan-19 09:36:41

I agree with your point re Eastenders Lynne59. I stopped watching it years ago because everything and everybody in it was so unpleasant.

Lynne59 Fri 04-Jan-19 09:22:07

It IS rather violent - but then so is Eastenders (not seen it for 20 years, had the misfortune to catch the last 10 minutes last night), which is on when many schoolchildren are watching. That is definitely wrong.

Teetime Fri 04-Jan-19 09:03:36

Thank you Pagzy I'm back with it now. I'm still clutching the cushion throughout this.
