I am really enjoying her lovely voice reading the news on Classic FM .Bring back more of the oldies please.

I always liked her. Another loss for the BBC.

I was pleased to hear Moira's voice on the radio. As of July she will be presenting her own show on Saturdays on Classic FM.

Love Moira Stewart. Looking forward to hearing her on Classic FM.

In my former life I was an Event Manager and booked quite a few celebs for various conferences, award ceremonies etc. I can honesty say Moira Stewart was the nicest person we ever had. She compered a 3 day conference and unlike some more famous newsreaders we had used she was happy to interact with everyone from delegates to hotel staff even when she wasn't officially on duty. I remember she came and sat chatting with the girls on reception, mixed with everyone in the bar and generally exuded warmth. A thoroughly lovely lady.

That's so nice to hear tidyskatemum. Somehow not a surprise either. Nice lady.

I agree, she has a lovely voice.
My dear late husband used to say the he loved the sound of my voice and never tired of hearing it - but that didn't mean that he was actually listening!

Yes she does have a nice soothing voice... I have to say some women presenters have me reaching for the off switch...loud and screechy comes to mind!... and not only women, a few of the men too.. Robert Peston has a VERY annoying way of speaking! ?

Yes I agree did you see Moira in Back in time for Schol reading some news from the 1980s

In the 80s I used to see her in Sainsburys in Chiswick - she was very beautiful and extremely skinny, legs like twigs!

I see she's nearly 70 shock

Let's not forget to credit Chris Evans for bringing Moira back to the BBC after years of being away due to ageism.
All the best presenters have been pushed out, especially on radio 2
I was outraged when the BBC mucked about with Simon Mayo's Drivetime and got rid of the lovely jolly Matt Williams the sports presenter who joined in on the Confessions, book club etc.
Love Jo Whiley on her own programme but it didn't work with Simon.
Now waiting for his new programme to begin on the new Scala station.
And have found Chris Evans Breakfast on Virgin when I want a bit of light relief from 5Live in the mornings.

Jane10 Sat 16-Feb-19 17:01:26

Yup. Radio 2 made some big mistakes. I can't stand gushy Zoe Ball. I've moved to Virgin with Chris in the mornings. I wonder how many others did too?

Aepgirl Sat 16-Feb-19 21:27:09

Definitely a woman who got her TV jobs on merit, not just because she is a woman, as happens today.

Phoebes Sat 16-Feb-19 21:42:26

Zoe Ball seems very nervous and seems to be trying too hard. We love her on Strictly where she seems much more confident. We have always enjoyed Chris Evans in the morning, so now, we are listening to the Breakfast Show on the Alexa we have in the bedroom. When we get up and go downstairs, we listen to Zoe as we haven’t got an Alexa in the kitchen.

Nanny27 Sat 16-Feb-19 23:37:23

I'm learning to quite enjoy Zoe Ball but then I was never a Chris Evans fan. I so agree that messing about with Drivetime with the resulting exit of Simon Mayo was a real travesty. I really can't take to Sara Cox.

I love to listen to Moira Stewart too. Didn’t know she was on Classic FM, so thanks for that info! I too, miss the old drive time with Simon and Matt ( his laugh was so infectious) and have really been thrown by all the recent changes on Radio 2. I have an hours drive to (and from) work 3 days a week and Chris Evans and Simon Mayo’s shows have kept me sane and entertained on those long journeys. I agree with Phoebes about Zoe Ball - great on the TV but trying too hard on the radio. So I plug my phone in and listen to Chris through the Virgin App, as I haven’t got a digital radio in my car, only to find that it eats up all my data!! So, now I’m trying other stations, but I’m not impressed. Feeling pretty bereft ?

Floradora9 I love Moira Stewart too. I remember her talking about how much she enjoys jazz! Am I imagining it or did she say she experiences synesthesia? I'm sure I remember her dancing with ecstasy at some jazz, anyway.

Tillybelle Sun 17-Feb-19 18:39:35

grannyjo5 I understand your bereftism! I have no radio in my little van as it's a conversion and only speaks Japanese. I have a good CD player in it though.
Worse though is the impossibility of tuning in to Radio 4 in my house. It drives me nuts! Ever since the whole lot changed, Radio 4, that backbone of British radio, became impossible to tune in. I do put it on the laptop computer but it's not the same.
