I know there was a thread some time ago with recommendations of programmes on Netflix, but I can’t find it.
So, starting another one. I’ve just had a relaxing couple of hours watching Mona Lisa Smile. A lovely feel good film set in an American girls college in the early 1950s.
Any other recommendations or avoids?

I quite enjoyed Dirty John, watched while doing the ironing!

Oh I loved Edie. At first I thought it was going to be a depressing film, but no. I also feel like I've been on holiday in Scotland.

Agree about Shtisel, it was so enjoyable I felt as if they were real nd I knew them all. I believe there is a third series?

I just watched "What we did on our Holiday" and absolutely loved it. So touching but also some laugh out loud moments, and stunning Scottish scenery.

We watched After Life, all the episodes back to back, and really enjoyed it, (and although to say I enjoyed a drama that dealt with depression after bereavement doesn't sound right, it's sensitive and does have many lighter moments).
I've never really been a fan of Ricky Gervais, but his acting in this I thought was so good. He wrote /directed it, I believe?
Penelope Wilmot also starred.

I watched After Life as well, another ironing watch! I enjoyed it, it has such a good cast.

Empress In The Palace .The costumes and sets are stunning.
The film, Nothing to Hide and for relaxation I am watching the whole of GBBO from the beginning

I'm half way through Afterlife. It's brilliant! ( Some bad language though, - doesn't bother me too much.)
It's so sad, yet funny.

littleflo what is GBBO in full please ?

NanKate Thu 14-Mar-19 14:14:50

I thought the documentary The Keepers was good.

NanKate , Great British Bake Off. One of the great advantages of getting old, is that I cannot remember who won the earlier series.

Littleflo GBBO I watch it religiously, except when Russell. Brand, is on. I should have remembered the acronym, what a wally I am ?

I'm loving Afterlife too. I would probably not have watched it but for this thread, so thanks. Very poignant at times, and I see that Ricky Gervais also wrote it.

Swimming with Men is a really good, feel good movie. I really enjoyed it.
Also try The Cobbler, Adam Sandler in a different sort of role.
You might have to search for them but they are still available.

I have just watched Dirty John - it was riveting and so scary.

I've been binge watching Schtisel. Absolutely love it.

Watched ‘On Chesil Beach’, not sure about it. I suppose that’s what it was like for some young marrieds in the 60s. I wanted to shake them!
I gave up on the book, but will have another go.

Currently watching "one of us" and enjoying it.

I would also recommend Their Finest, an enjoyable film in the British tradition.

I must get Netflix.

Just to add, Swimming with Men is based upon the true story of a group of middle aged Swedish men who formed a synchronised swimming team.
On another thread someone recommended Dumplin'. Dolly Parton music throughout. I watched it, enjoyed it and would like to say thank you to whoever suggested it.

I will earmark Schtisel for tonight.

Started Dirty John but just couldn’t get into it.

merlot, glad you found Schtisel, I loved it. I loved the music too. My favourite character is the school secretary.
