Am I alone in thinking the sex scene in this first episode was a tad over the top.
I had already decided that I wouldn't bother watching again and then wham bang in your face.

Watched the final episode, rather enjoyed this drama.

sylviemc Thu 11-Apr-19 21:01:36

got to penultimate episode after going hot and cold with it all through but tend to watch to end if i start something like i nearly always finish a book - and so far there have been good parts and poor parts - very mixed rather cliched and characters lacking in depth in spite of injections of backstory to show how they became like that. Will watch the last one just to see how it ends but overall not a recommendation from me either - I had hoped for better from the two main actors also

Watching the first episode I thought this was rubbish and didn't like the sexual scene/language.
DH stayed with it and by default so did I.

I'm so glad that I did so. It is all coming together.

Glad I stuck to watching this....you can now see why the male side of the family are like they are.....enjoying it a lot....

Can anyone explain the murder scene and press interview at the beginning of the third episode ? What was the point of it ? The summary in the Times said the father's enemies were beginning to circle sensing his media empire was beginning to crumble ??? I did not get that from this episode either . I checked the listing as felt we must have missed an episode but we have not . Still enjoying it though.

Yes. I think having the stroke is somehow going to turn him into a better person. He was a right prat to begin with.

Shirleyw Fri 22-Mar-19 16:48:17

Its OK, i think the acting is good, particularly with the son....i'm glad i got to episode 3, ...its slotting into place....I can see why they put the sex/language scene with the son in episode 1....i shall stick to the end with this one

Greyduster Fri 22-Mar-19 14:02:27

I am beginning to hate it. The sex scene at the beginning and the bad language all through are gratuitous, I’ve never been that struck on Richard Gere, and its only saving grace is Helen McRory.

TwiceAsNice Fri 22-Mar-19 12:32:48

Missed the sex scene. Thought the first episode was so boring/ acting so wooden I stopped watching. Disappointed in Richard Gere it was awful

Gonegirl Fri 22-Mar-19 12:24:57

I'm getting more into it now.

Irishlady Fri 22-Mar-19 12:23:14

When it was advertised it looked promising, but, it didn't live up to that promise. I stayed with it until about 15 minutes into episode 3 and just gave up. Poor lighting, mumbled speech and I couldn't really follow the plot (if there was one). I think Richard Gere had his moment of fame with Pretty Woman, and that was more because of Julia Roberts acting and the white uniform he wore.

Not sure what I was expecting with this series but it certainly took me by surprise. I recorded it so I was actually ironing when I watched, nearly scorched a shirt at one point.
It's one of those programmes you have to watch to see what other gratuitous effect they can think of. The premise is an interesting one but all in all too pretentious I thought too.

lemongrove Sun 10-Mar-19 17:16:35

Is the ‘c’ word codswallop??

trisher Sun 10-Mar-19 17:12:43

It was so Boring!!! There seemed to be something the matter with the lighting, the characters were unbelievable and the dialogue very odd. Whatever it was trying to do it failed miserably.

Eloethan Sat 09-Mar-19 00:07:40

I think it was trying to be "arty"but was, in my opinion, really pretentious. The dialogue was so unnatural. I don't think I'll watch it again either.

Lily65 Fri 08-Mar-19 21:01:14

It reminded me of McMafia, all style and no emotional connection.

oldgimmer1 Fri 08-Mar-19 10:06:38

I found it strangely compelling but haven't a clue what's going on. I thought the sex scene was gratuitous too..didn't add anything imho.

Not sure I'll carry on watching.

Sparklefizz Fri 08-Mar-19 08:04:12

I watched it because of Richard Gere but I didn't like his character or his son's character and didn't bother to watch the episode until the end. It was too dreary and won't be watching again.

Gonegirl I didn't understand the bathroom scene either. All I could think of was that the overflowing bath would take down the ceiling!

And I don't like watching abusive sex, so that was that.

LullyDully Fri 08-Mar-19 08:01:34

Dreadful codswallop so far . The newspaper critic agreed but said she watched episode 2 and it was much better. May give it another go, but I doubt it.

Ohmother Thu 07-Mar-19 21:45:41

I was watching it until the scene where they started to use the ‘c’ word. I refuse to watch any more as I thought it was disgusting. I went off to read instead. It’s lost this viewer.

Lollin Thu 07-Mar-19 21:21:41

I read a review as wondered if it might be good and thought no won't bother watch it now. Sex sells they say but i find it seems to be on the tick list to get viewers and adds very little of real value anymore.

BlueBelle Thu 07-Mar-19 21:19:47

I started it and didn’t get into it so switched off

Gonegirl Thu 07-Mar-19 20:37:43

Don't understand what the bath scene was all about. Must have flooded the bathroom, and got her dressing gown wet.

Gonegirl Thu 07-Mar-19 20:31:31

The rest of it was good.
