BBC2 Wednesday 10.00.

I love it

J52 Fri 17-May-19 10:19:36

I have binged watched series three. No spoilers, but clever insights at the end.
A shame it’s gone, but unlike many series, it went on a high.

BlueBelle Fri 17-May-19 09:54:52

Oh whoops sorry just realised it’s in the original post BBC 2

BlueBelle Fri 17-May-19 09:52:55

I ve never heard of it what side is it on ?

Kandinsky Fri 17-May-19 09:16:39

Oh Juliette.
That’s very sad. sad

Juliette Fri 17-May-19 08:34:21

I just wish that someone loved me as much as Michael loves Kathy.

Kandinsky Fri 17-May-19 08:09:09

I love the sister in law, she’s a younger, harder, Hyacinth grin
It’s the sons girlfriend I find a bit unbelievable - is anyone really that dopey?

LullyDully Fri 17-May-19 08:05:39

I enjoy Mum; it is like watching paint dry. The characters are well defined yet annoying. I wouldn't want to spoil it by watching the box set. It is strangely compelling. Mr LD watched it but not sure he got it as he hadn't watched it before.

I watched the whole of series 3 last evening on Iplayer, no spoilers.
I found the whole lot needed a kick up the ... to get moving but still couldn't stop watching.

Drum1234 Fri 17-May-19 07:02:43

Please, no spoilers from those who binge watch thissmile

AyjayF Fri 17-May-19 06:53:34

Trying to resist watching series 3 too quickly.

kittylester Fri 17-May-19 06:24:46

I couldn't watch all episodes at once - it is over far too quickly.

I loved last nights episode but I was shocked by how quickly it was over.

The BBC is brilliant at the these gentle comedies. I loved The Cafe and the Detectorists.

I love Mum. Brilliant programme and just very different. The only character I don't find quite so believeable is the sister-in-law because she seems rather over the top, but that's a minor quibble.

Really admire Lesley Manville.

Pittcity Thu 16-May-19 23:22:59

I've just finished it Lisa.....it just got better and better.

Lisagran Thu 16-May-19 22:06:25

Anyone watched any / all of Series 3? Haven’t felt too well today so ended up binge watching it, in bed!

Pittcity Thu 16-May-19 14:48:10

The whole 3rd series is on iPlayer.

kittylester Wed 15-May-19 06:46:54

I think Lisa McGrillis is a good actress. It took me ages to work out that she had also been in George Gently.

Treebee….Yes Kelly is hilarious! I bet you were just watching and waiting for that milk to fall, I know I was! She's so thoughtless and childishly kind at the same time.

jacq10......Tyrannosaur was one of the films I liked him in.

Treebee Tue 14-May-19 19:47:53

Looking forward to series three. I too have just rewatched the first two, and agree with a lot of these comments.
How Mum doesn’t fly off the handle at Kelly? son’s girlfriend, I don’t know. Just watched the episode where she knocked the milk off the kitchen counter and just laughed and didn’t help ‘Mum’ clear it up.
I admire her forbearance though, and just hope she and Michael get together. From the reviews it looks like they will.

jacq10 Tue 14-May-19 19:17:11

Thanks Namsnanny for your comments - total agree especially re Peter Mullan. He is a fine actor. I first saw him, I think, in a film called "On a clear day" some time ago. As you say he usually plays a "hard man" (think he was in Taggart) so it's been a joy to see him do "Mum". I do find it quite moving.

travelsafar Tue 14-May-19 19:00:55

I have started watching on the strength of these reviews. Some of the characters are not very nice or just plain annoying but i am hooked as i want to see what happens in the end. smile

nanaK54 Tue 14-May-19 15:54:31

Well I might have had something in my eye when Cathy hugged Michael in the garden........

Namsnanny Tue 14-May-19 15:25:12

Oh Kandinsky...Where you see creepy I see reserve. It’s all about patience and courage for the Michael character. He’s spent all his adult life hiding his feelings for Kathy, then he has to find the courage to reveal them!
Peter Mullen conveys his feelings with facial movements so well Imv.
I had only watched him play hardened characters before, this is such a departure!

NanaK....so glad you like it too, maybe you can tel which bits you like best.
As I said I always get tearful at the struggle Kathy and Michael go through to get together!
Ha! I’m a nitwit I know?

nanaK54 Tue 14-May-19 14:51:48

I have 'binge'watched the first two series on the strength of this thread and I am hooked smile

Urmstongran Tue 14-May-19 10:58:55

Yes Ayjay the only bit I didn’t like (thought bit pretentious to be honest) was when she referred to herself a few times in the third person - as in ‘Lesley thinks...’. A bit weird.

Kandinsky Tue 14-May-19 10:58:19

The best character is Pauline by far.
