Thank you for this thread. It encouraged me to do a bit of googling and I have enjoyed reading about this talented artist. I However, I was also amused by the picture (link above) that shows the young family with the Norland nanny employed when mum Charlotte was hospitalised. Boris seems to have quite a lascivious look in his face...he started young! Also surprised in the article which stated the nanny sometimes took baths with the children. I don’t think that would be approved of by the Norland institution.

She has also campaigned for more support for those with Parkinson's since they lost their specialist nurse in 2017 - the one they had was not replaced by their local CCG.

According to your link to the interesting article, MawBroon, her DIL writes for the Guardian - they are a politically diverse family who still manage to be very close.

Thank you Pittcity, I thought she had died. I’m pleased to hear she’s still with us, whatever her politics I’m sure she will be a proud mum, but it must be hurtful to her to hear some of the things people say about her son.
She certainly is very talented, and despite the views of some people re Boris, she has produced clever and talented children (not just talking about Boris. )

Elaine1 the other children seem quite sensible and measured in what they say.. Unfortunatley Boris seems to take after Stanley.

The docu is called "Painting the Johnsons". If you can watch it it's really good.Some of the paintings very much reflect the 70s. Her story is incredible- 4 children, she spent months in a mental hospital because of OCD, lost her second husband to cancer and was diagnosed with Parkinson's at 40. Mind you she was lucky that they could afford to send the children to public schools.

Boris did a brilliant self portrait at 12 years old: brilliant.

She has been quoted as saying she has never voted Conservative and was amused that her right-leaning sons married left wingers. She has an amazing talent.

She is still alive Maddy, but divorced Stanley in 1979.

She has certainly caught Boris, as a young man, in this wonderful portrait. How sad that she developed Parkinsons at a young age. Whatever we all may think of the news today about Boris, I think she would have been a very proud mum. She was clearly a very talented woman.

I think the whole family are quite intellectual but eccentric.
