Is anyone else watching this? A funny, touching inoffensive comedy in a great Northern tradition. Great to see Stephanie Cole again. Lots of strong quirky Northern women. Love the views of Scarborough, it's a place I love. We went there for holidays when I was little.

I liked this as soon as I started to watch it. Not quite sure why though. Maybe because the actors are all vaguely familiar. Most likely because it's a comedy drama rather than an attempt at a sitcom. Recent BBC sitcoms have been dire.
It could do with being longer than half an hour though. It's well enough written for that.

We laughed out loud at the estate agent scene, Calendargirl, and that doesn't happen often these days!

blondenana Sun 06-Oct-19 12:08:01

I will try to find out what is being filmed in Bridlington smile

Oh, I love this. Isn't Ollerenshaw a grand Lancashire name!

I enjoyed the Syndicate and Ordinary Lies. Love this style of TV.

Just watched the final episode of Scarborough. Do hope they bring it back for a second series. Gentle, humorous but also quite poignant with genuine characters. The half hour goes very quickly.

I've found out it's Last Tango in Halifax which is being filmed in Brid - a friend was down on the sea front a couple of weeks ago and saw all the film crews and actors.

Surely that wasn’t the last episode last night it’s only just started!

Whitewavemark2 Sat 12-Oct-19 20:22:04

I love these gentle comedies.

So pleased to hear that Last Tango is doing another series.

Jane10 Sat 12-Oct-19 21:03:45

What a shame the series is over. It was such good viewing. Characters that you cared about. A warmth to it as well as the gentle comedy. I somehow felt the ghost of Victoria Wood was hovering (if you know what I mean!) - the northernness of it I suppose.
Bring on series 2 and less of that Fleabag nonsense!

grapefruitpip Sat 12-Oct-19 21:36:06

Fleabag was porn for the middle classes.

blondenana Sat 12-Oct-19 21:55:09

Willow thanks for letting us know it is Last Tango in Halifax which is being filmed in Bridlington i forgot to check
I should have remembered as Halifax is also where i am originally from
I believe a second series will be filmed, of Scarborough, i hope so it was a strange ending, but 30 minutes is not long enough

Just caught up with this, thanks Trisher, really loved it. Glad to know Last Tango is coming back.

DanniRae Sun 13-Oct-19 10:13:04

Enjoying Scarborough. So glad Last Tango in Halifax is coming back. Our daughter suggested that we watch The Detectorists and after 2 episodes we are liking it.
But didn't like Fleabag - after finding it quite shocking!

Pudding123 Sun 13-Oct-19 10:26:11

I haven't watched any of Scarborough yet but after reading these recommendations will give it a go.I absolutely loved Detectorists and the lovely banter between Mortimer and Whitehouse in their fishing programme a few weeks ago,I am looking forward to Last Tango in Halifax coming back every episode was a gem.

Jane10 Sun 13-Oct-19 11:03:24

You're in for a treat Pudding123!

annsixty Sun 13-Oct-19 12:02:53

I hope we don't have to wait too long for Series 2, we were left hanging somewhat.

Pudding123 Sun 13-Oct-19 15:44:01

I hope the next season is soon - love it!

annep1 Sun 13-Oct-19 22:44:11

Enjoyed Fleabag but not the stage show. Vulgar in parts.

kittylester Mon 14-Oct-19 08:57:06

We were thrilled to see Danny Wild and his Wildettes in last night's episode.

We had never seen them before but our daughters loved to go to see them when DD1 lived in Scarborough and even went a few times after she moved.

grapefruitpip Mon 14-Oct-19 09:04:38

I watched about the first 2 minutes of Fleabag where she is musing on anal sex. Absolutely vile.

Regarding Scarborough, some lovely observations and performances. Lisa Marie and her sister were spot on.

annep1 Mon 14-Oct-19 19:51:34

I don't remember that Grapefruitpip. Perhaps on tv I was able to ignore those bits. But not watching an NT broadcast in a packed cinema.

NanKate Thu 24-Oct-19 07:58:37

Loved Scarborough on the recommendation of GN members thanks.

I gave Fleabag a miss as I too Grapefruit as I hate the lowering of standards in some modern comedy and I am far from being stuffy.
