DGS (a bit younger) loves the Percy Jackson books and I see they have been turned into films, available on DVD.

Spy Kids (I enjoyed that one but watched with a granddaughter)
Aquaman (I didn't like it but the boys did!)

Has he seen The Goonies? Brilliant, my two always loved it. Perfect for that age, I should think.
