Yes, I did get that, Calendargirl
Halloween has hit the shops already!
What’s a household item that reminds you of your grandma’s house?
Did anyone watch this "A Berry Royal Christmas" last night? I thought it was delightful. Great to learn more about the charity work William and Kate do, and they are such a happy couple, clearly have a lot of fun together and are good sports (and don't need to be clutching hold of each other to prove anything!)
Kate seems fine face-to-face but still seems a bit shy about giving speeches and I find that rather endearing.
Yes, I did get that, Calendargirl
I, for one, have been very pleased to have a break from the Sussexes
Does anyone actually miss them?
If you do, they've shared another inspiring quote highlighting the importance of caring so it's nice to know they're taking a break from their lengthy holiday to remind us.

Re the homeless comment. I suppose they, Mary and William, were going to the homeless place that he supports, so he was saying how he explains to George about homeless people on the street, to tie it all up. I expect Diana talked to her sons about it in a similar way. They probably do want their children to grow up knowing they lead a privileged life, and others are not so fortunate.
Mmm, I noticed that merlot re the homeless.
Margaux 'clutching hold' of each other.
Actually, if that comparison makes other posters think of the Sussexes, that is their own interpretation because I would have directly mentioned the Sussexes if I'd wanted to. I, for one, have been very pleased to have a break from the Sussexes during their 6-week holiday, so definitely would not choose to bring them up. I was just casting around for some sort of comparison to emphasise that William and Kate show their love for each other without it having to be physically demonstrative. No mention of the Sussexes .... sorry to disappoint.
The only part of it that made me cringe was William telling Mary that when they're on the school run and see people sleeping on the streets he points it out to his children and they talk about it
He may have the best of intentions but that little insight might have been best left unsaid.

I do agree about all the deference stuff .
But I'm still curious. I will watch.
The RF PR machine is working hard this year!
OOooops wrong Mary ...

Are you sure you've got the right Mary ananimous? Queen of Shops was Mary Portas.
Sparklefizz,
Sorry if you feel I hijacked your post by mentioning Andrew -though I see that someone else mentioned the 'York girls'. ?
I have to say though that I rather agree with HM999 - you went beyond the 'feel good' Cambridges and Mary Berry in your implied comparison with those 'clutching hold' of each other. Or at least that's how very many posters have interpreted this as a reference to the Sussexes.
As I say, apologies to you if apologies are due - Merry Xmas and a peaceful New Year 2020.
Not seen it but thought Mary was great in "Queen of shops"
Hm999 I didn't mention Prince Andrew - I don't know what you're talking about.
Sorry Sparklefizz, but you started it! Your OP mentioned clutching hold of each other. The Cambridges have been married 7 years, the Sussexes 18 months. Personally I find the Sussexes' protection of each other endearing (particularly given how much grief certain sections of the public give them), and the hand-holding quite sweet.
Oh I forgot all about this last night - and Only Connect! - so I will watch it on catch up as soon as possible. Sounds fab ?
@pippa22 yes, put it in! too funny
Well Tigertooth and Sparklefizz, thank you for commenting. I am glad I am not alone.
But this is what I find so sad - the way 'Hapless Andy' has been judged. And as I don't know much more than anyone else, I hope I may be allowed to attach a clip you may find of interest.

Kate's not anorexic looking. She is very blessed with a narrow skeleton, long waist, and also tall, so she naturally looks willowy. And the poor York girls will never look slender no matter how hard they diet or work out as they are very short-waisted.
Interesting that people say that Kate looks anorexic because she is so slim (also so is her sister, Pippa), but no one calls Mary Berry anorexic, who is also very slim.
Tigertooth - the thing with Prince Andrew is that ihis behaviour is not "decades ago" as you suggest ..... it is much more recent than Bill Whyman with Mandy Smith which was, if I remember, in the 60's/70s when Andrew was just a child.
I am not condoning any of it, especially not Mandy Smith aged 14, but her mother was pushing that relationship, and taking her to nightclubs.
Meanwhile, my new thread was supposed to be about a lovely warm feel-good TV programme last night showing the Cambridges and Mary Berry.
I liked Catherine’s blue dress. I wonder if she has always spoken as she does now, sounds posh, but I have the impression she is always worrying of how she talks and comes across. I bet she sounds more natural when she and William are on their own with the children.
Mary Berry used to seem a bit stuck up when you saw her on cookery programmes years ago. I think the sad death of her son obviously had a huge impact on her, and she seems very caring and empathetic nowadays.
Prince Andrew - I’m sure he had sex with lots of girls without asking their ages, if they are at an adult and drinking etc...one might presume. Also, this is during the eye of Mandy Smith, at 14yrs old being collected from school by her rolling stone boyfriend and nobody batted an eyelid.
We can’t judge behaviour of decades ago on social norms of today. Sooner or later someone will want want to sue a headmaster because he got the cane in 1972! We can’t do that. Times change.
HOWEVER - After Prince Andrew knew about the paedophile conviction of Epstein he should have cut him out of his life - and he didn’t, so no sympathy here.
Why has this nice post turned, albeit subtly, into Megan bashing
Well - they are the two women who married the only two young princes so I think comparison is natural - and Kate is just a personality that is easier to warm to.
It was a lovely programme.
thank goodness these two will be our future royal king and queen,
I enjoyed it very much, what a lovely couple ?
Don’t generally watch Royals or Mary Berry but I really enjoyed this feel good program. Thought MB was amazing and so slim! Catherine seems so warm and friendly and looks amazing. Why do we always say people look anorexic when they are just slim. Have we got so used to larger people? William was just so natural too. And a huge well done to all the volunteers. Where would we be without them? Lovely programme
Granny Laine,
This programme - which I very much enjoyed- was in large part about the charitable work performed by two members of the Royal Family.
It seems to me to be in stark contrast to the way another member of the firm has been treated - with a great deal of criticism about his lifestyle but nothing at all about the good work he has done for the state.
