Did anyone watch this "A Berry Royal Christmas" last night? I thought it was delightful. Great to learn more about the charity work William and Kate do, and they are such a happy couple, clearly have a lot of fun together and are good sports (and don't need to be clutching hold of each other to prove anything!)

Kate seems fine face-to-face but still seems a bit shy about giving speeches and I find that rather endearing.

Can't be doing with all the Royal worshipping, but I think that if the Cambridges were just neighbours I would probably like them.
Why do people so enjoy a bit of 'Meghan bashing'?
The poor lass hasn't done anything wrong or upsetting, but I daresay her rather overwhelming 'Look at ME ' behaviour has been off-putting.
Diana was the same, but much more skilled at the art, with the soulful eyes and the shy demeanour, she gained people's sympathy.
Poor old Meghan is also American, which of course is unforgiveable!

Calendargirl, you are right about the nail-polish making old hands look older. My daughter goes one further - she says Mary’s look like ‘dead man’s fingers’.

Anniebach Thu 19-Dec-19 10:28:57

I worked in the kitchen of a convent, the supervisor would not
allow nail polish, hair not covered, perfume, not the same aprons for cleaning vegetables and baking.

I don't think Mary Berry's false nails are very hygienic when she has her hands in the mixture.

When we did Domestic Science at school, we were taught not to wear nail polish when making pastry (or whatever). One of Mary's nails could come off - not a pleasant thought.

Aepgirl

Yes,I agree with you about Mary’s fingernails. She has said they are gel ones, but I think they look ‘wrong’ when she is baking. My personal feeling is that they make an elderly person’s hands look older somehow.
Am sure plenty will disagree though!

Thanks anna7 and grannyknot. May try it for visitors on the 27 th.

I made the Warming Beef Stew tonight! It was delicious. Waitrose had celeriac and there were three of us rooting around for a good one - all for the same reason! I couldn't taste the ginger.

anna7 Wed 18-Dec-19 19:52:10

Just finished eating the beef stew and it was lovely. Definitely something I will make again. It was quite gingery but I liked it. Some might like to reduce the ginger slightly. I didn't put any celeriac in (I didn't have any) It was fine in the slow cooker. I do like a recipe I can cook in the slow cooker. I hope you enjoy it if you try it mumofmadboys.

Predictive text can be a nuisance Callistemon.
I'm using my phone so it's just pressing wrong keys. I have predictive text turned off.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 18-Dec-19 18:38:53

Calendargirl you could add less ginger in or omit it all together.

Calendargirl Wed 18-Dec-19 18:34:55

Was it very gingery, as I’m not keen on ginger?

Harris27 Wed 18-Dec-19 18:24:10

Loved it want more feel good Mary Berry!

mumofmadboys Wed 18-Dec-19 18:20:35

Please Anna7 can you give us feedback on the beef and ginger casserole. Sounds lovely.

Callistemon Wed 18-Dec-19 17:54:42

It's quite a relief to see the typos annep
Since I had a new tablet my posts are full of typos or what it thinks I should be saying.

anna7 Wed 18-Dec-19 16:16:10

I have the beef casserole bubbling away in my slow cooker at the moment. We will have it for tea when my husband gets home. It seems to be turning out very well , fingers crossed.

annep1 Wed 18-Dec-19 15:15:52

Sorry just noticed typos . was rushing.

Charleygirl5 Wed 18-Dec-19 14:24:15

I also enjoyed the programme and I have saved the programme because I also want the recipe for the beef and ginger casserole.

Aepgirl Wed 18-Dec-19 13:57:10

Thoroughly enjoyed this programme. Kate and William are so natural and relaxed. And I’m making Mary’s beef and ginger casserole tomorrow.

However, am I the only one who finds Mary Berry’s finger nails spooky?

annep1 Wed 18-Dec-19 11:07:05

It's not awful holding hands and showing affection but not for the RF when making public appearances. We expect them to look digjified and confident, not clinging to eacb other for moral support, or to reinforce how close they are. Kate and William do it well.

Calendargirl Wed 18-Dec-19 10:22:11

Yes Blinko. Pretty sure the stages merge into a first meet up often nowadays. Glad it was the more innocent early 70’s when we were courting, even though we thought we were quite risqué compared to previous generations!

Blinko Wed 18-Dec-19 10:15:56

Courting, going steady, dating, seeing someone. Though I reckon seeing someone means seeing rather more of them than it did in our younger days...IYCWIM grin

Callistemon Wed 18-Dec-19 09:51:40

He always grabs my hand if we're crossing a road too, although I've been doing that on my own since I started school about 68 years ago.

Calendargirl Wed 18-Dec-19 09:50:13

My husband and I very rarely hold hands. I tend to take his arm when we are walking. Somehow hand holding seems more what we did when courting, (does anyone ‘court’ nowadays?) and when we were ‘going steady’ (do they still do that also?), it didn’t seem necessary to show the world we were together.
Of course, this is nearly 50 years ago!

Callistemon Wed 18-Dec-19 09:50:02

*ananimous, thanks for the iced cake.
You (or Mary) are welcome to come and ice mine!

Calendargirl!! Neither of us has dementia although we are both rather forgetful.
I have wobbly feet.
