A Christmas Carol

I enjoyed it but I love Guy Pearce, think he's a brilliant actor. It certainly is a divisive drama, but it certainly has everyone talking about Charles Dickens. Im looking forward to tonights, but I agree definitely not for children.

The swearing doesn't really bother me, it's only the occasional word, not like some who seem to use it as punctuation. Surely even delicate flowers can sort of overlook, or "tune out" that, rather than clutch their pearls in horror?

Ok, if you found it slow, or boring, but to dismiss it on account of the odd swear word seems a bit much.

I don’t fancy it so didn’t tune in.

I was watching the Chateau Christmas---which was lovely.

I enjoyed it. Hoping it is on catch up as I won't see episode 2 tonight as doing something. It's different to the other versions, of course, but still quite good, though I agree about the F word!

I'm with grannyrebel7,found it slow, didn't like the swearing, give me the '51 version with Alastair Som any day.

It was SO slow.

Loved it. Turned off the bright lights, lit a few candles and snuggled up with a blanket and a glass of port to watch it. Creepy, atmospheric and a little bit funny in places. Looking forward to more tonight.

I didn't like it from the outset with that boy peeing on Marley's grave. I thought it was very slow and the characters all wrong. Don't expect Dicken's work to contain the f word either. Like Grandma/70 I fell asleep too. Won't be watching any more episodes. I like my classics to be traditional!

I watched it as DH had it on. I reserve judgement until the next episode.

We loved it- nice to have a traditional Christmas ghost story.

I thought it committed the sin of being just plain boring. The casting wasn’t good. Poor old Dickens. I went to sleep.

Really enjoyed the Christmas episode of The Good Life!

I started watching it, but thought it was rather depressing, so turned over for a programme about how The Good Life was made. Have seen it before, but it made me laugh.
Had just watched the film The Queen, mostly about the death of Diana of course, and felt I wanted to go to bed on something a bit light.

I think the first episode was setting the scene for 'darker' things to come!!!!

I think this version is like Marmite!
I loved it but had to turn on the subtitles as there was a lot of mumbling.

I forgot to record it so will try it on catchup.
I so enjoyed Paddington, the child in me I suppose.

Not all of us. I didn’t enjoy it at all. Turnoff half way through.

Are they? Perhaps they should stick to Paddington then ...though I enjoyed that too.

Obviously I know the plot, but in spite of that I was in a state of high tension through much of this. It's a very dramatic re-working of the story.

I'm very curious to find out about Mrs Cratchett and the letter to America; it'll probably be something quite dark.

Strangely enough, we oldies are embracing this version much more enthusiastically than our younger sisters - MumsNet posters are in high dudgeon!

Exactly.I was hoping the grandchildren would watch it to divert them from their technology but am glad they didn't.

Not for the children though!
