Loved this program last night. Full of all the usual craziness and a few tear jerking moments. Hope there will be a new series, surely they can not leave us.... hanging!!! smile

You will enjoy catching up Katiel. James Corden and Ruth Jones have created some Wonderful characters and cast them perfectly.

I watched this with my hubby and we loved it! Never seen any of the others! It didn't matter. Will need to watch all the old ones to fill in.

Jane43 Sun 05-Jan-20 16:17:13

I think I liked it because it was like meeting up with old friends. I too loved Smithy and Nessa and Pam and Mike are always brilliant too.

Regarding being uneasy about the use of serial killers’ names I can see that it might upset some people but I am a fan of black humour such as in the Coen Brothers’ films

katie1 Sun 05-Jan-20 14:11:02

I absolutely loved it !

Daisymae Sun 05-Jan-20 13:23:31

I thought that it had lost some of its spark. Or maybe I have!

DanniRae Sun 05-Jan-20 13:17:13

We all really enjoyed it.grin
I hope someone responsible for new tv programmes will realise that the success of this Christmas special indicates that we need more programmes like this!!
Not dramas full of nasty, creepy stuff or crude stuff full of nudity and dreadful language- programmes we can all watch without fear of something mortifying cropping up!!

sodapop Sun 05-Jan-20 12:57:05

I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would Poppyred it seemed a bit contrived somehow. Still better than some of the silly game shows on over the holiday period.

SirChenjin Sun 05-Jan-20 12:48:53

Vaguely Juliet - my menopausal brain is so addled I struggle to remember what I had for breakfast these days!

The fishing trip incident shall remain a mystery forever I think...

annsixty Sun 05-Jan-20 12:42:25

And we still don’t know what happened on the fishing trip.

Juliet27 Sun 05-Jan-20 12:33:24

Ah yes...wasn’t the Christmas episode. As I’d watched all the first series in one go, I got muddled. Smithy woke up wearing Nessa’s red thong....remember it now Sir Ch?

SirChenjin Sun 05-Jan-20 12:25:50

I sort of wish I hadn’t asked now gringrin

Nico97 Sun 05-Jan-20 12:06:24

The loo brush incident was in the first episode when Smithy met Nessa and they shared a hotel room with Gavin and Stacey. Smithy and Nessa moved into the bathroom where the use of the loo brush played a part in their "happenings" grin

SirChenjin Sun 05-Jan-20 11:57:59

What was the loo brush incident?!! I can’t for the life of me remember that!

Juliet27 Sun 05-Jan-20 11:28:56

I’d never watched any of it before so this week watched all of the first series. I found it very funny but it’s certainly near the mark at times isn’t it. Haven’t used my loo brush since without thinking of the Christmas episode!!

SirChenjin Sun 05-Jan-20 11:20:11

Humour is subjective - you’re never going to please 100% of the audience 100% of the time. I loved it and look forward to another series (or special, at the very least).

Poppyred Sun 05-Jan-20 11:15:29

I just thought it a sad state of affairs to be the most watched programme on Christmas t.v....

Surely they can better!!

KatyK Sun 05-Jan-20 10:50:18

No Poppyred I thought it was rubbish too. I hadn't seen it before but watched it because of all the hype. Maybe if I'd watched it before I would have felt differently. Is it supposed to be funny?

MawB Sun 05-Jan-20 10:38:22

I always loved Gavin and Stacey but found the Christmas Special formulaic, and yes, disappointing. Smithy and Nessa were brilliant but the charm 10 years on had worn off for me.
Sometimes illusions and memories are best left where they were - enjoy the box set!

Poppyred Sun 05-Jan-20 10:33:09

Am I the only one who thought it was rubbish??

vinasol Fri 27-Dec-19 11:43:22

It was like seeing old friends again. We loved it.

TerriBull Fri 27-Dec-19 11:07:20

We've had the family here Christmas Day and Boxing Day, we've hardly watched any tv, bar a Jurassic Park film one of my sons put on Christmas Day after dinner which my husband promptly fell asleep in and woke up with a start when a T Rex was getting a bit violent.

All have departed now, so we've got the tv back to ourselves and look forward to catching up with Gavin and Stacey tonight.

Just have to have a moan! I am happily pet-sitting in Spain (thanks for your lovely advice Urmstongran) and paid for subscriptions to ITV hub, All4, and started a free 30 day trial for Britbox. So I got to watch all my favourite ITV soaps, and Channel 4 Christmas specials, but Britbox - which I believed to be BBC run - did NOT show Gavin & Stacey, or Call the Midwife and I am very disappointed! angry sad. I will still enjoy it on catch - up when I get home in January and am not too bothered by spoilers, but feel as if I've seen the whole thing by reading the papers and social media, and now my beloved Gogglebox (Ch. 4) will be showing the families watching Gavin and Stacey next week! Not happy with Britbox. (Sorry for babbling, but I've no one to talk to except the dogs grin)

NannyJan53 Fri 27-Dec-19 09:30:42

Crackin! Watched it last night and loved it! The ending was unexpected though, but thinking about it...……….

annsixty Thu 26-Dec-19 21:25:41

Just watched the recording, loved it.
Nothing to complain about at all.
No-ones character had changed, Uncle Bryn (it means hill in Welsh) was as mixed up as ever and the Shipmans a hoot.

Callistemon Thu 26-Dec-19 19:28:15

That's the only thing I find discomfiting about Gavin and Stacey.
