Fabulous presenter. Marvellous subject. Loved every moment of this programme.

I thought it was a quite incredible and brilliant programme and loved seeing them all going back into the wild. Surprised that they were not given any trackers. Animals in the West that are released back in the wild are given these collars so that they can be monitored

I've recorded the fireworks to watch again because it was so interesting.

Anyone else wonder what size litter tray they must have for the wild cats kept in peoples apartments as pets? I need to watch the last half of the second programme to see what happened. Yes, it did concern me that they were being released into the wild to possibly be captured again [or killed for their fur].

It was wonderful, I have the second part to watch tonight on catch up as I watched Lucy Wosley and her Tudor Fireworks which I highly recommend if you haven't already seen it.

Enjoyed this so much.Gordon Buchanan is a fantastic presenter. No tricks,no gimmicks just a genuine love of nature. And pleased to here he's been honoured.
Dreadful to think how many of these amazing animals are still in captivity, but thank goodness for the amazing work by the conservationist and his family.
Hundreds of years ago I can see why fur was used to keep warm but absolutely no need for it now.And even worse that they are bred in captivity for selfish humans.

Loved it, loved it. Definitely the best thing on over Christmas.
Unfortunately the Russians are still very much into real fur?
It's quiet shocking to see when you go there, particularly in Moscow.
My late mother in law had a real seal skin coat. Different times, thank goodness.

I just avoid wildlife programs now. Seems that no matter how innocuous they start at some point there's something getting eaten alive. In close up.

QUAINTIRENE I oftan think lately that the young believe they invented environmental protest. I like many, joined greenpeace at university and am still a member in my 70s although my active protest days are long gone.

Mommawolf when I was at college, there were trips you could go on to spray the seal pups. Early 1980s I think.

Juliet27 Mon 30-Dec-19 22:34:25

Oh fleur I’m so pleased to hear that. Definitely deserved.

Mommawolf Mon 30-Dec-19 21:05:02

Anyone remember the amazing pictures of greenpeace activists spraying the white coats of the baby seals with coloured dye to make them unusable for fur coats,or the lady who purchased Harrods top sale fur coat took it outside to the waiting publicity and set fire to it? Perhaps I am showing my age now

We were shouting at the screen at one point. If anything had happened to that wee kitten left in the rain I think the great British public would have lynched him!!
I do know that it's supposed to be somehow good for them to manage in the wild but...
I actually think that it's just an intellectual and or commercial excerise trying to rewild domestic lynxes. I'd rather those ones were safely freed and looked after in a large safe enclosure.
Perhaps put the time and money into looking at how best to preserve the lynxes already in the wild? Think about how to stop the fur trade? How to make real fur in fashion clothing be seen as disgusting as it is seen here.

Gordon Buchanan was awarded an MBE in the Queens New Years Honours...
Great they got at least one right!!!

QuaintIrene Mon 30-Dec-19 12:27:10

Juliet..I know embarrassing. But genuinely I haven’t. Off to google now, though ??

Juliet27 Mon 30-Dec-19 12:04:00

Really Q? He’s been my hero for years. Google him with...Wolves, bears, polar bears, and his emotion when the camera shows a tiger.

tanith Mon 30-Dec-19 11:54:08

I loved it but missed the last 20 mins I must of dozed off I’ll catch it later before tonight’s episode.

QuaintIrene Mon 30-Dec-19 11:29:10

tiredoldwoman it is wonderful, isn’t it. BBC2 tonight I think. Looking forward to it. Love cats of all kinds. I like Gordon Buchanan’s style. I hadn’t heard of him before.

pinkquartz Mon 30-Dec-19 11:27:32

I have recorded this to watch later and am glad to hear it is going to be good.
...I bought the DVD of his series with bears....I love his work.
He is my hero as a wildlife cameraman, because his love of the animals really comes across.

tiredoldwoman Mon 30-Dec-19 11:22:10

This programme must be the best thing I've seen over Christmas . Gordon Buchanan is just wonderful , I think the second part is on tonight ?
