Miriam Margoyles dress!

Evening all, good wishes.

Just (while channel hopping before bed) and seen Miriam Margoyles on Graham Norton.

She was wearing the same dress as on The Last Leg, and some other programme that I can't remember.

It's good to not waste money and also not buy stuff you don't really need, but in light of recent threads on "old person" smell, let's hope she's given it a good airing between each wear!

Callistemon Fri 17-Jan-20 20:18:03

pinkquartz it was the cat today.
Honestly. She could have cleared the room. However, she didn't boast about it, she just stalked out.

Yes, I remember she was just as embarrassing with Will i am. He was very good natured about it but it was all cringeworthy. I think that's when she told some story about a young man pleasuring himself up in a tree and she offered to help him out. I'm sure these stories are just an attempt to be outrageous and appear 'cool' at the same time. Which they don't.

SirChenjin Fri 17-Jan-20 13:37:07

Yeah that's right, of course that's what we're all saying - no-one on GN farts hmm

Will i am was very tolerant of her comments along the lines of 'oooh, black people, I don't see many of you'. If she was just plain old Great Aunt Miriam the family would be arguing over whose turn it was to have her for Christmas after she insulted everyone last time she came to stay.

pinkquartz Fri 17-Jan-20 11:12:26

no-one else on GN farts then?

no more funny or embarrassing stories.?

or is it always the dog?

Atqui Fri 17-Jan-20 11:09:47

Well with all that farting , “old people smell” is the least of her worries!

Chestnut Fri 17-Jan-20 10:08:11

I'm surprised they can get anyone to sit on the sofa when she's on! Daniel Radcliffe must be a good sport, he was next to her. It was Will i am last time I believe.

On his Saturday radio show Graham Norton said MM was a regular on his show but they always had to take into consideration who else would be on at the same time.

MissAdventure Tue 14-Jan-20 23:24:23

Oh, and I haven't seen the dress or her knicknocks. smile

MissAdventure Tue 14-Jan-20 23:22:50

I think people who are known for being just a bit too quirky often feel the need to keep upping the ante as they get older.
It gets embarrassing after a while.
In my opinion, of course.

Chestnut Tue 14-Jan-20 23:08:12

Yes Phoenix, I think the dress was the least controversial aspect of her session on Graham's couch!

phoenix Tue 14-Jan-20 19:57:09

Umm, nice to see the conversation "widening" I was just commenting on the fact that I had seen the same dress worn multiple times on recent programmes!

Must have missed the men's hygiene/foreskin bits, probably turned over. blush

But publicly making it a big thing on national TV is incredibly childish and something a teenager would do, not a mature adult. Maybe she wants to attract young fans and thinks the way to do it is with jokes about body functions.

pinkquartz Tue 14-Jan-20 11:34:52

One is quiet the other not grin

For knitting I use Bamboo needles they are lovely and lightweight.

Farting is something my body has discovered since I became older, only really the last couple of years.
I seemed to get through life rarely afflicted until one day bending down to pick up something was the loudest one.
My friends in the room couldn't stop laughing.
I was embarrassed. But I now I see it is part of my body getting older.

Callistemon Tue 14-Jan-20 10:47:49

I don't like it either, so I use wooden ones grin

trisher Tue 14-Jan-20 10:44:27

My dad would have disagreed with you Callistemon he hated the noise of clicking knitting needles.

Callistemon Tue 14-Jan-20 10:38:06

I should have said: About old people being allowed to get away with behaving badly.

Why?

Callistemon Tue 14-Jan-20 10:37:23

I can't say I agree necessarily about old people behaving badly.

It's strange, when I was very young I thought that everyone became nicer in old age but then I realised that grumpy people became more grumpy, rude people ruder and personalities in general became more concentrated.

Callistemon Tue 14-Jan-20 10:34:51

Knitting doesn't impinge on anyone else's sensibilities, trisher whereas farting loudly in public and constantly referring to it does.

I knit quietly (not in a corner) and try to fart quietly too.

trisher Tue 14-Jan-20 10:28:21

Sorry Grannyknot of course you can sit in a corner and knit. Just as MM can fart and say so if she wants. Surely the least we should acheive as we get older is the ability to accept everyone can behave as they want to providing they do not harm others.

Grannyknot Tue 14-Jan-20 07:22:21

What's wrong with sitting in a corner knitting? My feelings are hurt now grin

(MM is awful).

SirChenjin Tue 14-Jan-20 07:14:48

Why not keep quiet about bodily functions when they have no bearing on the conversation?

Unless you’ve seen her in documentaries and watched her on GN and other chat shows you won’t know how contrived her shock factor appears.

pinkquartz Tue 14-Jan-20 00:21:34

Old ladies should just keep quiet about bodily functions

why?

also I like how she dresses.......I hate all the conventions of we should wear suitable clothes for other people to look at.
why not be comfortable? She might dress this way when she is not in costume because it is relaxing.

somewhere on the forum i think there is a thread about Punks back in the day.....well I think we have one here in MM grin and good luck to her.

though I doubt i would ask a man about his foreskin on TV.....

pinkquartz Tue 14-Jan-20 00:16:25

Ok so after reading more of this thread I will say I have not seen the GN show.
I never watch it.

She does sound rather OTT.......and I can see why some people will not like that.
But when I have seen her on the Real Marigold Hotel blah blah I thought she was funny and very warm to the people around her.

I personally would not want to take part in the conversations mentioned in this thread....perhaps she is sliding into a kind of brain thing where all inhibitions are lost?
Maybe she just likes shocking people.
An old age Punk!

Chestnut Mon 13-Jan-20 23:01:06

And a skirt short enough to see up to her knickers Winniewit. Not a sight most of us would want to see.

Winniewit Mon 13-Jan-20 20:15:03

I noticed that as well as wearing the sparkly dress she also had bare legs. Socks and trainers
