Nortsat46 Thankyou!

Kitty told her she had a nice voice. What a witch!

Was this not a serial on the TV ?
If it's the one that I am thinking of, it pops up on various tv channels from time to time - I always had the feeling that the story was unfinished and needed another series.

The person who blackmailed Kitty Lumley was the local telephonist. She was listening in to all the telephone calls, she overheard Kitty and Victor and put 2 and 2 together.

They tracked her down by monitoring who went to the library books, where the blackmail money was being left for collection.

(I hope that all makes sense ?)

travelsafar Yes it is but this is a stand-alone device (see picture) which just sits beside me and is operated by voice commands, just like Alexa.

Nortsat46 You won't spoil it for me because I've finished the series and won't be going back to it.
It's just niggling me that I don't know how that particular story line ended.
So please put me out of my misery ! smile

JackyB No, sadly I didn't make a note of them, I just moved on.

I thought it reflected quite well the problems people faced, except for the language which they made it more modern.

It's supposed to have been very well researched from letters, articles and documents of the time.

I started listening back in 2014 when it started (it mirrored the events of exactly 100 years previously) but I stopped when it got more and more like a soap opera, playing out the stories of those fictitious people rather than being really informative about what it was actually like in WW1. Rather like the Archers doesn't teach you anything about actual farming.

However, I downloaded the podcasts at the ti.e so I may have some of the missing ones. Do you know exactly which dates you are missing?

Is Google Assistant like Alexa????

The programme started in 2014. It ran for the whole of the centenary of WW1, 2014-2018

Yes, I loved Home Front.
Surely I will spoil it for you, if I tell you who is blackmailing Kitty?
I loved the story line about Adeline Lumley and I liked the Wilson family.
I don’t think I will spoil it too much if I tell you that Alice eventually get free from horrible Bill McNade!

I am glad you’re enjoying it. I found it gave an interesting and poignant insight into the War years.

I'm not sure when this Radio 4 serial began but it follows several families during WW1.

There are 617 episodes and I've been glued to them ever since I got my Google Assistant which plays podcasts to me.

Unfortunately, one or two episodes don't play and although I know the BBC technical crew are trying to fix it, I've missed a whole chunk of the story.

Has anyone else listened to it?

If so, who on earth was blackmailing Kitty?
