So... wink

I will never forget:-
Jo Jo Rabbit
Hubby and I went to the movies last year to watch "Jo Jo Rabbit" - As it ended we all stood and began dancing, and snapping our fingers (you have to see the movie to understand) not a dry eye in the house.

Wish I could forget "Erasurehead"

ananimous OHHH myyy gosh!! I saw the title of the thread and thought *erasurehead! oh myy..

I was convinced no one else had seen this movie..lol

It must have been about 35 yrs ago myself and hubby went to little cinema .I seem to think it was in black n white or maybe it started off like that.

Wasnt it about bodies ground up or heads and made into pencils with a rubber on the end...( I can never look at a pencil with rubber on end without thinking about it) cant believe you named that is your film) quite disturbing actually, i've never forgotten about it shock

Silverlady33 - I think you were lucky those boys were there! Most people seem to have been totally traumatised including me. However, if it had been any other film I think I'd have been really annoyed with their behaviour.

I went to see The Exorcist' when I was a teenager. It was a bank holiday and a lovely sunny day. There was a load of lads from the same pub sitting in the same area in the cinema and they were hilarious. When the bed starts jumping up and down one wag shouted 'You can tell that is not a Slumberland' and the whole audience started laughing. When Regan started vomiting / spewing green bile another lad shouted 'Oh look mushy peas!'. Again the whole audience was laughing their heads off. The lads kept making funny comments and it took the terror of the movie away. When we came out of the cinema it was still lovely and sunny and I wasn't the least bit bothered. On the other hand a girlfriend had gone in the evening with her boyfriend to see this film. She was so disturbed she turfed her father out of his bed and slept with her mother for about two weeks with the door open and the landing light on. Her dad had to sleep in her bed.

I agree with icanhandthemback "The Human Centipede." it is just sick and revolting!

Victim with Dirk Bogarde is really good.
And I loved Sceance on a Wet Afternoon.

I used to love those Mike Leigh films (I tend to prefer British ones!) like Meantime and Secrets and Lies. Pretty dated now, I suppose.

And I have a very soft spot for Shaun of the Dead.

I watched a tv film years ago with David Soul (Starsky and Hutch) and James Mason, called Salem’s Lot. I found it really scary, and for ages after when I looked out at the night sky and the moon, I had to close the curtains quickly!
I expect it would seem tame if I watched it nowadays.

The fab Imelda Staunton / Celia Imrie film is called ‘Finding Your Feet’ lovely, heart-warming, poignant, funny, superbly acted film. Definitely a favourite...

Love -

A Wonderful Life (in fact anything with Jimmy Stewart in it)
To Kill A Mockingbird
Little Women (the Winona Ryder version)
Any decent version of Jane Austen’s novels
Love Actually
Schindler’s List (although I can’t bring myself to watch it anymore - just makes me cry)
Rabbit Proof Fence
1917

I absolutely love the film with Imelda Staunton and Celia Imrie where they play sisters thrown together through circumstances. It also has Timothy Spall, Joanna Lumley and a host of other fabulous actors in it. It came out a couple of years ago and is such a fabulous, heart warming film and didn’t seem to get the recognition it deserved. I can never remember the name of the film and shall have to quickly look it up.

Some of my favourites are:
The colour purple
Stella with Bette Midler
The Graduate
Schindler’s list
Didn’t like:
Cats
Mama Mia

Steel magnolias... can’t watch it again.. far too close to home...

Maggiemaybe Fri 14-Feb-20 22:38:26

The Godfather films, Gone With The Wind, It’s A Wonderful Life, High Noon are probably my favourites, but there are many, many more that I’ve enjoyed. I saw Joker and 1917 recently, and thought they were both very powerful.

Films I wish I’d never watched - Taken, Lost in Translation. Those hideous Care Bear ones, though tbh, I slept through most of them anyway.

A boyfriend took me to see 'The Elephant Man' and it has haunted and upset me ever since. I could watch 'Witness' till the cows come home.

Other great films for me are Lion with Dev Patel and The Constant Gardener

Chestnut Fri 14-Feb-20 20:19:42

whiterabbit01 mentioned 'Clockwork Orange' and I agree that it was another of those shocking 1970s movies.
Something happened after the 'cultural revolution' of 1967 and by the 1970s they were making some real groundbreaking scary movies, 'The Exorcist', 'Clockwork Orange' and Straw Dogs' to name a few. I didn't like any of them, either too scary or too violent. I nearly walked out of CO as the rape scene disgusted me so much, but managed to hold out. Another that sickened me was 'Catch 22' because his guts fell out all over the place. I literally thought I was going to vomit, and I still felt nauseous outside in the street afterwards. I suppose it's all pretty tame nowadays.

Buffybee Fri 14-Feb-20 20:04:11

My favourite ever film is Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe.
Others are: The Kite Runner, The Shawshank Redemption, Schindlers's List, The Godfather, Gladiator, Good Will Hunting,
The Color Purple, 12 years a Slave, Psycho, Dances with Wolves,
Last of the Mohecans, The Beach, The Green Mile, The Lion King and Forrest Gump.

Like others I can't watch The Exorcist and Alien.

Please excuse the typo above in my first comment; i.e. 'favorites', I have a very sensitive keyboard and sausage like fingers, so tend to catch more than one key while typing. Didn't see the mistake until i'd posted the above.
